Provided is a cutting edge position adjustment mechanism for moving a cutting edge member mounted on a tool body with respect to the tool body to adjust the position of a cutting edge. The cutting edge position adjustment mechanism is equipped with a shaft member that extends between the tool body and the cutting edge member and threadably engages with the tool body and a nut member that threadably engages with the shaft member and abuts against the cutting edge member; a first screw section that threadably engages with the tool body and a second screw section that threadably engages with the nut member are provided coaxially on the shaft member at different positions along the direction of an axis line of the shaft member; and the thread pitch of the first screw section and the thread pitch of the second screw section are different from each other.

The cutting insert is provided with a polygonal-shaped insert main body () having two polygonal surfaces () spaced away from each other and a plurality of side surfaces formed between these polygonal surfaces and also provided with cutting edges (A,B,C) formed as a rake face on a peripheral edge of a first side surface () among the plurality of side surfaces. In an improvement of a nozzle tip for a pipetting apparatus which is adapted to be removably attached to a nozzle base of the pipetting apparatus, the nozzle tip includes a head portion having an opening adapted to fit onto the nozzle base, a cylindrical portion extending downward from the head portion, a tip portion provided on the lower side of the cylindrical portion and having a tip opening for aspirating and dispensing a liquid, the tip portion having a diameter smaller than the diameter of the cylindrical portion, and a step portion formed between the cylindrical portion and the tip portion. A plurality of fins are integrally formed from the lower end portion of the cylindrical portion to the peripheral surface of the tip portion through the step portion with the same spacing in a circumferential direction for making the insertion of the nozzle tip into an upper opening of a target container smoothly and for structurally reinforcing the step portion.

Nozzle tip for pipetting apparatus

To enable a rotary cutter to correspond to an automatic tool exchange apparatus by adjusting, in a peripheral direction, the position of a positioning member in response to an outlet of a chip container and a key and a key seat for receiving the key of a rotary cutter and a machine tool. A chip container having an outlet is mounted on the peripheral area of a cutter body with a bearing therebetween. An arbor of the cutter body is connected to a machine tool such that a key fits into a key seat, and at the same time a positioning pin of the chip container is inserted into a fitting recess of a spindle head. A movable block ring having the positioning pin is mounted on the chip container after adjusting in a peripheral direction, and is fastened with a bolt. Even when a key of the machine tool and a fitting recess differ in a peripheral direction, they can be adjusted. The relative position in a peripheral direction between the outlet of the chip container and the positioning pin can be adjusted.

Rotary cutter having chip-repelling mechanism

First and second tips 4A and 4B are disposed on the outer periphery of the forward end of an end mill body 1 in a manner such that the tips 4A and 4B are displaced from each other about the periphery of the end mill body 1. The rotation loci of edges of the first and second tips 4A and 4B around the axis O of the end mill body 1 are mutually overlapped. The edge of the first tip 4A protrudes slightly farther toward the forward end of the end mill than the edge of the second tip 4B. Further, third tips 4C are disposed adjacent to the base end of the second tip 4B in such a manner that no gap is formed between the rotation locus of the edge of the third tip 4C located most adjacent to the forward end of the end mill body and the rotation locus of the rear end of the second tip 4B. As a consequence, the second tip 4B and the third tips 4C can be spirally disposed in the rearward rotating direction of the end mill as they extend toward the base end of the end mill. The respective tips 4, moreover, are formed of only one type having the same shape and dimensions. With this construction, the maintenance of tips can be remarkably simplified, and the wear of the tips, in particular, the wear of the first tip 4A, can be inhibited, thereby accomplishing a uniformity of the degree of the wear of the overall tips.

A disposable tip clamp mechanism capable of simplifying the mounting operation of a disposable cutting tip to produce an improved effect for preventing the dislocation of the tip is described. A screw member 36 having a screw hole 36a in the head 36c thereof is connected with the mounting screw hole 33 of a tip mounting seat 32, with the head portion 36c projecting from the tip mounting seat 32 and a disposable tip 37 is seated on the tip mounting seat 32 such that the engaging portion 37f thereof engages the head portion 36c of the screw hole-containing screw member 36.

The invention is designed to improve a cutting performance and a spiral chip discharging ability. Main cutting edges 16 and auxiliary cutting edges 18 are formed along the respective sides of an upper surface 14 of a negative throw-away tip 12 and along side of bevelled corners, respectively. A rake face 22 of each main cutting edge 16 is gradually inclined toward a lower surface of the tip 12 by an angle of inclination .beta. along the extension of the main cutting edge 16 away from its adjacent auxiliary cutting edge 18 and by a rake angle .alpha. (&gt;.beta.) along a direction perpendicular to the main cutting edge 16. The tip 12 is mounted on a cutter 9 as a rotatable cutting tool so as to discharge spiral chips during cutting. To this end, the tip 12 is mounted such that an axial rake angle, a corner angle, an angle of inclination, and a true rake angle are set in a range of -4.degree. to -10.degree., a range of 25.degree. to 60.degree., a range of 0.degree. or larger, and a range of -20.degree. to -5.degree., respectively.

