An improved fuel injection control system for an engine, wherein the fuel injectors are controlled during normal engine running by sensing engine running conditions. The engine is controlled in the lower ranges and under abnormal conditions by disabling one or more cylinders. On initial starting an enriched amount of fuel is supplied from the fuel injectors. This amount of enriched fuel is held for a predetermined time and then is gradually reduced to return to normal control even when there is cylinder disabling. The spark timing is also advanced well beyond the maximum normal spark advance during starting and is retarded to the normal spark timing after a predetermined time period.

Engine control system and method

A number of embodiments of lubricant pump and control systems for internal combustion engines, such as two-cycle engines, wherein the condition of the pump is compared with a control signal to the pump and if the conditions are not the same, a warning and protective action is initiated.

Engine lubricant supply control

A lubricant supply system for an engine provides lubricant from a supply to at least one portion of the engine. The system includes a lubricant pump and a pump control. The pump comprises a housing in which a solenoid operated pumping element and a portion of the pump control are positioned.

Engine lubricant supply system

A feedback control system and method for operating an internal combustion engine to provide the desired air/fuel ratio under all running conditions. The feedback control operates when the engine is operating at a mid-range rotational velocity and throttle position and when the air/fuel ratio is between about 15 and 16 to 1 to modify the fuel/air ratio from that achieved by a basic setting that is derived from parameters of engine performance so as to maintain the desired ratio. The basic setting is updated based upon previous feedback control corrections in order to minimize the amount of corrections required and reduce hunting.

Engine feedback control embodying learning

A feedback control system and method for operating an internal combustion engine to provide the desired air/fuel ratio under all running conditions. The feedback control operates to modify the fuel/air ratio from that achieved by a basic setting that is derived from parameters of engine performance so as to maintain the desired ratio. The basic setting is updated based upon previous feedback control corrections in order to minimize the amount of corrections required and reduce hunting.

A fuel induction system for an internal combustion engine which includes a throttle valve that is positioned substantially open under idle and near idle engine running conditions. The system includes means for disabling one or many of the cylinders in order to maintain a low engine rotational speed at idle and near idle and also means for selectively disabling the cylinders in such a manner as to provide the smoothest running engine possible in those instances where one or many of the engine's cylinders are disabled.

Multiple cylinder engine management system

An improved fuel injection control system for an engine embodying a plurality of fuel injectors, one for each cylinder. During normal engine running conditions, the amount of fuel injected is determined by engine running conditions and the injectors are operated sequentially in accordance with the engine firing order. For facilitating startup, the injectors are all operated simultaneously during the startup mode to supply a predetermined amount of fuel.
