A straddle type vehicle comprises: a detection unit configured to detect a situation of a detection area on one of a rear side and a lateral side of a self-vehicle; a distance determination unit configured to determine a change in a relative distance between the self-vehicle and another vehicle detected in the detection area and a notification control unit configured to make a notification to a driver based on one of a detection result of the detection unit and a determination result of the distance determination unit. The notification control unit makes the notification by first notification output if the other vehicle is detected in the detection area by the detection unit, and makes the notification by second notification output if it is determined by the distance determination unit that the relative distance to the other vehicle has become short.

An image display apparatus includes a microprocessor configured to perform determining whether a position of a first device is a predetermined position, and controlling image displays on a first display portion provided at the first device and a second display portion provided at a second device in accordance with a determination result. The microprocessor is configured to perform the controlling including controlling image displays on the first display portion and the second display portion so that a predetermined image is displayed on the first display portion before it is determined that the first device is the predetermined position, and the predetermined image is displayed while gradually moving over time from the first display portion to the second display portion when it is determined that the first device is the predetermined position.

An accelerator position detection device includes a handlebar grip that is turnable in a normal rotation direction and in a reverse rotation direction from a neutral position and is energized to the neutral position when no operation is applied; accelerator position sensors that output voltage according to an angle of the handlebar grip and that include a first sensor and a second sensor; and a detector that detects an angle for control for controlling a vehicle on the basis of the angle of the handlebar grip according to output from the accelerator position sensors. The detector detects an angle as a positive value on the basis of a first voltage when the first voltage in a rising range is output, and the detector detects an angle as a negative value on the basis of a second voltage when a first initial value not located in the rising range is output.

Accelerator position detection device with improved abnormal detection

A straddle type vehicle includes a side mirror with which a rider confirms a rear side; a detection unit configured to detect another vehicle in a periphery of a self-vehicle; and a display unit configured to display a detection result by the detection unit. The display unit displays the detection result at a position within a contour of the side mirror and on an inner side in a vehicle width direction. In a case in which the another vehicle is detected by the detection unit, the display unit displays a color different from a display color of the detection result in a peripheral portion of a display region of the detection result.

Motor output setting means is provided which changes an output of a motor in accordance with a detection value of position detection means when a screen is driven in a downward direction. The motor output setting means changes the output of the motor in response to the screen reaching a first intermediate position and a second intermediate position between an uppermost position and a lowermost position of the screen. When the screen reaches the second intermediate position, the motor output setting means drives the motor by using a limited output obtained by adding a predetermined addable output to a minimum output for driving required for driving the screen in the downward direction. Such screen control device is aimed at optimization of motor output taking into consideration the catching (clamping) of foreign matter.

A power transmission device for a vehicle includes a control unit adapted to automatically control engagement or disengagement of a clutch, and is further equipped with a clutch lever for manually engaging or disengaging the clutch. The power transmission device includes a manual mode in which the clutch is engaged or disengaged by a driver performing an engagement or disengagement operation with the clutch engagement/disengagement operating element and an automatic mode in which the clutch is engaged or disengaged under the control of the control unit without the driver performing the engagement or disengagement operation. The manual mode or the automatic mode is selectable by the driver. In the manual mode, it is further possible to select a plurality of control modes with differing levels of intervention of the automatic control.

A driving force control device for saddled vehicle includes a transmission that transmits driving force of an engine to a driving wheel of a vehicle at predetermined reduction ratio; a clutch that connects/disconnects the driving force between the engine and the transmission; and a controller that controls the transmission and the clutch. The controller permits selection of a normal mode in which the reduction ratio of the transmission is varied according to a running condition and a slow mode permitting slow forward movement and slow backward movement by varying the reduction ratio of the transmission to a fixed reduction ratio according to predetermined operation, and the controller holds the clutch in a partial clutch engagement condition so as to prevent the vehicle from moving forward or backward when the slow mode is selected and no predetermined operation is performed.

