A comparison decision unit () compares the camera movement amount () with the LiDAR movement amount (), and decides to use the camera movement amount () for a calibration operation when a difference between the camera movement amount () and the LiDAR movement amount () is less than a threshold value.

Conventionally, a method in which pieces of point group information for use in position matching between a white line position detected by an object detection sensor and a white line position on a map are extracted from the white line positions according to a travel environment, has not been taken into account. In the present disclosure, a point group extraction condition is changed according to change in the travel environment so that: a process of position matching that exhibits robustness with respect to change in the travel environment can be realized; and an own position and a white line position existing at a long distance from an own vehicle can be detected with high accuracy.

The present invention provides an image input apparatus into which a three-dimensional image as well as a two-dimensional image can be easily input. This image input apparatus includes an image pick-up unit, a projector unit, and a mover unit. The projector unit projects a predetermined projection light pattern onto an image object, and the image pick-up unit picks up the projection image containing distortions of the projection light pattern. The relative position between the projector unit and the image pick-up unit is fixed. The mover unit moves the image pick-up unit relatively with the projector unit, so that the image pick-up unit can pick up a plurality of projection images at different image pick-up locations.
