In a data processor and a shading apparatus used in the data processor, the data processor selects an address based on the information of a memory or a translation look-aside buffer. Therefore, even when the same data are accessed, a different address at high speed is adopted according to the hardware, object to be processed, processing, etc. A plurality of geometric vectors are given as the parameters for the vertexes of a picture, the vectors are interpolated in the picture, and the luminance of each small area in the figure is calculated using the vectors generated by the interpolation. Therefore, a spotlight or highlight can be expressed with high accuracy and at high speed even when the amount of the hardware and the extent of the picture are small.

A slave controller formed on a single semiconductor substrate executes a built in control algorithm in response to a command supplied from a master controller. Upon completion of command execution, the controls respond to predetermined information contained within the command by branching internal control operation in accordance with the new command. Once the internal state has been changed over, the slave controller sends an instruction to the master controller.

Even if transfer source graphic data lies across two consecutive words, the processor fetches the source data in single reading, processes the data word-wise at once, and stores the result in the display memory.

A font processing system includes font pattern storage for defining a font pattern and font pattern access parameter storage for storing parameters for making access to the font pattern storage. Address calculation is made on the basis of the font pattern access parameter and a pattern code supplied from outside to indicate a font pattern. The font pattern processing system includes a pattern drawing attribute indicator for indicating the attributes of pattern drawing by the font pattern data thus read out. The present invention processes predetermined font data at a high speed inside a font data processor on the basis of the pattern code and can easily accomplish diversification of font patterns.

A color graphic display system is disclosed including a drawing process for displaying video data on a display device wherein the data is particularly intended to include superposed pictures. The processor includes an arithmetical operation unit which will allow addition/subtraction of video data items representative of the picture elements to be superposed. Further included is a condition setting circuit for selectively inhibiting carrys or borrows during the arithmetical operations between selected bits of a data word representative of an element such as a pixel of the picture being displayed. More particularly, where a video data item is comprised of sets of bits each set of which is representative of a main color of the pixel, and when two video data items are added or subtracted, the carrys that may normally occur between the different sets are inhibited to avoid interference between the sets that may affect the color of the resulting video data item. A carry look-ahead circuit is also provided for improved processing speed of the system. An overflow prevention circuit is disclosed for forcibly switching selected bits of the video data item to a preselected value upon determining that an operated result has given rise to an overflow.
