A liquid crystal display device includes a first liquid crystal display panel in which a first main pixel including subpixels is arranged in a matrix, and that displays a color image, and a second liquid crystal display panel that includes a second main pixel corresponding to a plurality of the first main pixel, and that displays a monochrome image. The second main pixel is divided into a plurality of regions, and has pixel electrodes disposed in the plurality of regions and a plurality of light shields. At least a portion of the plurality of light shields is formed from a switching element that connects to each of the pixel electrodes, and the plurality of light shields is arranged in a staggered manner. The light shields positioned within one set of the regions formed from adjacent regions forms one set of the light shields.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display panel includes a plurality of pixels. The pixels each include a pixel electrode, a common electrode, and a liquid crystal that rotates in-plane due to voltage applied by the pixel electrode and the common electrode. The pixel electrode includes a linear electrode. When an initial alignment direction of the liquid crystal for which dielectric anisotropy is positive, or a direction perpendicular to the initial alignment direction of the liquid crystal for which dielectric anisotropy is negative is defined as a predetermined first direction, at a boundary between pixels, of the plurality of pixels, that are adjacent to each other, a boundary line between the adjacent pixels, the linear electrode, and an end side of the linear electrode are inclined with respect to the predetermined first direction, and inclining directions with respect to the predetermined first direction of the boundary line, the linear electrode, and the end side are identical.

Liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first liquid crystal display panel, and a second liquid crystal display panel that overlaps the first liquid crystal display panel. At least one of the first liquid crystal display panel and the second liquid crystal display panel includes a light blocking pattern that is repeatedly arranged and has light blocking properties. The light blocking pattern includes a first light blocking line and a second light blocking line that extend in a predetermined direction. The first light blocking line includes a first incline inclined with respect to the predetermined direction, and a second incline inclined in a direction opposite the first incline with respect to the predetermined direction, and the second light blocking line is adjacent to the first light blocking line and is line-symmetrical, with respect to the predetermined direction, to the first light blocking line. At least one of the first light blocking line and the second light blocking line is formed from one of scan wirings and signal wiring of the first liquid crystal display panel and the second liquid crystal display panel.

A driving potential is given to the first electrodes and the third electrodes, respectively. A common potential is given to the second electrodes and the fourth electrodes, respectively. Each of the third electrodes is located at a layer closer to the liquid crystal as compared to the second electrodes, and intersects with one of the second electrodes through an insulating layer. Each of the fourth electrodes is located at a layer closer to the liquid crystal as compared to the first electrodes, and intersects with one of the first electrodes through an insulating layer. A width of the third electrodes is the same as each other at respective intersections of the the third electrodes and the the second electrodes. A width of the fourth electrodes is the same as each other at respective intersections of the the fourth electrodes and the the first electrodes.

Provided is a lateral-electric-field mode active matrix liquid crystal display device in which an afterimage can be improved. The width of one pixel comb electrodeB of a plurality of pixel comb electrodesis larger than each of the widths of the other pixel comb electrodesand common comb electrodesand is equivalent to the width of a common shield electrodeB that covers an image signal wiring linevia a second insulating film. A display region is divided into two subregions by the wide pixel comb electrodeB. In each subregion, the number of pixel comb electrodesis equal to that of common comb electrodes. In addition, the width of the common shield electrodeB is equivalent to that of the wide pixel comb electrodeB, and the concentration of an electric field in the vicinity of each pixel comb electrode is reduced. Since structural symmetry is achieved, an electric potential distribution becomes symmetrical, and the asymmetry of the manners of emitting light between frames is reduced. As a result, the DC offset component of an image signal after flicker adjustment is reduced to improve an afterimage.

Liquid-crystal display device

A lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode made with a transparent conductive film formed on different layers on a first substrate via an insulating film. Each pixel is divided into a first region and a second region. In the first region, the pixel electrode and the common electrode formed linearly substantially in parallel to each other rotate liquid crystal molecules in the region by a lateral electric field applied between the both electrodes. In the second region, at least the electrode on a lower layer side out of the pixel electrode and the common electrode is in a plan shape, and a part where the pixel electrode and the common electrode overlap with each other forms a storage capacitance.

Lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device

To provide a structure for achieving high transmittance in a lateral-electric-field mode liquid crystal display device through stably controlling the domains in the terminal parts of comb-shaped electrodes where the liquid crystal molecules rotate in the reverse direction. In the lateral-electric-field mode liquid crystal display device in which common electrodes and pixel electrodes are formed on a same layer, a protrusion part is provided in a direction in an obtuse angle with the comb-shaped electrode and substantially in parallel to a scan line in the terminal part of the comb-shaped electrode of the pixel electrode or the common electrode, a floating electrode is extended in the extending direction of the comb-shaped electrode to overlap with the comb-shaped electrode in the terminal part, and a liquid crystal reverse rotation locked structure is formed with the protrusion part of the comb-shaped electrode and the floating electrode.

Lateral-electric-field mode liquid crystal display device

To provide an active-matrix type liquid crystal display device having a structure in which alignment of flattening films formed in the display region is uniform and fine, which can secure a large storage capacitance with a small area and achieve a high numerical aperture. A recessed region having no flattening film is formed in a part on a source electrode. In the recessed region, a common electrode made with a transparent conductive film covers a source electrode to form a second storage capacitor.

Disclosed is an active matrix liquid crystal display device including substrates and a liquid crystal layer. The substrate includes: scan signal wiring lines; common signal wiring lines; video signal wiring lines intersecting these wiring lines; and pixels surrounded with the scan signal wiring lines and the video signal wiring lines. Each of pixels includes: a thin film transistor; source electrodes in a layer with the video signal wiring lines; pixel electrodes connected to the source electrodes; and common electrodes connected to the common signal wiring lines. The source electrodes include first parts overlapping the scan signal wiring lines and second parts connecting with the pixel electrodes, which are positioned around central parts between the video signal wiring lines. Molecular axes in the liquid crystal layer rotate under an electric field applied between the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes.

Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device that includes a TFT substrate. A plurality of gate lines and a plurality of common lines extend in a first direction on the TFT substrate. Drain lines extend in a second direction substantially perpendicularly to these lines. Bus lines are located outside a display area and are extending parallel to the drain lines. Common line terminals are provided on either side of each block that is constituted by a predetermined number of gate terminals. The common line terminals and the lead lines therefore are formed on the same layer as the drain lines and are connected to the bus lines on the same layer without any contacts being used. Resistance along the routes taken by common lines can be reduced.

Method of manufacturing an LCD device

In a liquid crystal display unit where a matrix pattern of pixels are defined by gate lines and crosswise data lines, transparent pixel electrodes are formed on the same layer as the data lines and corresponding transparent common electrodes are formed above the transparent pixel electrodes. On the common electrodes the liquid crystal layer is provided. In the aperture of each pixel, the common electrode has a pattern of parallel stripe portions and a peripheral portion outside of the aperture for shielding the field of the corresponding data line. Each pixel electrode cooperates with that parallel stripe portions of the corresponding common electrode to produce inner fringe fields along such parallel stripe portions and has portions that overlap the peripheral portions of the common electrode to produce peripheral fringe fields so that liquid-crystal cells can be uniformly in-plane switched by the inner fringe fields as well as by the peripheral fringe fields.

High aperture ratio in-plane switching mode active matrix liquid crystal display unit

A pixel region between a common electrode and a pixel electrode is composed of a principal portion in which the direction of extension of the common electrode and the pixel electrode is parallel with the initial alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules, and a specific portion not parallel with the initial alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules. In the specific portion, the distal portion of the pixel electrode and the basal portion of the common electrode are mutually parallel and inclined by a prescribed angle with respect to the initial alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules. When voltage is applied across the common electrode and the pixel electrode to generate a horizontal electric field, the horizontal electric field will be perpendicular to the initial alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules within the principal portion that occupies a major part of a column, whereas the field will not be perpendicular within the specific portion. The principal portion occupies the major part of the column.

Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device that includes a TFT substrate. A plurality of gate lines and a plurality of common lines extend in a first direction on the TFT substrate. Drain lines extend in a second direction substantially perpendicularly to these lines. Bus lines are located outside a display area and are extending parallel to the drain lines. Common line terminals are provided on either side of each block that is constituted by a predetermined number of gate terminals. The common line terminals and the lead lines therefor are formed on the same layer as the drain lines and are connected to the bus lines on the same layer without any contacts being used. Resistance along the routes taken by common lines can be reduced.
