An image display device which includes a parallax adjustment unit, a display unit, a parallax detector, and a maximum parallax detector. The parallax adjustment unit is configured to obtain a right-eye image signal and a left-eye image signal. The parallax adjustment unit is configured to adjust a parallax between the right-eye image signal and left-eye image signal and output an adjusted image signal that includes an adjusted left-eye and adjusted right-eye signal. The parallax detector is configured to detect an amount of parallax between the right-eye and left-eye image signals. The maximum parallax detector is configured to detect a maximum value. The display unit is configured to display a right-eye image and a left-eye image and to display an augmented image including the right-eye image and the left-eye image as well as a monitor image indicating the amount of parallax detected and the maximum value.

An image display deviceincludes: a liquid crystal panelhaving a plurality of pixels; and an overdrive execution sectionconfigured to determine, with respect to each of target pixels for which overdrive is performed among the plurality of pixels of the liquid crystal panel, a gain usage value to be used for the overdrive, based on a predetermined set gain value, and to apply, based on the gain usage value, a liquid-crystal driving voltage to the corresponding target pixel, wherein with respect to a pixel, among the target pixels, for which it is judged that a gradation value in a current frame obtained from the video signal is an intermediate gradation value, the overdrive execution sectionperforms a gain suppressing operation for determining the gain usage value as a value smaller than the set gain value.

An image display device includes a plurality solid-state light sources, a modulator configured to modulate light from a plurality of solid-state light sources, and an image display device configured to generate from a frame of image data, a plurality of subframes each further divided into subfields, and to display the plurality of subframes. The modulator turns off light output from all the solid-state light sources for the duration of one or more of the plurality of subframes, whereby it is possible to reduce motion blur arising from a hold-type display device, in which after-images remain on the retina of a person's eyes when viewing moving objects.

A projection image display device has a plurality of light sources, a phosphor layer that emits light through excitation by at least any one of the light sources, an optical section, a temperature detector, a light-source intensity controller, an amplitude controller, a luminance controller. The optical section determines an optical path of light emitted from the light sources and the phosphor layer. The temperature detector directly or indirectly detects temperature of the phosphor layer or of the periphery of the phosphor layer. The light-source intensity controller controls intensity of an excitation light source that excites the phosphor layer. The amplitude controller controls the amplitude of a projection image signal. The luminance controller controls luminance of projection images by switching the light-source intensity controller and the amplitude controller according to a detected temperature.

A transmissive screen includes, sequentially from a projection side, a Fresnel lens having a condensing function, a diffusion plate for diffusing incident light, and a front-surface protective panel disposed facing the diffusion plate across an air flow layer of a predetermined interval. The front-surface protective panel partially absorbs visible light, and the visible light absorbance of the front-surface protective panel is made the highest compared with the Fresnel lens and the diffusion plate.

A projectordetects a luminance distribution in an effective video period of an inputted video luminance signal, and a coefficient calculating circuitcalculates a correction coefficient Cto correct a gradation (FIG.A). Then, surrounding brightness is detected, and the correction coefficient Cis adjusted based on the surrounding brightness to obtain an adjusted correction coefficient C' (FIG.B). As shown in FIG.C, a luminance can be raised to Q according to a brightness signal even for a pixel of a lowest input luminance by adjusting the correction coefficient. Other correction coefficients in a range of 0 to 255 before adjustment are proportionally distributed to a range of 0 to 255-Q, and added with a correction coefficient Q. A luminance of each pixel which belongs to the effective video period of the video luminance signal is adjusted using the adjusted correction coefficient.

The present invention includes a film or video image pickup signal recording/reproduction system having an image pickup apparatus outputting an image pickup signal, a recording apparatus recording the image pickup signal, a reproduction apparatus reproducing the recorded signal, a characteristic conversion apparatus switching the characteristic of the reproduced signal, and a display apparatus displaying the signal output from the characteristic conversion apparatus. The image pickup apparatus has two kinds of gamma curve characteristics. The gamma curve characteristic data is recorded by the recording apparatus and extracted by the reproduction apparatus. The gamma curve characteristic of a reproduction image is switched by the characteristic conversion apparatus depending on the data. The image is output on a display apparatus.

