Sheet aligning device and image forming apparatus including the same

An image forming apparatus includes a belt-shaped image carrier that carries an image, an image transfer unit that transfers the image onto a recording medium, and a conveying unit that conveys the recording medium to the image transfer unit. The image carrier has a sloping surface that slopes down from an upstream of the image transfer unit in a conveying direction. The conveying unit includes a linear conveying path that is arranged an upstream of the image transfer unit in the conveying direction, below the sloping surface and above a horizontal line passing through the image transfer unit.

Image forming apparatus

A disclosed image forming apparatus includes an image transferring unit configured to transfer an image to a recording medium; a fusing unit provided downstream of the image transferring unit and configured to fuse the image transferred by the image transferring unit with the recording medium; a recording medium conveying unit provided between the image transferring unit and the fusing unit and configured to convey the recording medium from the image transferring unit to the fusing unit; a conveyance failure detecting unit configured to detect a conveyance failure of the recording medium; and a recording medium evacuation unit to which the recording medium can be evacuated in the event that the conveyance failure detecting unit detects the conveyance failure. A disclosed image forming apparatus includes a main conveyance path configured to convey a recording medium from a paper feeding unit to a sheet discharge unit; a double-side reversing conveyance path configured to switch back a recording medium, one side of which has an image formed, so as to reverse the sides of the recording medium for double-sided image formation; a sheet resending conveyance path configured to resend the recording medium reversed in the double-side reversing conveyance path to the main conveyance path; and a double-side reversing open-space unit configured to provide a space for switching back the recording medium on the double-side reversing conveyance path. The double-side reversing open-space unit also serves as a temporary tray for storing misfed recording media and remaining recording media left inside the image forming apparatus when a jam occurs.

Disclosed is an image forming apparatus that includes a recording medium feeding unit that feeds a recording medium to a predetermined conveyance path; a conveyance unit that conveys the recording medium fed from the recording medium feeding unit on the conveyance path; a conveyance status detection unit that detects a conveyance status of the recording medium placed on the conveyance path; a control unit that controls operations of the recording medium feeding unit, the conveyance unit, and the conveyance status detection unit; and an accommodation unit that accommodates the recording medium. The control unit controls the feeding of the recording medium with the recording medium feeding unit and the conveyance of the recording medium with the conveyance unit based on a detection result of the conveyance status detection unit, thereby discharging the recording medium present in the image forming apparatus to the accommodation unit.

Image forming apparatus which continues to convey a sheet if the sheet is only slightly delayed

A first longitudinal registration correcting unit corrects a misalignment of a recording medium in its conveying direction. A lateral registration correcting unit corrects a misalignment of the recording medium in its width direction after the misalignment in the conveying direction is corrected by the first longitudinal registration correcting unit. A second longitudinal registration correcting unit corrects the misalignment of the recording medium in the conveying direction again after the misalignment in the width direction is corrected by the lateral registration correcting unit.

A disclosed image forming apparatus includes a transport unit configured to transport a recording medium along a transport path, a transport status detection unit disposed on the transport path and configured to detect a transport status of the recording medium, a control unit configured to control transport by the transport unit according to the transport status of the recording medium detected by the transport status detection unit, and a container unit configured to hold the recording medium. If the transport status detection unit detects a delay in transporting the recording medium, the control unit controls the transport unit to discharge the recording medium or another recording medium in the transport path into the container unit.

A moving unit includes first and second transportation paths that can selectively link to main transportation path of a recording sheet, a first roller arranged between the first and the second transportation paths, second and third rollers capable of making contact with the first roller across the first and the second transportation paths, respectively. When the moving unit moves to a position at which the first transportation path or the second transportation path is linked to the main transportation path, a mechanism varies a pressing force of the second roller or the third roller with respect to the first roller.

There are disposed optical sensors (S1, S2, S3,S4, S5, and S6) outside sheet trays (1, 2, 3). The optical axes of the optical sensors are respectively set in such a manner that they are parallel to their associated up-down tables (1a, 2a, and 3a) and pass upwardly of contact positions (A, B and C) between sheets (P) and sheet supply rollers (20, 21, and 22). Using these optical sensors, the present image forming apparatus is able to detect a first condition based on information as to whether a sheet is positioned at a sheet suppliable position on the up-down table of the sheet tray or not, a second condition based on information as to whether a sheet position restrict member (23) removably mounted on the sheet tray is set properly or not, a third condition based on information as to whether a foreign object has invaded the apparatus main body side or not when the sheet tray was removed from the apparatus main body, and a fourth condition based on information on the warped amount and/or folded amount of the sheet.
