A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. In the case that the discharge cut-off voltage of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is in the range of 2.5 V to 3.0 V, a part of the non-opposing region adjacent to a boundary between the opposing region and the non-opposing region has an electric potential plateau in the range of &#x2212;0.02 V to +0.02 V relative to a negative electrode potential in the opposing region.

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode including a positive electrode mix layer, a negative electrode including a negative electrode mix layer, and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a nonaqueous solvent. A surface of the negative electrode mix layer is provided with grooves. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains 10 volume percent or more of a fluorinated solvent with respect to the volume of the nonaqueous solvent and has a viscosity (25&#xb0; C.) of 3.50 mPa&#xb7;s or more as measured with a differential pressure viscometer.

The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode contains a positive electrode active material composed of a lithium-containing transition metal oxide having a layered crystal structure. The negative electrode contains a negative electrode active material composed of a Ti-based oxide and an additive composed of fluorinated carbon that reacts with lithium at a more noble potential as compared to the negative electrode active material. In the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention, the battery voltage reaches a discharge cut-off voltage by a potential change in the negative electrode.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and method for manufacturing the same

A laminated battery provided with an electricity-producing element and an outer case. The electricity-producing element contains a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte. The outer case comprises two sheets of laminating film and includes the following: a containing section that contains the electricity-producing element; and a sealing section that is formed around the edge of the containing section by bonding the sheets of laminating film to each other. A negative electrode of a lithium secondary battery has a negative electrode active material including at least one element of silicon and tin. Capacities of the positive electrode and the negative electrode of the lithium secondary battery are set as follows. In a completely charged state of the lithium secondary battery charged by a predetermined charging method, the positive electrode active material and the negative electrode active material are in a first partially charged state, respectively. In a completely discharged state of the lithium secondary battery discharged by a predetermined discharging method, the negative electrode active material is in a second partially charged state.

Disclosed is a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising a positive electrode containing a nickel-containing lithium composite oxide, a negative electrode containing graphite, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The cut-off voltage of charge of this non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is 4.25 to 4.6 V. The negative electrode contains an additive that reacts with lithium at a potential higher than the potential of graphite. The ratio A/B of a positive electrode capacity A based on the weight of the nickel-containing lithium composite oxide and the cut-off voltage of charge relative to a weight B of the graphite contained in a portion of a negative electrode material mixture layer opposing to a positive electrode material mixture layer is 300 to 340 mAh/g, and the irreversible capacity C of the positive electrode and the irreversible capacity D of the negative electrode in the portion opposing to the positive electrode satisfies C&#x2267;D.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery with high capacity and good life characteristics

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has at least negative electrode, a positive electrode, and a separator between the positive electrode and negative electrode. Negative electrode has columnar first negative electrode active materials that are discretely formed on the outer peripheral surface of negative electrode current collector in the winding direction and can reversibly insert and extract lithium ions, and columnar second negative electrode active materials discretely formed on the inner peripheral surface. The positive electrode has positive electrode mixture layers containing a positive electrode active material capable of reversibly inserting and extracting lithium ions, on both surfaces of a positive electrode current collector. The difference between the porosity generated between first negative electrode active materials in negative electrode and that generated between the second negative electrode active materials in winding is set within 1.1%.
