An upper unit and lower unit are connected by two hinge portions that allow them to move between open and closed positions and to turn around each other. Undercuts are formed on an edge of the upper or lower unit and extensions are formed on the lower or upper unit not provided with undercuts, to mate with the undercuts of the other unit. For the upper unit to turn around the lower unit, the upper unit must first be raised so as not to touch the extensions. Therefore, the present invention prevents scraping damage of surfaces of the upper and lower units.

The invention provides a microphone unit mounting structure wherein the thickness of a body typically of a portable telephone set can be reduced without being restricted by the dimension of the sum of the height of a microphone and the thickness of a microphone connector and a printed circuit board. A first recess is formed in the battery pack and engageable with the movable hook when the battery pack is mounted to the mounting portion. A second recess adjoins the first recess, but is positioned closer to the mounting portion than the first recess. The second recess is engageable with the movable hook when the battery pack moves away from the mounting portion after the first recess has been released from the movable hook.
