A control system realizes a playback function by playing back stream data read out from a medium by using a decoder. When special playback functions corresponding to pause, fast forward, and rewind are to be performed, the control system moves a read start pointer to the head of a data block constructing a data format, and sets as a restart position of a playback operation.

Digital recording/playback apparatus

A converter for television signals formed of a television signal converter, a selection position changer and a position display. The television signal converter converts a first television signal corresponding to a selected portion of a picture of a first television system to a second television signal of a second television system so that the selected portion of the picture of the first television system fills the entire screen of the second television system. The aspect ratios of the first and second television system are different. The selection position changer changes the position of the selected portion of the picture of the first television system. The position display displays information about the position of the selected portion of the picture of the first television system.

Television signal converter for converting high definition television

A high-definition signal is band-compressed and is supplied to a simple MUSE processor. The simple MUSE processor generates a simple high-definition television signal. A scanning line processor converts said simple high-definition television signal into an interlaced scanning signal with less scanning lines than the television signal of the present system. The television signal output from the scanning line processor is converted into an analog signal. Two color difference signals, are input to a quadrature modulator which uses a sub-carrier that follows a clock synchronized with the sampling pulse of the high-definition television signal, and is obtained from a synch regenerator. The clock is then input to a phase-locked loop circuit which generates the color sub-carrier, which is phase-synchronized with the clock, and supplies the color sub-carrier to the quadrature modulator. Therefore, the field frequency of the input television signal can be set to invert every frame so long as the field frequency of the input television signal is maintained. The frequency of the color sub-carrier can be draw-in range of a color processor of NTSC system.

High-definition television signal converter

According to the present invention, in a simple MUSE processing circuit, a high-definition television signal, which is band-compressed by an offset subsampling circulating in a field, is converted into a simple high Definition television signal, which is not a complete high Definition television signal, by superposing fields which are fewer than fields n. In a scanning line processing device, the simple high Definition television signal is converted into a first sequential scanning signal with at least the same number of scanning lines as the television signal in the present system. The first sequential scanning signal obtained by the scanning line processing device can be used as a Extended Definition television signal as it is. Television signal converter for converting a high definition television

Current television signals are converted into sequential scanning signals in a sequential scanning conversion circuit and supplied to a memory circuit. In the memory circuit, the sequential scanning signals are converted into interlaced scanning signals, and then the signals are time-compressed and converted into small screen signals. High-definition television signals decoded by a MUSE decoder are supplied to a selector as master screen signals. In the selector, the master and slave screen signals are selectively produced to form a picture-in-picture signal.
