An image reading apparatus includes a supporting portion, a feeding portion, a curved conveyance path, a conveyance unit, an image reading unit, a driving source, an output pulley, an input pulley, a first pulley, a second pulley, a driving belt, and a transmission belt. The image reading unit is configured to read an image on a first surface at a location between the first driving roller and the second driving roller in a sheet conveyance direction. The output pulley is fixed to an output shaft of the driving source. The input pulley is fixed to the second driving roller. The first pulley is fixed to the first driving roller. The second pulley is fixed to the second driving roller. The driving belt is wound around the output pulley and the input pulley. The transmission belt is wound around the first pulley and the second pulley.

Image reading apparatus and image forming apparatus

An ink jet recording apparatus is equipped with an upstream side conveyance unit arranged on a conveyance upstream side of a recording head and a downstream side conveyance unit arranged on a conveyance downstream side thereof. The ink jet recording apparatus obtains, by recording a test pattern on a sheet, a conveyance correction amount when conveyance is performed solely by the downstream side conveyance unit. The ink jet recording apparatus includes a control unit which, when effecting an arbitrary recording, effects control such that, when a sheet trailing edge leaves the upstream side conveyance unit, a rotating position of a drive side roller of the downstream side conveyance unit is the same as the rotating position of the drive side roller when the test pattern is recorded.

In an image reading apparatus which can read a transparent original and reflection original, a white background is formed like a sheet. The image reading apparatus is arranged to be movable by a pair of rollers which rotate using, e.g., the driving source of an original feeder. To read a transparent original, the white sheet is moved by the pair of rollers to a position where a transparent original reading illumination unit is exposed. This makes it possible to eliminate trouble in detaching the white background mounted on the back of an original platen in accordance with the type of an original to be read.

Image reading apparatus and image printing apparatus using the same

Images obtained by prescanning a transparent original by an image reading apparatus are output from a printing apparatus as a navigation sheet on which the images are laid out together with additional information fields. The navigation sheet containing additional information is read, and the additional information is recognized. The transparent original which is left after prescanning is scanned, and printing is performed on the basis of the recognized additional information. This makes it possible to print out a desired image under desired conditions from the transparent original, in which a plurality of images are recorded, by operating a single apparatus without any external device such as a host computer.

In an image reading apparatus that is capable of reading a transparent original and a reflective original, a navigation sheet () on which the content of transparent-original read processing has been entered and a film guide () holding a transparent original are placed on an original table (), and the navigation sheet () is read first to recognize the content thereof. Next, a scanner carriage unit () is moved so that the transparent original being held by the film guide () is read in based upon the result of recognition of the navigation sheet (). Since a method of reading the transparent original can be designated using the navigation sheet, it is easier to perform the reading of a transparent original using a stand-alone image reading apparatus.

In an image reading apparatus that can read a reflection original and transparent original, a film holder for holding the transparent original is provided to be pivotal to the left or right about a shaft as the center. After the transparent original is set such that its image can be seen correctly, when the film holder is brought down to the right, the film can be set correctly concerning its upper and lower sides. At this time, as the film holder is held by the reading apparatus, its positional shift can also be prevented.

An image reading and recording apparatus is provided with a carriage having the drive switching gear, which transmits driving power to a reading drive gear train only in a drive switching position. Then, when a reading command is issued, the carriage moves to this drive switching position. For this operation, a driving motor that serves as one driving source is arranged to transmit the driving power thereof to the recording drive gear train and the reading drive gear train. Also, there is no need for an original and a recording sheet to pass different passages of transportation by shearing a common passage of transportation for use by both of them, hence making it possible to materialize downsizing the apparatus, and reducing the cost of manufacture as well.

The present invention relates to a recording apparatus comprising a carriage provided reciprocally movably with a recording head unit placed thereon, a switchable cover for covering an opening portion for taking out the recording head unit from the apparatus at the time the carriage is stopped at a second stopping position different from a first stopping position provided at one end of the reciprocal movement range, and a release lever provided movably to a position for fixing the recording head unit on the carriage or releasing the same therefrom. The release lever is moved to a position for fixing the recording head unit on the carriage in the case the carriage is moved with the release lever disposed at a position for releasing the recording head unit from the carriage.

In an image output apparatus which can perform entire-surface printing and both-sided printing, if an instruction to print additional information together with an image is issued or printing of the additional information together with the image is set, it is determined whether to perform entire-surface printing or normal printing. In the case of entire-surface printing, the additional information is printed on the back surface while in the case of normal printing, the additional information is printed outside an image printing area. This makes it possible to print the additional information of an image to be printed and output at a position which does not overlap the image.

To provide a reading/printing apparatus and a reading apparatus by which the facility with which each unit is assembled and maintained can be significantly improved because steps of fixing and connecting individual units need not be performed in order, a printing apparatus, a control board, and a power supply are disposed inside a housing obtained by integrally forming a base portion serving as a bottom surface, side walls serving as outer side surfaces, and an opening surrounded by the side walls. The housing includes a first housing integrally formed with enough strength to separately fix the base portion, lower portions of the side walls, the reading apparatus, the printing apparatus, the control board, and the power supply, and a second housing covering the opening and integrally forming upper portions of the side walls. The second housing is fixed to the first housing by elastic deformation so as to cover the opening of the first housing.

An ink jet recording apparatus has a recording mode in which recording is performed by selectively discharging black ink and color inks of colors other than black. Any abnormality in the state of discharge of the ink is performed by executing a test discharging operation. When the recording apparatus functions as a facsimile apparatus, the test discharging operation is conducted by discharging only the black ink, without discharging inks of other colors. Wasteful consumption of ink is diminished, so that the running cost of the ink jet recording apparatus is reduced.
