A method for manufacturing a high frequency cable that includes covering a central conductor made from aluminum or an aluminum alloy with a covering layer made from copper; and wire drawing of the central conductor covered by the covering layer using dies at multiple steps, each of the dies having a cross-section reduction rate of 20% to 29% with an entire reduction angle of 16 degrees, to form a fiber-like structure in a longitudinal direction in the covering layer, and to form an intermetallic compound layer having greater volume resistivity than the covering layer between the central conductor and the covering layer.

An insulation degradation diagnostic device () comprises a current transformer (), a first amplifier (), a first high-pass filter (), a low-pass filter (), a second amplifier (), a second high-pass filter (), and a discharge judgement section (). The current transformer () has a filtering function, with an amount of attenuation of &#x2212;60 dB or less and a slope characteristic of &#x2212;5 dB/oct or less at a commercial frequency and detects a current flowing through a grounding conductor (). The first amplifier () amplifies a current signal from the current transformer (). The first high-pass filter () removes a low frequency component from an amplified current signal. The low-pass filter () removes a high frequency component from a current signal from which the low frequency component has been removed. The second amplifier () amplifies a current signal from the low-pass filter () to a predetermined level. The second high-pass filter () extracts a signal corresponding to a discharge current caused by a partial discharge from the current signal amplified in the second amplifier (). The discharge judgement section () judges whether or not a partial discharge has occurred in a cable () based on the signal extracted in the second high-pass filter ().

A flame-retardant resin composition, which has a high flame retardancy equivalent to that of PVCs and can be separated from PVCs by a difference in specific gravity, is obtained by adding not less than 5 parts by weight and less than 50 parts by weight of a hydrated inorganic compound and not less than 1 part by weight and not more than 55 parts by weight of an auxiliary flame retardant having an action of forming a char-like thermally insulating layer on combustion and/or an action of foaming at high temperature thereby to entrap water vapor in a polyolefine resin so that the resulting flame-retardant resin composition has a specific gravity of 1.14 or less and an oxygen index of 24 or more.

A composite power cable includes an elongated cable core having an electrical conductor and a shield layer of a semiconductive material. The cable includes an outer sheath of a first thermoplastic resin encompassing the cable core. A plurality of concentric neutral wires are embedded in the outer sheath and helically wound around the cable core. At least one elongated flexible optical fiber unit is embedded in the outer sheath and helically wound around the cable core so as to extend along the neutral wires. The fiber unit includes an elongated body of a second thermoplastic resin extending longitudinally thereof, at least one flexible tube embedded in the body to extend longitudinally thereof, at least one optical fiber loosely received in the tube to extend longitudinally thereof and at least one elongated tension member embedded in the body to extend longitudinally thereof. The second thermoplastic resin is different from the first thermoplastic resin and has non-adhesive property with respect to the first thermoplastic resin.
