To provide an apparatus and method for efficiently displaying image content, which is sent and received between a server and a client, in a correct direction. An image content providing server stores, as property information, original angle information indicating correct directions of image content as metadata of the image content. The server generates content information including the original angle information and sends the generated content information to a client. This allows the client to understand the correct direction of the image content received from the server, and to obtain and display image data in the correct direction by performing rotation processing in the client device based on the obtained information or to request the server to perform the rotation processing.

The present invention provides an apparatus and method capable of efficiently sending an event corresponding to content to be transmitted from a server to each client. A content providing server assigns a session ID to each client on condition that the server receives an event notification request, which specifies an event URL, from the client and then manages an event notification process on the basis of the event URL and the session ID. When respectively transmitting pieces of content to a plurality of clients, the server determines event information to be transmitted on the basis of each event URL regarding the corresponding piece of content and controls event notification timing for each client on the basis of the corresponding session ID. According to the present configuration, the load of managing data in the event notification process on the server can be reduced and a correct event synchronized with transmission content can be sent to each client.

There are provided an apparatus and method that generate a MAC list that serves as an access control list efficiently without burdening a user. A MAC list registration processing request packet is automatically transmitted by using as a trigger either a power-on process of the power source of a client apparatus connected to a network or an activation process of a specific application, e.g., an execution application for services using a home network. A server performs a registration process by acquiring information such as a MAC address from the received packet in accordance with a state of empty slots in the MAC list. According to this configuration, it is possible to easily and correctly generate the MAC list, which serves as the access control list, without burdening a user.

An apparatus and a method which enable to execute different access controls based on setting modes are realized. A MAC address table in which a manually registered client MAC address and an automatically registered client MAC address are registered in forms to be able to distinguish each other is set. If an access control mode is an automatic registration access control mode, a MAC addresses of an access requesting client is registered until the number of the MAC address reaches a defined limit number of registration: N of the MAC address table, and the access is allowed under the condition of the registration; or if the access control mode is a registered device access control mode, the access is allowed under the condition that the client MAC address is registered in the MAC address table as the manually registered MAC address.
