An information providing systemaccording to an embodiment of the present invention includes an acoustic signal transmitterfor transmitting data in the form of sound waves, a portable telephoneserving as an acoustic signal receiver (terminal) for receiving the sound waves and reproducing the data, and a serverconnected through the Internetto the acoustic signal transmitter. The acoustic signal transmittermay transmit the data as sound waves in one-way fashion at a timing determined by the acoustic signal transmitterwithout reliance on transmission control signals or the like received from the acoustic signal receiver. The data which is transmitted as sound waves may employ data frame(s) which may contain information for error detection.

Information providing system

An authentication systemthat uses sound to transmit one-time password(s) may be equipped with portable terminal(s), authentication terminal(s), and authentication server(s). Portable terminalmay be equipped with password generating unit(s)which encrypt information including password generation user identifier(s) issued by authentication server(s)and generate one-time password(s), encoding unit(s)which encode one-time password(s) and generate baseband signal(s), carrier wave generating unit(s)which generate carrier wave(s) in audible band(s), modulating unit(s)which use baseband signal(s) to modulate carrier wave(s) and generate modulated signal(s), and speaker(s)which transmit modulated signal(s) in the form of sound wave(s). One-time password(s) may be input as sound wave(s) from portable terminal(s)to authentication terminal(s)

Authentication system and authentication method

Where information is to be conveyed as acoustic waves, embodiments of the present invention provide a transmitter capable of causing acoustic waves that convey information to be not easily perceived by the human ear. A transmitter, being an apparatus that converts various types of encoded information into acoustic wave(s) in the audible spectrum and carries out transmission thereof, comprises microphone(s) that cause ambient sound(s) from location(s) at which acoustic wave(s) is/are transmitted to be input as ambient sound signal(s); peak frequency detector(s) that detect, within ambient sound signal(s), peak frequency or frequencies of major constituent(s) of ambient sound(s); carrier wave generator(s) that generate carrier waves at a plurality of frequencies that are natural number multiples of peak frequency or frequencies and that can be used to mask ambient sound(s); and modulator(s) that modulate a plurality of carrier waves with baseband signal(s).
