An EGR valve is provided in an EGR passage circulating a part of an exhaust gas of an exhaust pipe in an intake pipe as an EGR gas, the EGR valve adjusting an EGR gas amount flowing in the EGR passage when an engine is in an EGR region, a differential pressure device is provided in the intake pipe, the differential pressure device adjusting a differential pressure of the EGR valve, a control unit is provided to control the EGR valve and the differential pressure device, and the EGR control method includes switching whether to adjust the EGR gas amount using the EGR valve and the differential pressure device or to adjust the EGR gas amount using the EGR valve only on the basis of an exhaust gas pressure of an inlet portion of the EGR passage.

EGR control method and EGR controller

The intake air cooling deviceA constitutes a heat exchange device that performs heat exchange of the intake air of the internal combustion engine. The intake air cooling deviceA includes the heat exchange partA configured to perform heat exchange between the cooling liquid W that is introduced thereto and the intake air that is passing therethrough, and the intake air control valveconfigured to perform control of the intake air that passes through the heat exchange partA. Heat exchange device

A catalytic converter is provided with: an inlet-side diffuser part; an outlet-side diffuser part; a case including an upstream-side cylindrical part and a downstream-side cylindrical part; an inner liner provided in the upstream-side cylindrical part; a first catalyst retained inside the inner liner; and a second catalyst retained inside the downstream-side cylindrical part. An end face of the second catalyst faces a peripheral surface of the inner liner. An annular flow path is provided between the upstream-side cylindrical part and the inner liner, and the first catalyst is insulated from heat by the annular flow path. A part of exhaust flows into the second catalyst via the annular flow path.

Catalytic converter

A negative pressure control valve () is disposed in a part of an intake passage () upstream of a confluence () of an EGR passage () and the intake passage (). When in an EGR region (Regr) where an EGR gas is recirculated to the intake passage () through the EGR passage (), the negative pressure control valve () is controlled in a manner to ensure a differential pressure between an exhaust passage () and the intake passage (). When in an operation region (R) lower in load than the EGR region (Regr), the negative pressure control valve () is controlled in a closing direction so as to suppress occurrence of noise.

Control method and control device for internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine () is provided with a turbocharger (), and is configured to be switchable between a stoichiometric combustion mode having a theoretical air-fuel ratio as a target air-fuel ratio and a lean combustion mode having a lean air-fuel ratio as a target air-fuel ratio. An air bypass valve () is provided in an air bypass passage () communicating a collector () on the downstream of a throttle valve () with the upstream side of a compressor () in an intake passage (). At the time of the shifting from the lean combustion mode to the stoichiometric mode, the throttle valve () is closed and the air bypass valve () is temporarily opened to decrease the pressure inside the collector () quickly.

When an operation state switches from a first operation region A to a second operation region B, the valve timing of an intake valve and an exhaust valve is switched upon switching of the operation state from the first operation region A to the second operation region B. When the operation state switches from the first operation region A to the second operation region B, the air-fuel ratio is switched after a first predetermined time Thas elapsed since when the actual valve timing of the intake valve became a second intake valve timing and the actual valve timing of the exhaust valve became a second exhaust valve timing. In this way, it becomes possible to ensure ignition when the operation state switches.

An intake control method for an internal combustion engine equipped with a low-pressure EGR system includes setting a target intake pressure, which is a target value of an intake pressure in an intake passage between a negative pressure generating valve and an intake throttle valve, necessary for performing EGR control in a state of an exhaust pressure determined for each operating point, setting a target total opening area, which is a sum of a target opening area of an EGR valve and a target opening area of the negative pressure generating valve, on the basis of the target intake pressure, a target fresh air amount, and a target EGR gas amount, setting a target EGR valve opening area, which is an opening area of the EGR valve for achieving the target EGR gas amount, assuming that the negative pressure generating valve is fully open, and setting a value obtained by subtracting the target EGR valve opening area from the target total opening area to be a target negative pressure generating valve opening area, which is a target value of an opening area of the negative pressure generating valve.

