Active retarder for 3D image display and display device

Provided is a liquid crystal display device including: a first substrate; a second substrate opposite to the first substrate; and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate, and includes pixels arranged in a matrix pattern. The pixels each include a reflective region in which display is provided in a reflective mode and a transmissive region in which display is provided in a transmissive mode. At least one of the pixels further includes a light blocking region inside the transmissive region. The second substrate includes a second substrate side insulating layer and a color filter layer sequentially toward the liquid crystal layer. The second substrate side insulating layer is placed in the reflective region and the light blocking region. A film thickness of the color filter layer in the transmissive region is greater than a film thickness of the color filter layer in the reflective region.

A display device includes: a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix in a display area, wherein each of the plurality of pixels includes a reflective liquid crystal portion and a self-luminous element portion, in the reflective liquid crystal portion, a first substrate does not include a switching element, a reflector, a pixel electrode, a liquid crystal layer, and an opposite electrode form a reflective liquid crystal display element that operates in bistable liquid crystal display mode, in the self-luminous element portion, the first substrate includes: a switching element; a self-luminous display element including a first electrode, an organic layer, and a second electrode; and a coating layer disposed on a side of the liquid crystal layer of the self-luminous display element, and the coating layer is provided contiguously across the reflective liquid crystal portion and the self-luminous element portion.

Display device

Provided is a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel including in the following order an active matrix substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a counter substrate. The active matrix substrate includes in the following order a first electrode and a second electrode including a first linear electrode portion extending in a first direction. The counter substrate includes a third electrode including second linear electrode portions extending in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a fourth electrode including an island-shaped electrode portion as a floating electrode. The island-shaped electrode portion is disposed between the second linear electrode portions in a plan view, overlaps an optical aperture of one of two pixels adjacent to each other along the second direction, and does not overlap an optical aperture of the other of the two pixels.

Provided is a display device including a backlight; a first liquid crystal panel; a display panel; and a second liquid crystal panel. The first liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate, a first liquid crystal layer containing first liquid crystal molecules, and a second substrate. A liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate including a first electrode and a second electrode configured to generate a transverse electrical field; a counter substrate including a plurality of third electrodes disposed at predetermined intervals and having a stripe pattern; a liquid crystal layer located between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate; and a control circuit. The liquid crystal display device can display an image in a first viewing angle mode and a second viewing angle mode having a viewing angle narrower than the first viewing angle mode by the control circuit switching an amplitude and a waveform of a voltage applied to the third electrodes. The control circuit applies a common voltage having a different value to the first electrode or the second electrode in each of the first viewing angle mode and the second viewing angle mode.

Liquid crystal display device and method for controlling liquid crystal display device

There is provided a liquid crystal panel provided with a display region and a frame region and including a first substrate and a second substrate disposed facing the first substrate. In the display region, a liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. In the frame region, a sealing portion is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a first support substrate and a first substrate-side insulating layer contacting the first support substrate in order toward the liquid crystal layer side. The second substrate includes a protrusion protruding to the liquid crystal layer side. The first substrate-side insulating layer includes a first thickness portion having a flat surface on the liquid crystal layer side, and a second thickness portion protruding to the liquid crystal layer side relative to the first thickness portion and disposed to face the protrusion.

Liquid crystal panel and three-dimensional display device

Liquid crystal panel and display device

Provided is a liquid crystal display device that can switch between the privacy mode and the public mode and achieve a high contrast ratio even during display in the privacy mode. The liquid crystal display panel includes: a liquid crystal panel; and a control circuit. The active matrix substrate sequentially includes a first substrate, a first electrode, a first insulating layer, and second electrodes each including a first linear electrode. The color filter substrate includes a second substrate, a black matrix, a color filter layer, a third electrode, and a fourth electrode which is disposed between the black matrix and the third electrode and to which constant voltage is applied. A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. Each pixel includes a reflective region and a transmissive region. The first substrate includes a reflective layer, an interlayer insulating layer provided to cover the reflective layer, and a pixel electrode provided on the interlayer insulating layer in each pixel. The interlayer insulating layer has a recess portion which is defined by a bottom surface and an inclined side surface and at least a part of which is located in the transmissive region. A depth of the recess portion of the interlayer insulating layer is 0.5 μm or more, and an inclination angle of the inclined side surface of the recess portion is 25° or less.

A viewing angle control liquid crystal panel includes: a first polarizer having a first absorption axis; a first liquid crystal panel including a first substrate, a first liquid crystal layer, and a second substrate; a second liquid crystal panel including a third substrate, a second liquid crystal layer, and a fourth substrate; and a third liquid crystal panel including a fifth substrate, a third liquid crystal layer, and a sixth substrate. Liquid crystal panel and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. Each pixel includes a reflection region and a transmission region. The first substrate includes a reflecting layer, a first insulating layer, and a pixel electrode. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transmission region is greater than the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflection region, and the liquid crystal layer has a twist angle of substantially 0 degree. A surface of the first substrate that faces the liquid crystal layer includes an upper step portion, a lower step portion, and an inclined portion. The length L1 of a portion of the inclined portion included in the reflection region and the length L2 of a portion of the lower step portion included in the reflection region satisfy the relationship L1+L2≤1.81·L1.
