A cloth edge curl correction device includes: a support plate extending along the direction of feed of a cloth at a front position of a turn-back guide device folding up and down over a given width the edge part of the cloth to be fed into a needle location position on a cylindrical bed; a cloth support provided near the support plate and supporting the cloth from the under; and an air ejection nozzle ejecting air toward a base part of the cloth support. Ejected air from the air ejection nozzle is applied to the edge of the cloth on the cloth support so that a curl generated in the edge is smoothed and corrected and then the cloth is fed in a manner that the edge goes along the support plate.

A sewing machine for hem includes a turn-back device provided in front of a needle location position on a sewing machine bed, the turn-back device turning back an edge part of cloth into a state of being folded one above the other, and then feeding the turned-back cloth. In front of the turn-back device, a feed belt and a cloth presser foot are arranged opposite to each other with a cloth feeding path in between. By virtue of operation of a rotary solenoid performed on the basis of a detection result of a detector arranged in front of the opposing portion, the cloth presser foot is raised and lowered and thereby holds the cloth in cooperation with the feed belt so as to exert a movement force in the right and left directions onto the cloth.

In a sewing machine for covering chain stitch according to the present invention, a thread push member is mounted on a top cover shaft which drives a cover thread looper, and the thread push member is arranged on the cover thread guide. When swinging backward in association with a movement of the cover thread looper, the thread push member pushes the top cover thread passing through a guide hole of the cover thread guide, forcibly moves the top cover thread and keeps the top cover thread near a back end of the guide hole. The top cover thread is arranged at a predetermined position on a surface of a cloth without being affected by a force from the needle thread, and a covering chain stitch can stably be formed with the excellent appearance.

An apparatus for preventing the raveling of a seam wherein a looper thread hanging hook for catching a looper thread which is allowed to pass through a loop of a needle thread immediately before the completion of a sewing operation and a driving mechanism of the hook together with a mechanism for cutting the looper thread and the needle thread are arranged on the right side of a needle drop point of a sewing machine.
