Provided are a nitrogen-containing aromatic compound useful for an organic electroluminescent device, and an organic electroluminescent device (organic EL device) that improves luminous efficiency of the device and sufficiently ensures driving stability of the device. The nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound is represented by the following formula (1). The organic EL device includes an organic layer that contains the nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound between an anode and a cathode laminated on a substrate. In the formula (1), a ring A represents an aromatic ring represented by the formula (1a) and fused with two adjacent rings, a ring B represents a heterocycle represented by the formula (1b) and fused with two adjacent rings, Y's each represent C&#x2014;R or N, X's each represent N&#x2014;Z, O, S, or Se, R represents hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aromatic group, or the like, and Z represents an alkyl group, an aromatic group, or the like. 

Nitrogen-containing aromatic compounds and organic electroluminescent device

Provided is an organic electroluminescent device (EL device) that uses an indolocarbazole compound. The organic EL device includes an anode, a plurality of organic layers including a phosphorescent light-emitting layer, and a cathode laminated on a substrate, in which at least one organic layer selected from the phosphorescent light-emitting layer, a hole-transporting layer, an electron-transporting layer, and a hole-blocking layer contains an indolocarbazole compound represented by the general formula (1). In the general formula (1), a ring I and a ring II represent rings represented by the formula (1a) and the formula (1b), respectively, each of which are fused to an adjacent ring. X's each represent nitrogen or C&#x2014;Y and at least one of X's represents nitrogen. Y's each represent hydrogen, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aromatic group. A represents an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, or an aromatic group. At least one of Y and A represents an alkyl group or a cycloalkyl group. R's each represent hydrogen, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group, or an aromatic heterocyclic group.

Organic electroluminescent element

Disclosed is a polymer light-emitting material for an organic electroluminescent device that displays excellent light-emitting performance and is applicable to a wet process. The polymer light-emitting material for an organic electroluminescent device is obtained by subjecting a thermoplastic resin having an Mw of 2,000-1,000,000 and containing a functional group in a unit constituting the backbone and a metal-containing phosphorescent dopant compound containing a reactive group capable of reacting with the said functional group to a polymer reaction so as to link a phosphorescent dopant moiety derived from the metal-containing phosphorescent dopant compound to the unit constituting the backbone of the thermoplastic resin. The content of the metal derived from the metal containing phosphorescent dopant compound in the said polymer light-emitting material is 0.001-20 wt %.

Polymer light-emitting material, method for producing the same, and organic electroluminescent device

Provided are a polymer for an organic electroluminescent element, which improves light emission efficiency of the element and is applicable to a wet process, and an organic electroluminescent element, which is obtained using the polymer. The polymer for an organic electroluminescent element includes a repeating unit represented by the following general formula (1) in a repeating unit constituting a main chain. Further, the organic electroluminescent element includes organic layers between an anode and a cathode laminated on a substrate, in which at least one of the organic layers includes the polymer for an organic electroluminescent element, including an indolocarbazole skeleton in the repeating unit constituting a main chain. In the general formula (1), Z represents an N-indolocarbazolyl group, W represents a charge transporting group, m and n represent molar ratios, m represents 0 to 95 mol %, and n represents 5 to 100 mol.
