A secondary battery has a progressively degrading SOC that is an SOC at which the battery performance degrades during storage, and is charged and discharged by a controller. An information processor holds a first threshold value set in advance and lower than the progressively degrading SOC of the secondary battery, and a second threshold value set in advance and higher than the progressively degrading SOC, makes the controller continue an operation to charge the secondary battery from the first threshold value to the second threshold value at the time of charging the secondary battery based on the value of the SOC of the secondary battery detected by the controller, and makes the controller continue an operation to discharge the secondary battery from the second threshold value to the first threshold value at the time of discharging the secondary battery based on the value of the SOC of the secondary battery detected by the controller.

The serving node identity represents the current location of the target mobile terminal. If the current location area is within the coverage area of location-based service provided by the client terminal, the location request message is forwarded to a serving node identified by the retrieved serving node identity. A packet repeater is connected between an IEEE-1394 host terminal and a PPP server. The host terminal transmits a PPP packet containing the physical address of an IEEE-1394 device. During a discovery stage of a PPP connection, the packet repeater receives a PPP packet from the terminal, copies the physical address contained in the packet to an entry of a management table, and successively receives packets from the server and copies the physical address of the server and a session identifier respectively contained in the packets to that entry of the table. During a session stage of the connection, the packet repeater receives a PPP packet either from the terminal or the server and determines the destination of the packet according to the physical address of one of the terminal and the server which is set in the table corresponding to a session identifier of the packet.

In a network node attached to a serial bus, a first count value is incremented beginning with the start timing of a child notify signal transmitted from the node to the bus until the end timing of a parent notify signal received by the node from said bus. The first count value represents the turnaround time of signals between the node and a node attached to the remote end of the serial bus. Normally, signals from the serial bus are supplied to a higher layer. Instead of the received bus signal, an idle signal is supplied to the higher layer for an interval beginning with the end timing of a packet transmitted from the higher layer to the bus until the interval corresponds to the turnaround time.

Circuit and method for exchanging signals between network nodes

A network device monitors a signal transmitted to a wireless or optical link and a signal received from the link for detecting a bit-by-bit coincidence between them. In response to the detection of the coincidence, the network device determines that the received signal is a copy of the transmitted signal. The network device further monitors its transition states for detecting a predetermined state which would persist indefinitely during a link failure. When the predetermined state and the copy of the transmitted signal are simultaneously detected, the network device discontinues its predetermined state and enters a normal state.

A signal sending-and-receiving circuit is used for a long-distance port in a node having a state machine within a serial-bus network, wherein a sending section performs scrambling, coding and conversion on signals given from the state machine to produce serial signals which are sent onto a transmission path, while a receiving section performs conversion, de-scrambling and decoding on signals given from the transmission path to produce decoded signals. A control signal is created based on a Data_prefix signal detected from the signals of the state machine, and an Idle signal or a Grant signal detected from the decoded signals. The control signal controls a selector to selectively output either the decoded signals or a pseudo Idle signal which is newly created. Then, a collision signal is created in response to an output of the selector. Thus, it is possible to avoid collision between a grant signal and a Self ID packet, so it is possible to prevent the Self ID packet from being damaged. In addition, the state machine is designed to have six states, namely, S (Self ID Start), S (Self ID Grant), S (Self ID Receive), S (Send Speed Capabilities), S (Self ID Transmit) and S (Self ID Suspend). Herein, the state machine is placed in the state S to suspend the Self ID process until the node detects Idle at a parent port connected to a parent node after detecting Idle at a receive port receiving the Self ID packet from another node.

For establishing a parent-child relationship between adjacent network nodes interconnected by a transmission medium, a handshaking circuit comprises a state detector for monitoring the transmission medium to detect predetermined first and second states and a contention that occurs when the predetermined first states are simultaneously present. A state machine asserts the first state for initiating a handshaking process and relinquishes this state when a contention is detected. A receive count value is continuously incremented from the instant the contention is detected to the instant the transmission medium changes to an idle state. A transmit count value is continuously incremented from the instant the first state is detected to the instant the contention is detected. When the transmit count value is greater than the receive count value, the state machine asserts the first state again and when the transmit count value is smaller than the receive count value, it asserts the second state.

In a bus reset process of an IEEE-1394 transceiver circuit, a signal is transmitted to a serial bus and a signal from the bus is received and applied to a higher layer. When a transmit bus reset signal is detected in the transmitted signal, a masking signal is exclusively applied to the higher layer in response to the start timing of the transmit bus reset signal. A receive bus reset signal is detected in the received signal. A count operation is started for incrementing a count value in response to the start timing of the detected receive bus reset signal until the count value exceeds a predetermined value. The received signal is then exclusively applied to the higher layer in response to the end timing of the count operation.

The signal correction circuit corrects the tone pulse width of an envelope-signal generated from the incoming tone signal by broadening the pulse width so as to conform to a tone signal having the pulse width specified by own connection state managing machine.