Characteristic correction apparatus for gamma correcting an image based on the image type

Correlation of videos between fields is determined between a difference between an input interlaced signal and a signal that is delayed by one field with respect to the input interlaced signal. Correlation among N-1 sequential fields is compared with a predetermined pattern to determine whether the input interlaced signal is unquestionably a telecine-converted signal, whether it is unquestionably not a telecine-converted signal, or whether it cannot be said to be unquestionably a telecine-converted signal. If a determination of being unquestionably a telecine-converted signal is continued for a predetermined number or more of fields, an instruction signal, which instructs to perform inter-field interpolation on the input interlaced signal, is outputted.

A remote control system with a pointing device which can control the computer itself also by the pointing device as well as by the key input device. The remote controller comprising a key input device, a pointing device, a first controller which is provided for encoding a key code (KC) signal to a remote control signal, a second controller provided for encoding a pointer control (PC) signal to a remote control signal, an output device outputs the remote control (RC) signal, and said receiver comprising a receive device for receiving the RC signal, a third controller outputs a control signal for controlling a computer a fourth controller outputs a coordinate signal for moving a pointer on a computer display, a first decoder decodes the RC signal to the KC signal and outputs the KC signal to the third controller, and a second decoder decodes said RC signal to the PC signal and outputs the PC signal to the fourth controller and also the third controller.

Remote control system with a pointing device

A plasma display having a quartet type pixel structure provides a high grade and excellent picture quality picture and maintains good white balance and excellent intensity levels. The plasma display comprises a reference circuit .phi. for outputting a control signal based on the least significant bit of a digitized green video signal and a timing signal and an arithmetic circuit 8 for performing an arithmetic operation on the output of the reference circuit. As a result of this arrangement, the least significant bit information, that was lost by halving the green signal value to maintain the white balance is incorporated in the halved green signal based on a timing signal, thereby realizing 256 intensity levels without degrading the halftone in the video picture.

Plasma display

A video theater system has a reproducing apparatus by which picture reproduced from a distribution tape and picture received from a communication satellite are alternatively put on the screen. A scrambled signal transmitted from the communication satellite is converted to a scrambled signal of the same form signal as the scrambled signal reproduced from the distribution tape, thus enabling a common decoder to descramble both the two signals coming from different input routes from each other.

Video theater system and reproducing apparatus therefor

A video theater system includes a video cassette recording at least a component video signal to which a copy preventive scheme has been applied; a video cassette recorder for reproducing the video cassette; a tuner and an antenna for receiving a signal transmitted via a satellite; a controller device for controlling the video cassette recorder and the tuner; means for releasing the copy preventive scheme; and a projector for projecting a video image from which the copy preventive scheme has been released. The copy preventive scheme is applied, while at least a synchronizing signal is retained, to a protected video signal at a point between dubbing of the master tape to the distribution tape after a video conversion and the second video cassette recorder. This copy preventive scheme is released by means of a device and circuit following a video cassette recorder used to reproduce the video signal in readiness for the projection thereof onto a screen.

Video theater system and copy preventive method

A method of manufacturing optical elements which is capable of obtaining optical elements at high accuracy by molding through employment of an optical element molding glass material preliminarily processed to prevent such defects as crack formation or chipping at the corner portions of the molding material which contact dies when the material is charged into the mold. An optical element molding glass material to be employed for the above method is formed with curvatures at boundary portions i.e. corner portions where its cylindrical portion contacts at right angles with its end flat portions by applying chemical etching, heat of a carbon dioxide gas laser or radiation heat to such corner portions. Meanwhile, in the manufacturing process of the optical element in which upper and lower dies and the preliminarily processed molding material are subjected to molding through heating and pressurization in a contacted state at all times, the molding pressure is arranged to be reduced at least one or reduced to zero to provide the optical element at high accuracy.

A lens molding method where a lens material is set between an upper mold and a lower mold, and the molding pressure is reduced or made zero at least once during a heating & pressing step without the mold surfaces breaking contact with the lens materials, and during a cooling & pressing step.
