A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a plurality of pixels. Each of the pixels has a reflection region for performing display in a reflective mode. The first substrate includes a pixel electrode provided in each of the pixels and a reflection layer positioned opposite to the liquid crystal layer with respect to the pixel electrode. The reflection layer has a first region positioned in each of the pixels and a second region positioned between any two pixels adjacent to each other. Voltages of an identical polarity are applied to the liquid crystal layer for any two pixels adjacent to each other in a row direction, for any two pixels adjacent to each other in a column direction, or for all the pixels.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer, and a plurality of pixels. Each of the pixels includes a reflective region for performing display in a reflection mode. The first substrate includes a reflective electrode including a first region located within each of the plurality of pixels and a second region located between any two pixels, of the plurality of pixels, adjacent to each other, a transparent insulating layer provided to cover the reflective electrode, and a pixel electrode formed from a transparent conductive material and provided on the transparent insulating layer in each of the plurality of pixels. The second substrate includes a counter electrode provided to be opposite to the pixel electrode and the reflective electrode. Voltage of the same polarity is applied to the liquid crystal layer of any two pixels, of the plurality of pixels, adjacent to each other along a row direction, any two pixels, of the plurality of pixels, adjacent to each other along a column direction, or all of the plurality of pixels. The counter electrode and the reflective electrode are provided with potentials different from each other.

A liquid crystal display panel includes pixels including a reflective region for display in a reflection mode and a transmissive region for display in a transmission mode. The liquid crystal display panel includes a liquid crystal layer including a nematic liquid crystal material having negative dielectric anisotropy and a chiral agent, a pixel electrode including a reflective conductive layer and a transparent conductive layer, a counter electrode, a light diffusing structure provided in common to the reflective region and the transmissive region, and a first vertical alignment film provided between the pixel electrode and the liquid crystal layer, and a second vertical alignment film provided between the counter electrode and the liquid crystal layer. At least one of the first vertical alignment film and the second vertical alignment film has an alignment regulating force defining a pretilt azimuthal direction, and in a case where the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflective region is dr, and the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transmissive region is dt, dr and dt are in a range of 0.85&#x2264;dt/dr&#x2264;1.25.

Liquid crystal display panel

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer, and a plurality of pixels. Each of the pixels includes a reflective region for performing display in a reflection mode. The first substrate includes a reflective electrode including a first region located within each of the plurality of pixels and a second region located between any two pixels, of the plurality of pixels, adjacent to each other, a transparent insulating layer provided to cover the reflective electrode, and a pixel electrode formed from a transparent conductive material and provided on the transparent insulating layer in each of the plurality of pixels. The second substrate includes a counter electrode. Voltage of the same polarity is applied to the liquid crystal layer of any two pixels, of the plurality of pixels, adjacent to each other along a row direction, any two pixels, of the plurality of pixels, adjacent to each other along a column direction, or all of the plurality of pixels. A time average of voltage applied between the pixel electrode and the reflective electrode is substantially the same between a maximum gray scale display state and a minimum gray scale display state.

A liquid crystal display device includes an element substrate, a counter substrate, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the element substrate and the counter substrate, reflective electrodes placed on a surface of the element substrate that is located on the liquid crystal layer side, and a pair of alignment films each of which is placed on a corresponding one of a surface of the element substrate that is located on the liquid crystal layer side and a surface of the counter substrate that is located on the liquid crystal layer side. A liquid crystal composition contained in the liquid crystal layer contains a compound containing an alkoxy group. The alignment films contain a polymer including polyimide. The polyimide is derived from a polyamic acid and contains a side chain represented by Formula (1).

Liquid crystal display device, method for manufacturing liquid crystal display device, and electronic apparatus

Each pixel has a reflection region to produce a display in reflection mode. The first substrate includes: a pixel electrode for each pixel; and a first vertical alignment film. The second substrate includes: an opposite electrode opposite the pixel electrodes; and a second vertical alignment film. Of the first and second vertical alignment films, only the second vertical alignment film exerts an alignment-regulating force that determines a pretilt angle. Each pixel electrode includes a plurality of subpixel electrodes. The opposite electrode has an opening in an area corresponding to one of four corners of at least one of the plurality of subpixel electrodes. Liquid crystal molecules in a thickness-wise middle portion of the liquid crystal layer on the subpixel electrode are oriented toward the opening.

