A rotary compressor includes a compression mechanism having a cylinder, a piston, and a Helmholtz muffler. The Helmholtz muffler has a resonance chamber in the compression mechanism and a communication groove formed on an end face of the cylinder to connect the cylinder and resonance chambers. The communication groove is open at the end face of the cylinder and has a pair of side wall portions and a bottom wall portion between the side wall portions. Each side wall portion has a first portion adjacent an open end of the communication groove and a second portion adjacent the bottom wall portion. A surface of the first portion is a flat or bowed surface. A surface of the second portion is a bowed surface having a predetermined curvature so as to be connected to the surface of the first portion and a surface of the bottom wall portion.

Muffler for a compression mechanism of a rotary compressor

A compressor includes a compression mechanism to compress gas and discharge compressed gas, an electric motor to drive the compression mechanism, a casing housing the compression mechanism and the electric motor, a suction pipe connected to a suction side of the compression mechanism via the casing, and a discharge pipe provided at the casing to open in a space in the casing. The space has a first space located below the motor, and a second space located above the motor. The compression mechanism is disposed in the first space. The compressor is provided with a partition plate disposed in the second space, and the having a gas passage hole. The partition plate further has an oil drain hole formed at a lower level than an open end of the gas passage hole, and located radially outside an outer peripheral surface of a rotor of the electric motor.

An object of the present invention is to provide a retardation film excellent in various properties such as optical properties, heat resistance, mechanical properties, and reliability. The present invention relates to a retardation film containing a thermoplastic resin and composed of a single layer, in which the retardation film has a value of wavelength dispersion that is a ratio of retardations at a wavelength of 450 nm and at a wavelength of 550 nm being 0.75 or more and 0.92 or less; a birefringence at a wavelength of 550 nm and the wavelength dispersion satisfy a relationship of &#x394;n&#x2265;0.0140&#xd7;(R450/R550)&#x2212;0.0082; and a photoelastic coefficient is 25&#xd7;10Paor less.

Retardation film, circularly-polarizing plate, and image-displaying device

The retardation film of the present invention contains a resin having positive refractive index anisotropy and containing at least one bonding group of a carbonate bond and an ester bond and one or more structural units selected from the group consisting of a structural unit represented by the general formula (1) and a structural unit represented by the general formula (2), in which the value of wavelength dispersion (R450/R550) as a ratio of retardation R450 at a wavelength of 450 nm to retardation R550 at a wavelength of 550 nm is more than 0.5 and less than 1.0: (in formula (1) and formula (2), definitions of Rto Rare the same as in the description).

The retardation film of the present invention contains a thermoplastic resin and is constituted of a single layer. A value of wavelength dispersion (R450/R550) that is a ratio of a retardation R450 at a wavelength of 450 nm and a retardation R550 at a wavelength of 550 nm is 0.70 or more and 0.85 or less; and a photoelastic coefficient is 14&#xd7;10Paor less.

The present invention provides a method of producing a thin polarizing film having both excellent optical characteristics and excellent in-plane uniformity. The method of producing a thin polarizing film includes stretching a thermoplastic resin substrate in a first direction, followed by formation of a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin layer on the thermoplastic resin substrate to prepare a laminate and shrinking and stretching the laminate in the first direction and a second direction, respectively.

Method for producing thin polarizing film

There is provided a polarizing plate with a retardation layer being extremely thin and having excellent durability. A polarizing plate with a retardation layer includes a polarizer; a protective layer bonded onto one side of the polarizer through intermediation of a first adhesive layer; and a retardation layer bonded onto another side of the polarizer through intermediation of a second adhesive layer. The polarizer has a thickness of from 2 &#x3bc;m to 12 &#x3bc;m, a boric acid content of 18 wt % or more, an iodine content of 2.1 wt % or more, a single layer transmittance of 44.2% or more, a polarization degree of 98% or more, and an orientation function of 0.35 or more. The retardation layer has a thickness of 50 &#x3bc;m or less and a birefringence &#x394;nxy of 0.0025 or more. The first and second adhesive layer each has a thickness of 2 &#x3bc;m or less.

Provided is a method capable of producing a retardation film having an elongated shape and having a slow axis in an oblique direction with high production efficiency while precisely controlling the direction of the slow axis and the variation of the direction. The method of producing a retardation film of the present invention includes: holding the left and right end portions of a film with left and right variable pitch-type clips configured to have clip pitches changing in a longitudinal direction, respectively; preheating the film; obliquely stretching the film; and releasing the clips holding the film. Provided is a method capable of producing a retardation film suppressed in biaxiality, having a small Nz coefficient, and having a slow axis in an oblique direction with high production efficiency. The production method for a retardation film of the present invention includes: holding left and right side edge portions of a film to be stretched with left and right variable pitch-type clips configured to have clip pitches changing in a longitudinal direction, respectively; preheating the film; reducing, under a state in which a position at which the clip pitch of the clips on one side out of the left and right clips starts to reduce and a position at which the clip pitch of the clips on another side starts to reduce are set to different positions in the longitudinal direction, the clip pitch of each of the clips to a predetermined pitch to subject the film to oblique stretching; and releasing the clips holding the film.

The present invention provides a method capable of producing a retardation film having an elongated shape, having high uniaxiality and a high in-plane alignment property, and having a slow axis in an oblique direction with high production efficiency. The production method for a retardation film of the present invention includes: holding left and right end portions of a film with left and right variable pitch-type clips configured to have clip pitches changing in a longitudinal direction, respectively; preheating the film; increasing the clip pitch of the clips on one side and reducing the clip pitch of the clips on another side, while extending a distance between the left and right clips, to obliquely stretch the film; maintaining or reducing the clip pitch of the clips on the one side and increasing the clip pitch of the clips on the another side so that the clip pitches of the left and right clips are equal to each other, while extending the distance between the left and right clips, to obliquely stretch the film; and releasing the film from being held with the clips.
