Provided herein is a scrap melting method capable of both producing a molten iron by efficiently melting scrap and producing a large amount of high calorie exhaust gas having a high utility value as a fuel gas and at the same time capable of performing such operation at a low production cost. Scrap, the source of iron, and coke are charged into a shaft furnace and pulverized coal and oxygen are injected into the furnace from a burner provided at the tuyere portion; in such injection of the pulverized coal and oxygen, the pulverized coal is injected from the center or in the vicinity thereof in diametrical direction of the burner and the oxygen is injected from the surrounding portion thereof to mix the two, thereby rapidly burning the pulverized coal in a combustion zone formed beyond the tuyere; and the scrap is melted by the sensible heat of thus generated combustion gas to produce a molten iron and the combustion gas is collected as a fuel gas without causing a significant post combustion of the combustion gas.

Scrap melting method

In a method of producing dimethyl ether from a mixed gas containing carbon monoxide and either or both of hydrogen and water vapor or a mixed gas of them further containing carbon dioxide, the improvement which comprises using a mixed catalyst prepared by pulverizing a mixed catalyst containing at least zinc oxide, copper oxide or chromium oxide, and aluminum oxide, compressing to bind them by a high pressure press and then pulverizing again or a mixed catalyst comprising at least zinc oxide, copper oxide and alumina, in a slurry state formed by suspending in a solvent. In the method of the invention, the yield of dimethyl ether is high, and the conversion water produced through reaction to hydrogen is high. There is no problem of clogging with catalyst, and mechanical strength is not required. Besides, the applicable range of the ratio of carbon monoxide and hydrogen is wide and the reaction is possible in the presence of carbon dioxide in a high concentration. Moreover, affects by impurities and catalyst poisons are small.

A simultaneous multiple points sounding apparatus, comprising a plurality of weights to be suspended on burden charged in a furnace, a plurality of wire ropes attached to the weights with their one ends and extending at their other ends outside of the furnace, and a plurality of wire drums installed outside of the furnace on which the wire ropes are coiled, and a single driving device on which a plurality of wire drums are communicated, wherein the plurality of wire ropes are disposed on pulleys which travel downward when the respective weights reach the burden, thereby lessening the tension on the respective wire rope, and detectors are disposed for detecting the downward movement of the respective pulleys.
