A displacement meter that measures displacement of an object includes a calculation circuit which calculates a displacement amount of the object using a cross-correlation function of plural images detected at different timings by a photoelectric conversion element array. The calculation circuit performs a Fourier transform on the images, applies a band-pass filter to the images having undergone the Fourier transform, and calculates the cross-correlation function using the images to which the band-pass filter has been applied. Assuming that a magnification of a light-receiving optical assembly is M, the number of pixels in the photoelectric conversion element array is N, and a pixel pitch is P (um), a low cut-off frequency HPF of the band-pass filter and a high cut-off frequency LPF of the band-pass filter satisfy: 3M/(N×P)≤HPF≤10M/(N×P), 40M/(N×P)≤LPF≤60M/(N×P).

An image processing device includes: a processor; and a memory encoded with instructions executed by the processor, including: imaging pluripotent stem cells with time in a culture process and acquiring a plurality of images, extracting a colony region of the cells from the image, extracting a high luminance region on the basis of a group of pixels with larger luminance values than a standard value from among pixels constituting the image, extracting an extraction target region with relatively high contrast in the colony region on the basis of the colony and high luminance regions, and outputting the extraction target region as an extraction result, wherein as a relationship among the colony, high luminance, and extraction target regions, the colony region is formed, the high luminance region is then formed therein, and the extraction target region is then formed in the high luminance region in the culture process of the cells.

[Solution] Provided is a method for evaluating the taxic behavior of nematodes in response to odor of a test sample, the method including: a) providing a dish in which the test sample is arranged on the bottom surface, and nematodes are arranged in a region or a site of the bottom surface 1 cm to 3 cm away from the test sample; b) observing the arrangement of the nematodes on the bottom surface at 3 to 15 minutes after the later one of the test sample or the nematodes is arranged; and c) evaluating whether the nematodes show attraction behavior or avoidance behavior in response to the test sample, from the arrangement of the nematodes observed, and a dish or a taxic behavior evaluation system suitable for the method.

A measurement apparatus measures an optical characteristic with high robustness and with a simple configuration. A measurement apparatus of the present invention measures optical characteristic of a sample. The measurement apparatus includes an irradiation unit to irradiate the sample with light emitted from a light source and transmitted through an opening member, an imaging unit to detect an image formed by the light irradiated by the irradiation unit and reflected by the sample, and a processing unit to obtain the optical characteristic of the sample on the basis of an output of the imaging unit. The opening member comprises plural openings through which the light emitted from the light source is transmitted, the irradiation unit irradiates the sample with the light transmitted through the plurality of openings, and the imaging unit detects an image formed by the light transmitted through the plurality of openings and reflected by the sample.

A biological specimen observation apparatus whereby observation of a biological specimen can be performed accurately. In macro observation, a biological change region is extracted from a macro image, a micro observation point corresponding to an extracted biological change region is registered, and an object for tracking is identified. In micro observation, it is judged from the micro image whether or not biological change has continued in the biological change region at the micro observation point, and the registered micro observation point is updated on the basis of this judgment result. It is possible to carry out both macro observation for detecting a biological change region and micro observation for observing the progress of growth of a partial minute region where biological change has been exhibited, and to carry out accurate observation of a biological specimen.

A velocimeter configured to detect light modulated by a moving object with a Doppler effect and measure a velocity of the object includes a detector configured to detect the light, and a processor configured to perform binarization of a signal obtained by the detector, and measure a time duration over a predetermined number of pulse intervals in the signal obtained by the binarization to obtain a measurement value of the velocity. The processor is configured to determine the measurement value as an error based on a change in an index relating to the time duration.
