An airbag having an inflator therein and an airbag system equipped with the airbag are provided, the inflator having a harness taken to the outside through a harness through opening, and the airbag having high inflation durability. An airbag has an inflator therein. Three stud bolts project from an inflator holder attached to the inflator. The bottom of the airbag has three bolt insertion holes through which the stud bolts are passed. A harness through opening is provided between adjacent bolt insertion holes, the harness through opening being for taking a harness for passing electric current to the initiator of the inflator out of the airbag. The harness through opening is shaped like a slit, which extends in the direction substantially orthogonal to the line connecting the bolt insertion holes.

Airbag and airbag system

In a hood airbag device for use in a vehicle, left and right bag-expansion openings are formed at the rear end portion of the outer hood panel in a hood width direction, and the deployment positions of corresponding left and right airbags are controlled or restrained by the bag-expansion openings, respectively. Further, the hood-center side ends (L') of the left air bag (L) and the hood-center side ends (R&#x2032;) of the right air bag (R) are adapted to press against each other when they are deployed. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress the airbags from being raised up by a wind pressure or the like and to quickly deploy the airbags over a broad extent.

Hood airbag device for use in a vehicle

In a hood airbag device () for use in a vehicle, an airbag module () is installed in a hood () of the vehicle from below an inner hood panel () and a door () for covering an opening (A) in an outer panel () is mounted thereto independently of the airbag module (). Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the outer hood panel () from being damaged when the airbag module () is installed, and also readily performed a fine adjustment of a dimensional deviation when the door () is mounted, so that the installability of the airbag module () and the door () can be significantly enhanced.

A pedestrian airbag apparatus is provided that has a portion, when inflated, extending along a vehicle body's outer surface so as to spread into the surroundings of a case, and connected to the case by means of a tether, and the occurrence of a deformation such as warpage or the like on an airbag is suppressed, the deformation being due to the tension of the tether. Pedestrian airbag apparatus

An airbag apparatus for pedestrian protection capable of preventing or suppressing deformation of a case in a width-expanding direction when an airbag is expanded, by means of a simple countermeasure, is provided with a case for housing a folded airbag, an inflator for expanding the airbag, a lid that closes an opening of a hood for passing an airbag, and so forth. In the middle of the case in a longitudinal direction, a tie plate serving as a connecting member connecting a front wall portion and a rear wall portion is provided.

Airbag apparatus

An airbag is disclosed, in which at least a part of the inside thereof is partitioned into cells. In one form, an airbag apparatus for a pedestrian includes a case for housing a folded airbag, an inflator for inflating the airbag, and a lid that closes an opening of a hood, the opening allowing the airbag to pass through. The inside of the airbag is partitioned by linear stitched portions and. A gas blowing portion of the inflator is disposed to correspond to the stitched portion.

A pedestrian airbag apparatus in which smooth inflation and deployment of an airbag are achieved without using an inflator having a high output is provided. A vehicle hood airbag device in which an in-hood reinforcement () is arranged in a hood width direction at a rear end portion of an inner hood panel (). The in-hood reinforcement () has longitudinal opposite end portions coupled to left and right hood hinge reinforcements () that are disposed on the respective lateral sides of the inner hood-panel () to increase the rigidity of the inner hood panel (). Further, by fixing the airbag case () to the in-hood reinforcement (), the rigidity of the inner hood panel () is further increased.

An outwardly deploying airbag system can maintain the internal pressure of an airbag for a required period without vainly increasing the maximum internal pressure of the airbag during inflation. When a sensor detects a collision with a pedestrian, an inflator performs a first gas injection step. An airbag is thereby deployed into a final deployment shape. Subsequently, when the internal pressure of the airbag falls to a predetermined pressure because of leakage of gas through vent holes, and a sensor predicts or detects a collision with a pedestrian, the inflator performs a second gas injection step. Consequently, the internal pressure of the airbag remains high for a long period, and the airbag sufficiently absorbs an impact whenever the pedestrian hits the airbag. The pressure and amount of gas injected in the first gas injection step can be made smaller than in related art, and the required airbag strength is reduced.

Outwardly deploying airbag system

An airbag device for pedestrian is structured to inflate plural airbags side by side to suppress the impact to the pedestrian hit by the automobile at the area around the abutment portion between the adjacent airbags. An airbagL inflates to cover left half side of a rear edge portion of a hood, a cowl topand a windshieldfrom the center of the automobile in a width direction, and an airbagR inflates to cover right half side. In the inflation state, the airbagsL andR are brought into abutment around the center of the automobile in the width direction. Recess portionsF andR are formed as cut portions of a front wall portion 8and a rear wall portion 8of an airbag storage casefrom upper edge portions below the abutment portion between the airbagsL andR.

An easily manufacturable airbag and airbag apparatus having such an airbag are provided in which the inflated shape of the airbag is regulated by panels in place of tether belts. The airbag comprises a first panel surrounding a first vacant chamber and a second panel surrounding a second vacant chamber. When manufacturing the airbag, confronting surfaces of panels are placed one on top of the other, and intermediate sections are connected thereto by sewing. Then, peripheral edges are superposed and connected by sewing. Finally, both ends in the extending direction of the peripheral edges are connected together by sewing. The airbag is manufactured by such a procedure. A tether panel is composed by placing confronting surfaces and one on top of the other. A vent port for ensuring communication between vacant chamber and is provided in the tether panel.

Airbag and airbag apparatus

A protecting device is provided for pedestrians that accounts for various conditions of the collision (physical constitution of the pedestrian, the position of collision, the speed of the motor vehicle at the time of collision, etc.). In one form, a first airbag unit for inflating a first airbag to cover a portion of the cowl top upon collision with the pedestrian is provided at the rear part of the bonnet/hood, or in the cowl top. Second airbag units having second airbags for covering A-pillars are provided within the respective A-pillars. When collision with a pedestrian is detected, the first airbag is inflated so as to cover the portion in the vicinity of the cowl top. The second airbags inflate 5 to 30 mSec behind the ignition of a gas generator of the first airbag unit, and cover the A-pillars substantially entirely.

Protecting device for a pedestrian or the like

An externally developed airbag device is provided that reliably deploys along predetermined areas. More particularly, an airbag includes a bag base, which deploys along the lower edge of the windshield, and bag side segments, which deploy while extending upwardly from the right and left sides of the bag base along the exteriors of 'A' pillars. Guide rods vertically extend along the exteriors of the 'A' pillars. Each of the bag side segments has a connecting strap on its top that connects the bag side segment to the guide rod. The connecting straps are movable along the guide rods. The bag side segments are guided along the guide rods by the connecting straps and deploy along the exteriors of the &#x201c;A&#x201d; pillars.

Externally developed airbag device

To inflate an airbag of a protective bag device for a pedestrian and the like as uniformly as possible and to relax the heat resisting property required for the airbag, a gas-generator storage chamber of the airbag is provided at the lower surface thereof. The gas-generator storage chamber houses most of a gas generator. A gas guide member is disposed to surround gas jet ports at the end of the gas generator. Outlets of the gas guide member are arranged above a seaming section in the airbag. In one form, an entry of the gas guide member and an opening of the airbag are firmly bound to the gas generator with a band.