An exhaust gas recirculation control method of an internal combustion engine, the internal combustion engine including: a turbo supercharger; an exhaust gas recirculation passage communicating an exhaust passage with an intake passage at a part upstream of a compressor of the turbo supercharger; an exhaust gas recirculating amount control valve disposed in the exhaust gas recirculation passage; a differential pressure generating valve disposed upstream of a merging portion of fresh air gas and exhaust gas in the intake passage; and a controller adapted to control an opening of the exhaust gas recirculation amount control valve and an opening of the differential pressure generating valve, wherein in the method, the controller cooperatively controls the opening of the exhaust gas recirculation amount control valve and the opening of the differential pressure generating valve to make an exhaust gas recirculation ratio change to a target exhaust gas recirculation ratio at a change rate that prevents abnormal combustion of the internal combustion engine.

An internal combustion engine includes an intake passage of the internal combustion engine, an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, and an EGR passage connecting the intake passage and the exhaust passage. A basic opening (A0) of an EGR control valve () is set, based on a current engine operation state. A differential pressure (&#x394;P1) across the EGR control valve () is calculated, based on an actual exhaust system temperature (T1) sensed by an exhaust temperature sensor (). A reference differential pressure (&#x394;P0) is calculated, which is a differential pressure across the EGR control valve () in a steady state corresponding to the current engine operation state. A reference pulsation amplitude (D) is calculated, which is an amplitude of pulsation of the reference differential pressure (&#x394;P0). The basic opening (A0) is corrected, based on the differential pressure (&#x394;P1), the reference differential pressure (&#x394;P0), and the reference pulsation amplitude (D).

Engine control method and control device

An internal combustion engine includes an intake passage of the internal combustion engine, an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, an EGR passage connecting the intake passage and the exhaust passage. The internal combustion engine further includes a throttle valve provided downstream of a connected part to the EGR passage in the intake passage, and configured to control a quantity of intake air flowing into the internal combustion engine, and an intake throttle valve provided upstream of the connected part to the EGR passage in the intake passage. A control device controls the internal combustion engine, in which device an opening degree of the intake throttle valve is determined on the basis of an intake air quantity.

In inline four cylinder internal combustion engine (), exhaust ports for a #cylinder and a #cylinder merge inside cylinder head () and form an opening serving as a single collective exhaust port. Exhaust manifold () has individual exhaust pipes () for #and #cylinders and collective exhaust pipe (), and the leading ends of these three exhaust pipes () are connected to catalytic converter (). Exhaust gas introduction angle (&#x3b8;) of each of individual exhaust pipes () is larger by 30-60 degrees than exhaust gas introduction angle (&#x3b8;) of collective exhaust pipe (). Consequently, flow velocity distribution and temperature distribution in a catalyst carrier become uniform.

Exhaust device for internal combustion engine

In an in-line four-cylinder internal combustion engine, exhaust ports () of cylinders #2 and #3 merge together inside a cylinder head and become open as one flat collective exhaust port (). An exhaust manifold () includes separate individual exhaust pipes () for cylinders #1 and #4 and a collective exhaust pipe () for cylinders #2 and #4. Tip ends of these three exhaust pipes are connected to a catalytic converter (). Exhaust device for four-cylinder internal combustion engine

Provided is an internal combustion engine including two intake valves for each cylinder, the internal combustion engine including: a fixed cam for driving one of the two intake valves with a lift characteristic having a valve opening timing close to a top dead center; a variable valve actuation mechanism capable of changing, in accordance with an engine running condition, lift characteristics between a low-lift characteristic having an event angle and a lift amount each being smaller than an event angle and a lift amount of the fixed cam, and a high-lift characteristic having the event angle and the lift amount each being larger than the event angle and the lift amount of the fixed cam; and a variable cam for driving another of the two intake valves, the variable cam including the variable valve actuation mechanism, in which the variable valve actuation mechanism is configured to set the lift characteristic of the variable cam so as to obtain a valve opening timing on a retard side relative to the valve opening timing of the fixed cam in a case of the low-lift characteristic.