A display device also includes an available amount-of-fuel calculator for calculating an available amount of fuel, an average mileage calculator for calculating an average mileage from a consumed amount of fuel and a vehicle's traveled distance, an available travel distance calculator for calculating an available travel distance from the available amount of fuel and the average mileage, and a display unit for displaying the available travel distance. The available amount-of-fuel calculator uses a learned value based on outputs as a corrective value for correcting the output of a second sensor when the calculation of the available amount of fuel switches from being based on the output of the second sensor to being based on the output of a first sensor.

A vehicle driving force control device controls a driving force of an engine in accordance with an operation of a handlebar grip attached to a motorcycle. The handlebar grip is nonrotatably secured to a handlebar of the motorcycle. The vehicle driving force control device includes a strain gauge and a control section. The strain gauge acts as twisting force detection means for detecting a twisting force that is oriented in a normal rotation direction or in a reverse rotation direction and applied to the handlebar grip. The control section controls the driving force in accordance with the detected twisting force. The control section exercises control to increase the driving force in accordance with the twisting force oriented in the normal rotation direction.

A remaining fuel amount warning device for a vehicle, the remaining fuel amount warning device giving a warning that an amount of fuel remaining in a fuel tank is smaller than a predetermined value on the basis of output of a fuel gauge measuring the remaining fuel amount, includes combustion state changing device for changing the combustion state of an engine. When the remaining fuel amount becomes smaller than the predetermined value, the remaining fuel amount warning device performs remaining amount warning control that produces vibration different than during normal operation by changing the combustion state of the engine by the combustion state changing device. A starter switch for starting the engine is made to serve also as a warning acknowledging button for stopping the remaining amount warning control for a predetermined time on the basis of an operation by an occupant.

To show an image with minimal sense of discomfort felt by an occupant without quickening an updating cycle of an on-screen image, a virtual data generator making up a vehicle meter indicator device generates virtual data based on an arbitrary engine rotation speed between an engine rotation speed proportional to an image currently shown on a liquid crystal display device and a latest engine rotation speed rather than display data based on the latest engine rotation speed immediately before updating if the engine rotation speed declines. This allows the liquid crystal display device to show the generated virtual data on a liquid crystal panel as a virtual image for updating.

An approach notification device of a straddle type vehicle which can effectively notify a rider of an approaching state of an obstacle, the device including an obstacle detection device for detecting an obstacle located around a motorcycle as an vehicle, an approach determination device for detecting an approaching state that the obstacle is located within a predetermined distance from the vehicle, and a winker operation resistance increasing device for increasing operation resistance of a winker manipulator of a winker device provided in the vehicle. When the obstacle is determined to be within the predetermined distance by the approach determination device and the operation of the winker manipulator in the direction of the obstacle is detected, the winker operation resistance increasing device is operated to increase the operation resistance of the winker manipulator and vibrators located in a steering handle and a fuel tank are operated.

Approach notification device of straddle type vehicle

A shift position detecting device where a shift position determining member is provided for determining a shift position based on a combination of switching modes of three switches corresponding to at least one of a plurality of projection rows each having a plurality of projection portions in a one-by-one basis, and '1, 1, 1' indicative of an ON state of each switch is allocated as a detection logic at a neutral position arranged between a first speed position and a second speed position, wherein a change in friction at the time of a shift operational to the neutral position is alleviated thus giving an operational feeling with no discomfort to a rider. Two projection rows that are objects to be detected by two specified switches among the three switches are formed so as to change switching modes of the specified switches from an OFF state to an ON state.

Shift position detecting device

A motorcycle includes liquid crystal display device with a liquid crystal panel and a back light source, a main controller which receives predetermined inputs pertaining to a current operating state of the vehicle or to a rider's intended operations of the vehicle, and a sub-controller for controlling the back light source. The sub-controller is configured to switch the back light source from a normal output state to a low output state if none of the predetermined inputs are inputted to the main controller for at least a predetermined time period, and to switch the back light source back to the normal output state if at least one of the predetermined inputs is inputted to the main controller when the back light source is in the low output state. The predetermined inputs correspond to the rider's operation of control members of the saddle type vehicle when riding.
