A developing apparatus using monocomponent developer comprising: monocomponent magnetic toner; a developer carrying body for carrying and transporting the monocomponent magnetic toner; a magnetic field generation unit fixed inside the developer carrying body; a developer supply unit for supplying the developer carrying body with the monocomponent magnetic toner; and a developer trimming member furnished to the developer supply unit for pressed contact with the circumference of the developer carrying body. The developer trimming member is made of a spring material and tipped with a sliding part which contacts the circumference of the developer carrying body slidingly and which is made of a rubber material. A single-component developing apparatus comprising a developer holding member having a peripheral surface, a power supply section applying an AC developing bias voltage to the developer holding member, the AC developing bias voltage having a waveform with predetermined minimum value, maximum value and period, an electrostatic latent image receiving member opposing the developer holding member across a gap having predetermined width, a developer supplying section supplying a developer to the developer holding member, and a developer regulating member forming developer into a thin layer on the peripheral surface of the developer holding member by pressing on the developer holding member. In this arrangement the developer holding member transports the thin layer of developer towards the electrostatic latent image receiving member, and the transported thin layer of developer flies from the developer holding member across the gap to the electrostatic latent image receiving member in accordance with the AC developing bias voltage. Single-component developing apparatus

A developing apparatus is disclosed, comprising a cylindrical developer support member which is provided facing an electrostatic latent image support member and transports developer attached to the surface, a developer controlling member which contacts the round surface of the developer support member under pressure to control the quantity of developer thereon, forming a thin layer of developer, and side seal members which contact the round surface of end portions of the developer support member and face the end portions of the developer controlling member along the axis of the developer support member to prevent leakage of developer, and whose side seal members do not contact the developer controlling member or contact it under a pressure which does not constrain the displacement of the developer controlling member.

An apparatus for detecting and controlling a the exhaustion of toner in a developing unit of an image recording device which forms an electrostatic latent image on a latent image carrier by exposure in response to image signals and develops the electrostatic latent image to a toner image to be recorded. The apparatus includes a detection unit for detecting a presence or absence of toner in the developing unit under a condition that a power of the image recording equipment is turned on and an interlock is released, and a drive unit for driving the developing unit and the toner supplying mechanism for a predetermined period of time when the toner is exhausted as is detected by the detection unit, wherein the detection unit detects again a presence or absence of toner in the developing unit after the drive unit drives the developing unit and the toner supplying mechanism.

Apparatus for detecting and controlling a toner run-out in a developing

A device for developing an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive layer. The developing device comprises a doner roll for supporting a uniform layer of single-component developing material adjacent to the photoconductive layer. The doner roll is disposed as to create a space gap between the photoconductive layer and the doner roll. The doner roll is made of semiconductive material having a specific resistance ranging from 10.sup.6 to 10.sup.12 .OMEGA.cm. An electrical bias potential is applied across the gap, thereby establishing a field for transferring the developing material from the doner roll to the photoconductive layer.
