In a method for driving an optical element including a first liquid crystal cell, the first liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate on which first and second transparent electrodes are arranged in a first direction, a second substrate on which third and fourth transparent electrodes are arranged in a second direction, and a first liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate, and the method includes the steps of inputting a first signal to the first transparent electrode, inputting a second signal having a phase difference of π with respect to the first signal to the second transparent electrode, inputting a third signal having a phase difference of α with respect to the first signal to the third transparent electrode, and inputting a fourth signal having a phase difference of π with respect to the third signal to the fourth transparent electrode.

Method for driving optical element

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal device includes a first liquid crystal cell, a second liquid crystal cell, a first flexible wiring board including a first terminal and connected to the first liquid crystal cell, a second flexible wiring board including a second terminal and connected to the second liquid crystal cell, and a circuit board including a first connector connected to the first terminal and a second connector connected to the second terminal. The first flexible wiring board and the second flexible wiring board are arranged without overlapping each other in plan view. A first distance from an edge of the circuit board to the first connector and a second distance from the edge to the second connector are different from each other.

Liquid crystal device

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel including pixels arranged in a matrix, a common electrode, a pixel electrode disposed for each of the pixels, and a liquid crystal layer containing a polymer and liquid crystal molecules, a light source, and a controller controlling a voltage between the common electrode and the pixel electrode, and controlling an operation of the light source. The controller applies a voltage corresponding to an image component to write the image component between the common electrode and the pixel electrode in order from the pixel located on an opposite side to the light source in a first period, and turns on the light source to display an image corresponding to the written image component on the display panel in the first period.

Display device and control method for display device

A display device includes: a display panel having a display region in which pixels are arranged; scan lines each coupled to the pixels arranged in a row direction; signal lines each coupled to the pixels arranged in a column direction; a signal line drive circuit; a scan line drive circuit selecting the scan lines; and a signal processing circuit. A second half period of a selection period of a first scan line overlaps a first half period of a selection period of a second scan line. The signal processing circuit adjusts a pixel gradation value of the pixel in an m-th column coupled to the second scan line when a difference value between the pixel gradation value of the pixel in the m-th column coupled to the first scan line and an average gradation value of the pixels arranged in the m-th column is larger than a predetermined value.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first transparent substrate having a first side surface extending over a first area, a second area and a third area, a second transparent substrate opposed to the first transparent substrate in the third area, a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer, a first wiring board mounted with a first light-emitting element in the first area, a second wiring board mounted with a second light-emitting element in the second area, a first terminal connected to a power supply in the first area, a second terminal connected to the second wiring board in the second area, and a first conductive layer arranged on the first side surface and connected to the first terminal and the second terminal.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel, a third transparent substrate, a light-emitting element, and a modulation element. The display panel includes a first transparent substrate, a second transparent substrate, a first liquid crystal layer of a polymer dispersed type held. The third transparent substrate has a first end portion. The light-emitting element is opposed to the first end portion. The modulation element includes a fourth transparent substrate and a fifth transparent substrate disposed between the light-emitting element and the first end portion, a second liquid crystal layer, and control electrodes for applying voltage to the second liquid crystal layer.

Display device and illumination device

A display device includes: first and second substrates with a liquid crystal therebetween; pixel electrodes and a common electrode provided to the first or second substrate; a light source including first to third light sources; and an image processor generating a signal to be provided to each pixel based on an input image signal. A frame period includes a first subframe period in which the first light source is on, a second subframe period in which the second light source is on, a third subframe period in which the third light source is on, and a fourth subframe period in which one or more of the first to third light sources are on. The image processor divides a gradation value into two values smaller than the gradation value, allocates one of the two values to the fourth subframe period, and allocates the other value to the other first subframe period.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel in which pixel units are arranged, and a controller configured to generate image signals by multiplying display data externally supplied to each line by a luminosity adjustment factor, to supply the generated image signals to the pixel units, to accumulate power consumption of each line, and to execute black insertion if the accumulated power consumption is determined to be greater than power consumption of one previous display frame by a predetermined value, wherein the luminosity adjustment factor is acquired by substituting the power consumption of one previous frame to a decreasing function, and a display pattern including a plurality of continuing black display lines is synchronized with supply of the image signals and is displayed moving the same direction of a screen scanning direction of the display panel during the black insertion.

According to an aspect, a display device includes: a first translucent substrate; a second translucent substrate facing the first translucent substrate; a liquid crystal layer including polymer dispersed liquid crystal sealed between the first translucent substrate and the second translucent substrate; at least one light emitter facing at least one of a side surface of the first translucent substrate or a side surface of the second translucent substrate; and a display controller that controls transmittance of light passing through the first translucent substrate and the second translucent substrate. A non-light-emitting period in which the at least one light emitter does not emit light is provided between a plurality of light-emitting periods in which the at least one light emitter emits light.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a plurality of light sources, a display panel illuminated by the light sources and a drive circuit which drives the light sources time-divisionally to emit light sequentially based on a first image signal for displaying an image in color. The drive circuit determines whether visibility of the image displayed in color deteriorates because of external light, extracts from the first image signal a brightness signal when determining that the visibility of the image deteriorates, generates a second image signal based on the brightness signal, and drives the display panel based on the second image signal when the second image signal is generated.

Display device and display method

According to one embodiment, a display device displays an n&#x2212;1frame (n is an integer which is greater than or equal 2) and an nframe in this order. The display device includes a display panel, calculator, adjuster, and controller. The calculator calculates power consumption of the n&#x2212;1frame. The adjuster determines whether or not the nframe is brighter than the n&#x2212;1frame, and adjusts brightness of the nframe based on a brightness adjustment magnification of the nframe calculated based on the power consumption of the n&#x2212;1frame and a decreasing function, when the nframe is not brighter than the n&#x2212;1frame. The controller stops light emission with an arbitrary timing when the nframe is displayed, when the nframe is brighter than the n&#x2212;1frame.

Display device and method for controlling display device

In one embodiment, a display device having a touch function includes an insulating substrate and a plurality of pixels formed on the insulating substrate and arranged in a matrix of rows and columns. The pixels form a plurality of pixel blocks formed of a plurality of rows and columns of the pixels. A sensor circuit is arranged in a space between adjacent pixels on the insulating substrate and includes a coupling electrode, a detection electrode arranged adjacent to the coupling electrode for forming a coupling capacitance therebetween, and a reading-out circuit to read out a potential of the detection electrode. At least one sensor circuit is arranged in each pixel block. The contact or non-contact by a fingertip or a nib is detected by a potential difference of the detection electrode.
