A connection passage is formed by a first impeller housing member, a motor housing member, and a second impeller housing member. This prevents, for example, the formation of a gap between a housing and a pipe, which is separate from the housing, in a centrifugal compressor like in a configuration in which a first discharge port and a second suction port are connected to each other by attaching the pipe to the housing. The connection passage is formed only by sequentially overlapping and coupling the first impeller housing member, the motor housing member, and the second impeller housing member with each other in an axial direction of the rotary shaft. This eliminates, for example, the need to provide a structure in the pipe that absorbs the dimensional tolerances that occur between the housing and the pipe when attaching the pipe to the housing.

Centrifugal compressor

A centrifugal compressor includes a rotary shaft, an electric motor, an impeller, a thrust bearing, and a housing having a passage that includes a motor cooling passage and a bearing cooling passage. The housing includes an inner housing and an outer housing. The motor cooling passage is defined by the inner housing and the outer housing. The passage includes a branching passage through which cooling fluid is divided and flows into the motor cooling passage and the bearing cooling passage and a joining passage through which the cooling fluid flowing through the bearing cooling passage joins the cooling fluid flowing through the motor cooling passage. The motor cooling passage includes a guide wall that guides the cooling fluid flowing through the motor cooling passage.

A centrifugal compressor that includes: a rotary shaft; a compressor impeller mounted on the rotary shaft and configured to rotate together with the rotary shaft to compress a fluid; a housing accommodating the rotary shaft and the compressor impeller; and a thrust bearing supporting the rotary shaft in a thrust direction such that the rotary shaft is rotatable. The housing includes: an impeller chamber in which the compressor impeller is accommodated; a thrust bearing accommodation chamber in which the thrust bearing is accommodated; and a partition wall separating the impeller chamber from the thrust bearing accommodation chamber. The partition wall has therein a cooling gas passage through which cooling gas flows to cool the thrust bearing and a cooling water passage through which cooling water flows to cool the partition wall.

A motor-driven Roots pump includes a housing, a drive shaft and a driven shaft that have axial lines parallel with each other, and a gear chamber. The housing includes a first partition that has a first defining surface, a second partition having a second defining surface, and a relief recess. An addendum circle of the drive gear and an addendum circle of the driven gear intersect with each other at a first intersection point. A plane that includes both the axial lines is defined as an imaginary plane. The first intersection point is located on a side of the imaginary plane on which the drive gear and the driven gear start meshing with each other. An opening of the relief recess is opposed to the first intersection point and is arranged in a region on a side of the imaginary plane on which the first intersection point is located.

Motor-driven roots pump with smooth activation in low-temperature environment

A housing unit of a Roots pump includes a rotor housing, which includes a peripheral wall, and a cover member, which closes an opening of the rotor housing. At least one of a mating surface of the peripheral wall or a mating surface of the cover member includes an annular first groove accommodating a seal member. The rotor housing includes a bulging portion including a second groove. The seal member incudes first projections, which project from an annular seal body, and a second projection, which projects further radially inward from the seal body than the first projections. Each first projection includes a distal end that contacts a side surface on a radially inner side or on a radially outer side of the first groove. The second projection is arranged in the second groove to determine the position of the seal body in the first groove.

A seal member includes pushing projections that project from a seal body toward at a groove inner-side circumferential surface and are arranged at intervals in a circumferential direction of the seal body. The pushing projections push the seal body against the groove inner-side circumferential surface and a groove outer-side circumferential surface between the groove inner-side circumferential surface and the groove outer-side circumferential surface. This reduces the gap between the groove outer-side circumferential surface and the seal member in the seal accommodating groove. Thus, salt water is unlikely to collect in the gap between the groove outer-side circumferential surface of the seal accommodating groove and the seal member. This improves the corrosion resistance of the housing and the seal member.

Fluid machine

A rotor-chamber wall of a motor-driven Roots pump has a suction port and a discharge port. The side on which the discharge port is located with respect to a plane that includes both the rotational axis of a drive shaft and the rotational axis of a driven shaft is a first side. A first partition wall defines a gear chamber and has a first recess on the first side. A second partition wall defines the gear chamber and has a second recess. The first partition wall has a first oil supply passage that is configured to supply oil from the first recess to a first seal accommodating recess. The second partition wall has a second and a third oil supply passages. The second and the third oil supply passages are configured to supply oil from the second recess to a second and a third seal accommodating recesses, respectively.

