An imaging apparatus comprises: a color separation optical system for separating an image ray into blue, green, and red image rays, image sensors, having pixels vertically and horizontally arranged, for receiving the image rays and producing blue, red, and green signals wherein at least one of image sensors for blue and red signals has a vertical relative offset against the image sensor for green signal to have a relative interlace relation with the image sensor for blue or red color signal, to produce a screen to be produced, having a higher resolution than these image sensors. A vertical high frequency component is operated from the blue and red signals and is added to the green color signal to produce a second green signal indicative of a green luminance value at a position corresponding to each pixel of the image sensors for blue and red color signals to increase the vertical resolution of the screen. A fourth image sensor for green and a separation optical system for the fourth image sensor may be provided to increase a horizontal resolution by arranging the fourth image sensor to have a horizontal offset to have a second relative interlace relation with the image sensor for green. A solid-state color imaging apparatus including first and second CDs for outputting electric signals in response to incident lights thereon and a prism for separating to green and red, blue lights a light incident thereon which includes optical information corresponding to an object viewed by the solid-state color imaging apparatus. In front of the first and second CCDs are provided first and second color filters whereby the separated green light is introduced through the first color filter into the first CCD and the separated red and blue light is introduced through the second color filter into the second CCD. Solid-state color imaging apparatus

An automatic focusing apparatus having a focusing lens system and an image pickup device for converting a light beam incident thereon into the corresponding electrical signal. The automatic focusing apparatus is arranged so that focusing is performed in accordance with the focus voltage obtained from a predetermined high-frequency component of the electrical signal, on the basis of the fact that the level of the focus voltage corresponds to the sharpness of the resultant image. The focus voltage is successively compared with each of a plurality of reference voltages predetermined to be increased in steps. The focusing lens system is controlled in position in accordance with a comparison between the first reference voltage agreeing with one of the focus voltages and the second reference voltage agreeing with another focus voltage so that the focusing lens system approaches the focus position. When the first and second reference voltages are equal in level to each other, the focusing lens system is controlled to take the middle point between the position corresponding to the first and second reference voltages.

A video camera comprises a camera tube, a main optical system including a focusing lens, an afocal system, and a master lens, for directing external light towards the camera tube, an automatic focusing system having a sensor which obtains a focusing information responsive to an incoming light to the sensor, for carrying out an automatic focusing by displacing the focusing lens responsive to the focusing information, a first light separator for reflecting and separating a portion of light passing through the afocal system within the main optical system, a second light separator for reflecting and separating only a portion of the separated light which is separated by the first separator and is required for a detection of the sensor of the automatic focusing system, and for directing the separated light which is separated by the second light separator towards the sensor as the incoming light, and an optical type viewfinder for receiving a light portion which is among the separated light which is separated by the first separator and excludes the separated light which is separated by the second separator.

An optical low-pass filter is used in a television camera which has an optical system including an iris and a color stripe filter. The optical low-pass filter comprises a base plate, and a plurality of bi-prisms respectively formed on at least one surface of the base plate, and extending parallel with respect to one direction, where the plurality of bi-prisms are arranged at a pitch which is smaller than the diameter of a minimum aperture used of the iris.

A television camera has an optical system including an iris, a master lens, and a color stripe filter. The television camera further comprises an optical lowpass filter provided within an effective light path of an afocal system which reaches the master lens through the iris. The image of a subject imaged on the photoelectric conversion surface of a pickup tube of the color television camera is defocused in a given direction by a given amount to make a blur so that beat interference due to specific black and white pattern of the subject does not occur in the reproduced picture. In first and second embodiments of the present invention, at least one optical filter having specific characteristics is employed for defocusing the image, while in a third embodiment, an aperture stop is used to defocus the image by utilizing the aberration of the lens system of the color television camera. The aperture stop of the third embodiment may be used together with the optical filter(s) of the first and second embodiments.

A color television camera has a camera tube for receiving incident light from an image pickup object. It produces output signals representing an image of the object. The signal level varies in accordance with the incident light quantity assuming a constant target voltage. The system disposes of excessive incident light quantity. A control circuit lowers the voltage impressed on the target of the camera tube and controls the output signal level of the camera tube at a constant value, when the incident light quantity to the camera tube becomes excessive and exceeds a first predetermined light quantity. An indicator indicates when the incident light quantity to the camera tube becomes excessive, exceeding a second predetermined light quantity which is greater than the first predetermined light quantity. The resulting pickup picture deteriorates when the light exceeds a practical allowable limit despite the operation of the control circuit. An iris mechanism is manually operable to reduce the incident light quantity when the indicator indicates that the incident light quantity is in excess of the second predetermined light quantity.

A dark current correction circuit in a two-tube color camera having first and second camera tubes respectively for chrominance signals and luminance signals comprises a circuit for applying to the first camera tube a target voltage in accordance with temperature variation in the image pickup surface thereof, a circuit provided in the picked-up output signal system of the first camera tube and operating to compensate or cancel a dark current component within the picked-up output signal, a circuit for applying to the second camera tube a target voltage in accordance with temperature variation in the image pickup surface thereof, and a circuit for mixing with the picked-up output luminance signal of the second camera tube a horizontal blanking pulse at a level in accordance with the temperature variation in the image pickup surface of that camera tube. The level controlled horizontal blanking pulse, upon being applied to the picked-up output luminance signal, effects correction of a dark current variation component within the luminance signal due to temperature variation in the image pickup surface of the camera tube and for a dark current variation component due to variation of the target voltage.
