A casing includes half members coupled with each other. The half members in cooperation define an inner space for containing a storage device. A removable storage device unit is thus established. A guide surface is defined on the casing. The guide surface is related to a predetermined guide located on an enclosure defining an interior space for containing the casing. The guide surface serves to guide movement of the casing with respect to the enclosure. The removable storage device unit can easily be detached from the enclosure without disassembling the enclosure. The removable storage device unit can easily be carried. The user is allowed to utilize the single storage device common to a plurality of or various electronic apparatuses, for example. This enables a facilitated exchange of data between the electronic apparatuses.

Removable storage device unit

A carriage arm and a hard disk drive unit including the carriage arm, where the carriage arm includes a head slider mounting part and a voice coil attachment part integrally formed with each other by a metal plate being press punched so that the head slider mounting part and the voice coil attachment part are arranged opposite to each other with respect to a rotational axis of the carriage arm. Additionally, the head slider mounting part defines a first plane and the voice coil attachment part defines a second plane that is different from the first plane, and where the head slider mounting part and the voice coil attachment part are connected to each other by a bent portion.

Hard disk drive unit having a reduced size and cost

A housing includes a base plate and a metallic cover. The cover may be formed by deep-drawing. The housing accommodates, for example, a magnetic disk, a magnetic head, and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism serves to displace the magnetic head with respect to the magnetic disk. When the cover is coupled to the base plate, a screw is screwed, penetrating the cover, into the tip end of the carriage axis for supporting a carriage. Vibration caused by swinging movement of the carriage is transmitted to the cover through the screw. A vibration absorber adhered to the outer surface of the cover is adapted to absorb the transmitted vibration. Noise may be suppressed in the seek operation.

Recording disk apparatus

An actuator assembly including an actuator arm, a suspension fixed to a front end portion of the actuator arm, and a head slider mounted on a front end portion of the suspension and having a magnetoresistive element. The suspension has a pair of first lead lines each of which has one end connected to the magnetoresistive element, and an easily removable short-circuit pattern for connecting the first lead lines with each other. The actuator assembly further includes a main FPC fixed at one end portion thereof to the actuator arm, and an interconnection FPC having a plurality of second lead lines for interconnecting the first lead lines and a wiring pattern of the main FPC. The interconnection FPC further has a plurality of ground lines for electrically connecting the second lead lines to the actuator arm. In using the actuator assembly in a magnetic disk drive, the short-circuit pattern is fused and each ground line is cut.