Motor-driven roots pump

A portable device, which performs wireless communication with a communication peer, includes a battery, which powers an electronic component, and a case, which accommodates the electronic component and battery. The case includes a battery compartment having an opening. An elastic waterproof seal surrounds the opening. A battery lid, which covers the opening, is formed integrally with the waterproof seal and coupled to the case in a direction perpendicular to a radial direction of the waterproof seal. A rim around the opening of the battery compartment pushes the waterproof seal when coupling the battery lid to the case thereby elastically deforming the waterproof seal in an inward radial direction. The waterproof seal, when elastically deformed, keeps the battery lid coupled to the case and seals the battery lid and case in a liquid-tight state.

Portable device

A roots type fluid machine includes suction and discharge ports, rotary shafts and a pair of rotors. The rotor has a number n of lobe and valley portions with apex and bottom ends. The lobe portions are located on imaginary lines extending radially from an axis of the rotary shaft. The outer surface of each one of the rotors is generated by rotating an outline of the rotor including an arc and involute and envelope curves around and moving the outline in the direction of the axis. The arc has a radius R and a center located on the imaginary line. The involute curve is formed by an imaginary base circle having a radius r and a center located on the axis. The envelope curve is formed by an arc having a radius R. The number n is four or more. A torsional angle &#x3b2; is over 360/n degrees.

Roots type fluid machine

A roots type fluid machine includes a housing, a pair of parallel rotary shafts and two-lobe rotors. Each rotor includes two lobe portions and two well portions. Each lobe portion has a profile of convex arc with a radius R and each well portion has a profile of concave arc which is an envelope of the convex arc of the lobe portion. The rotor has a configuration defined by a curve which includes the convex arc, the concave arc and further an involute curve with a base radius r between the convex and concave arcs. The base radius r is set in a range L/(2&#x221a;{square root over ( )}2)&#x3c;r&#x3c;0.3(&#x221a;{square root over ( )}2)L where distance between axes of the rotary shafts is L, and the radius R is set in a range {(&#x221a;{square root over ( )}2)/16}&#x3c0;L&#x3c;R&#x3c;{(27&#x2212;5&#x221a;{square root over ( )}2)/56}L.

A roots compressor has a housing, a rotary shaft, a rotor and a layer. The housing defines a pump chamber, a suction port and a discharge port. The suction port and the discharge port adjoin to the pump chamber. The rotary shaft is rotatably supported by the housing. The rotor is connected to the rotary shaft and contained in the pump chamber. Fluid introduced into the pump chamber through the suction port is discharged to the outside of the pump chamber through the discharge port by rotation of the rotor which is driven through the rotary shaft. The layer is formed on an inner peripheral surface of the housing, which defines the pump chamber. The layer is thinner from a side adjacent to the suction port toward a side adjacent to the discharge port in circumferential direction of the housing.

Roots compressor

A starting system for a pump includes a driving motor, an electric source, a selector switch, a starter sensor, a temperature sensor and a control unit. The selector switch is located between the driving motor and the electric source for reversing polarity of the electric power supplied from the electric source to the driving motor. The starter sensor senses whether or not the driving motor has been started. The temperature sensor senses a temperature. The control unit operates the selector switch so as to repeatedly give the driving motor indications of reverse rotation and normal rotation in a case where the starter sensor does not sense that the driving motor has been started even if the control unit operates the selector switch so as to give the driving motor the indication of normal rotation in a state where the temperature sensed by the temperature sensor is below a preset temperature.

System and method for starting pump

A scroll type compressor has a housing, a fixed metal scroll member and a movable metal scroll member. The fixed and the movable scroll members each have a base plate and scroll wall extending therefrom. The fixed scroll member is fixed to the housing. The movable scroll member engages the fixed scroll member to trace an orbital motion when driven by a crank mechanism. The scroll members define compression chambers. Resin tip seals are respectively provided on distal ends of the scroll walls and slidably engage the metallic surfaces of the facing base plates. The tip seals seal the compression chambers. A resin coating layer is formed on a region of at least one of the end surfaces of the base plates that is not contacted by a tip seal.

A scroll type compressor includes a housing, a movable scroll member, a plurality of compression chambers, a discharge port, a communication passage and a relief valve. The communication passage interconnects each intermediate compression chamber with the discharge port. The communication passage has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion extends from the first intermediate compression chamber and the second portion extends from the second intermediate compression chamber. The first portion and the second portion meet at a meeting point on the way in the communication passage before reaching the discharge port. The relief valve is placed between the meeting point and the discharge port inclusive of the meeting point in the communication passage. The relief valve opens the communication passage when the pressure in the first and the second intermediate pressure chambers is higher than the pressure in the discharge port.
