This positive electrode has a positive electrode collector and a positive electrode mixture layer formed on the surface of the positive electrode collector. The positive electrode mixture layer contains a lithium transition metal composite oxide containing 85 mol % or more of Ni and 1-15 mol % inclusive of Al relative to the total number of moles of metal elements other than Li, and in which the total amount of Ni, Al, and Mn contained is 99.9 mol % or more. The density of the positive electrode active material in the positive electrode mixture layer is 3.45 g/cmor higher. In an observation of a cross-section of the positive electrode using a scanning electron microscope, the proportion of the cross-section area of the lithium transition metal composite oxide devoid of cracks relative to the cross-section area of the lithium transition metal composite oxide exposed on the cross-section is 51% or higher.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

This positive electrode active material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprises: lithium transition metal oxide particles; a metal compound which contains a metal element M and adheres to the surfaces of the lithium transition metal oxide particles; and a lithium metal compound which contains lithium (Li) and the metal element M and adheres to the surfaces of the lithium transition metal oxide particles. In this connection, the metal element M is composed of at least one substance that is selected from among aluminum (Al), titanium (Ti), manganese (Mn), gallium (Ga), molybdenum (Mo), tin (Sn), tungsten (W) and bismuth (Bi).

The method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a first step for adding an alkaline solution having a tungsten compound dissolved therein to a lithium-metal composite oxide powder represented by general formula LiNiCoMO(where 0&#x2264;x&#x2264;0.1, 0&#x2264;y&#x2264;0.1, and 0.97&#x2264;z&#x2264;1.20 are satisfied, and M is at least one type of element selected from among Mn, W, Mg, Mo, Nb, Ti, Si, and Al), and mixing same; and a second step for heating the mixture of the alkaline solution and the lithium-metal composite oxide powder at 100-600&#xb0; C., wherein the amount of the alkaline solution to be added in the first step is 0.1-10 mass % with respect to the amount of the lithium-metal composite oxide powder.

Method for manufacturing positive electrode active material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A positive electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery contains a first particle and a second particle. The first particle contains an electrochemically active positive-electrode active material, and the positive-electrode active material contains a lithium transition metal oxide. The second particle contains an electrochemically inactive metal oxide. An electrochemically inactive phosphate adheres to the surface of the second particle.

Positive electrode for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A positive electrode active material which predominantly includes lithium transition metal composite oxide particles containing Ni and Al, and which has a low charge transfer resistance and thus allows the battery capacity to be increased. The composite oxide particles contain 5 mol % or more Al relative to the total molar amount of metal elements except Li, include a particle core portion and an Al rich region on or near the surface of the composite oxide particle wherein the Al concentration in the particle core portion is not less than 3 mol % and the Al concentration in the Al rich region is 1.3 times or more greater than the Al concentration in the particle core portion. The composite oxide particles contain 0.04 mol % or more sulfate ions relative to the total molar amount of the particles.

An average thickness Tof the third region and a thickness TL of the anode lead satisfy a relationship T&#x3c;TL. A surface of the anode lead is in contact with at least one of the first region and the second region.