Throw-away tip and throw-away type cutter

A cutting insert having a generally polygonal tabular form, includes a main cutting edge formed along at least one of the ridges or edges of the upper and lower surfaces which oppose each other in the direction of the thickness of the tabular form, and a face connected to the main cutting edge is formed on the flank or flanks which surround and define the upper and lower surfaces. The face includes a convex curved surface and an angle of intersection between the convex curved surface and one of the upper and lower surfaces progressively changes. The angle of intersection between the convex curved surface and one of the upper and lower surfaces progressively increases or decreases along the length of the face from the face end adjacent to a free end of the tool to a face end adjacent to the base end of the tool. In a preferred embodiment, a flat surface is disposed on each side of the convex curved surface and each flat surface intersects one of the upper and lower surfaces at a constant angle. The flat surface adjacent to the face end adjacent to the free end of the tool intersects with one of the upper and lower surfaces at an angle which is greater or smaller than the angle of intersection between the flat surface adjacent to the face end adjacent to the base end of the tool and one of the upper and lower surfaces of the cutting insert.

A cutting insert wherein cutting edges are formed on a pair of ridge portions of an upper surface and a pair of ridge portions on a lower surface in a staggered position relative to the ridge portions of the upper surface in a direction along the peripheries of the upper and lower surfaces. Rakes are formed on side surfaces of the insert body connecting to the cutting edges. Each rake has an inclination such as to be closer to a center of the upper or lower surface at a position remoter from the corresponding cutting edge. Each rake is formed of a curved surface which is formed along the side connecting to the cutting edge and which is curved along the peripheral direction so as to round out in an outward direction from the insert body, and a flat surface which obtusely intersects the curved surface and connect to a ridge portion opposite from the cutting edge formed along on the side of the rake. The positions and the shapes of the curved surface portions and the cutting edges are determined on the basis of the flat surfaces and the upper and lower surfaces. The insert can be prevented from shifting and the working accuracy can be improved by accurately forming the cutting edges and other portions.

A cutting tool is disclosed which includes a tool body having a mounting portion to be secured to a machine tool and having a plurality of insert receiving recesses formed therein. A plurality of cutting inserts are releasably attached to the insert receiving recesses, respectively. The tool body has a nitrided hard layer formed on a surface thereof. Furthermore, a clamp member used in the tool preferably has an abutment surface to be held in abutting contact with the insert or other parts and a chip-contacting surface with which cutting chips produced during cutting operation are brought into contact. The chip-contacting surface is defined by a nitriding hard layer formed on a precision-cast unglazed surface, and has a surface which is left without finish-working. Furthermore, a method for producing a cutting tool which includes a tapped hole formed therein and having an inner surface defining an unnitrided portion is disclosed. In this method, a plug is first threaded into the tapped hole. Subsequently, the tool body is subjected to nitriding treatment to form a hard layer on the surface of the tool body, and the plug is subsequently removed from the tool body.

Method for manufacturing a cutter

A cutting insert has a polygonal plate-like insert body defined by a front face, a back face, and a plurality of side faces lying between the front and back faces. A nose portion is defined by one of the corners of the front face. At least one cutting edge extends immediately from the nose portion. The cutting edge is defined by one of a pair of intersections of the front face with an adjacent pair of side faces sandwiching the nose portion therebetween. The front face includes an inclined surface sloping toward the back face in a direction away from the nose portion, causing each of the pair of intersections to incline toward the back face in a direction away from the nose portion. A breaker is formed on the inclined surface along the intersection of the inclined surface with a side face. The breaker has an inner surface for defining a rake surface portion more positively inclined to the corresponding cutting edge than that defined by the other area of the front face. The front face may be of a tetragonal shape with a pair of inclined surfaces that impart a V-shaped contour when viewed along a diagonal line interconnecting the corners of the front face other than those defining a diagonally-opposite pair of nose portions. A breaker on such an inclined surface may have a trough line inclined to a corresponding cutting edge. The insert body includes side faces each sloping along the thickness of the insert body at different angles between various regions of the side face, these regions corresponding to various locations of the front face where there are or are not inclined surfaces and where there are or are not corresponding cutting edges.
