An image processing apparatus structured by combining an image reading apparatus and an image formation apparatus with each other enables a user to freely combine these apparatuses without considering the sum of power consumption of the image reading apparatus and power consumption of the image formation apparatus. An image processing apparatus is provided which comprises an image reading section for reading an original document by causing an image reading head of the image reading section to move relative to an original document; an image recording section for recording an image on a recording medium in accordance with an image signal; a power source for supplying power to the image reading section and the image recording section; and a control device for controlling the speed of movement of the image reading head according to an operating state of the image recording section. The image processing apparatus of the invention overcomes problems associated with the use of prior art image forming apparatus, such as multi-function copying machines, that include an image reading section and an image recording section, and which require the use of large-capacity power sources for supporting the electrical loads of various components that may be operating simultaneously within the individual apparatuses.

In an image processing apparatus which performs pseudo-halftone processing of multivalue image data, the multivalue image data are subjected to partial removal processing in accordance with an assigned reduction ratio, and the resultant multivalue data are then subjected to binary-coding processing. In partial removal processing, data of a removed picture element are reflected upon data of adjacent picture elements. Binary-coding processing is performed by referring to binary data of a predetermined region subjected to binary-coding processing. It is thereby possible to obtain an image having excellent gradation and resolution in a short time with a simple configuration of hardware, and to obtain an image not having deterioration of picture quality even in image reduction.