Liquid crystal cell and liquid crystal display device

A display device includes a reflective electrode, a driving circuit section, a wiring, and a wiring expansion section. The reflective electrode is divided into split electrodes arranged with spaces, which transmit light, respectively provided thereamong and reflects light. The driving circuit section drives the reflective electrode. The wiring is connected to at least the split electrodes and the driving circuit section and composed of a conductive material having a light transmission property. The wiring expansion section is formed to expand in the wiring to overlap the space.

A reflective liquid crystal display device has a first substrate having a first electrode that reflects light; a second substrate having a second electrode that transmits light; a liquid crystal layer provided between the first electrode and the second electrode, including a nematic liquid crystal material having negative dielectric anisotropy &#x394;&#x3b5; and a chiral agent, having nearly vertical alignment when no voltage is applied, and having twist alignment or hybrid alignment when white voltage is applied; and a polarizing layer provided on the observer side of the second substrate and at least one retarder layer disposed between the polarizing layer and the second substrate, wherein the reflective liquid crystal display device has a drive circuit that applies black voltage or white voltage across the liquid crystal layer at a frame rate of 1 fps or less, and when applying white voltage across the liquid crystal layer over a plurality of frames, the drive circuit applies the white display voltage whose polarity is inverted for each frame with respect to the potential of the second electrode, and assuming that a natural pitch of the nematic liquid crystal material including the chiral agent is p, that a thickness of the liquid crystal layer is d, and that a birefringence of the nematic liquid crystal material is &#x394;n, 60&#xb0;&#x3c;&#x3b2;60&#xb0;&#xb7;d/p|&#x3c;180&#xb0; and 237 nm&#x2264;&#x394;nd&#x2264;&#x2264;331 nm are established.

Reflective type liquid crystal display device and wearable device provided with same

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device which includes a reflective electrode, which achieves its low-voltage driving, and which suppresses flickering caused during its driving and image sticking caused by its long-term driving. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: a first substrate provided with a reflective electrode configured to reflect ambient light; a second substrate facing the first substrate; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate and containing a liquid crystal material that contains a liquid crystal compound containing an alkoxy group and has negative anisotropy of dielectric constant; an alignment film provided on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate on a side facing the liquid crystal layer; and an aromatic polymer that is present between the liquid crystal layer and the alignment film and/or within the alignment film and has a specific structure.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device in which flicker and image sticking caused by long-term use are suppressed. The liquid crystal display device includes, in the following order: a first substrate; a liquid crystal layer; and a second substrate, the liquid crystal display device including an alignment film including a polymer containing a salicylic acid derivative functional group in a side chain on the liquid crystal layer side of at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate, the salicylic acid derivative functional group having a structure represented by the following formula (Z): 

A manufacturing method of a mold, the mold having at its surface a plurality of recessed portions whose two-dimensional size is not less than 10 nm and less than 500 nm when viewed in a direction normal to the surface, the method including: (a) providing a mold base, (b) partially anodizing an aluminum alloy layer, thereby forming a porous alumina layer which has a plurality of minute recessed portions; and (c) after step (b), bringing the porous alumina layer into contact with a first etching solution, thereby enlarging the plurality of minute recessed portions of the porous alumina layer. Step (a) of providing the mold base includes (a) providing a metal base, (a) forming an aluminum alloy layer on the metal base, and (a) forming a surface protection layer on the aluminum alloy layer. Step (a) and step (a) are performed in a same chamber.

Method for producing mold

There is provided a method for forming wiring or an electrode by coating a substrate with a composition comprising (A) a complex of an amine compound and a hydrogenated aluminum compound and (B) a titanium compound or a composition comprising the complex and (C) metal particles and subjecting the obtained coating film to heating and/or a light treatment. By the method, a film can be formed that uses a conductive film forming composition with which wiring and an electrode that can be suitably used for electronic devices can be formed easily and inexpensively.

A circularly polarizing unit, including a single linear polarizer plate, selectively passes either right handed or left handed circularly polarized light out of natural light. The circularly polarizing unit is disposed so that a major surface of the circularly polarizing unit is on a liquid crystal layer side, the circularly polarized light exiting the circularly polarizing unit through the major surface when natural light enters the circularly polarizing unit. Various parameters of the liquid crystal layer are optimized for a liquid crystal layer having a twist angle in the range of 0&#xb0; to 100&#xb0;.
