A gas generator for slowly inflating an air bag at the early stage of the inflation and then rapidly inflating it or discharge a clean gas evenly around a housing. The gas generator includes a gas generating agent () and an squib () in the housing (). The squib () is disposed eccentrically to the axis (a) of the housing (). A high temperature gas is generated in a combustion chamber () because of the combustion of the gas generating agent () ignited by the squib (). The permeability of the high temperature gas through inner cylindrical member () closest to the squib () is lower than that through the part other than the inner cylindrical member ().

Gas generator

The present invention provides a gas generator for expanding and inflating a driver's seat airbag. The gas generator comprises two ignitor devicefor burning gas generantspacked in combustion chambersand enhancer devicefor allowing the flames from the ignitor deviceto be propagated circumferentially and radially of a housing

It is an object of the present invention to provide a gas generator suitable for an organic-compound gas generating agent and excellent in heat resistance, pressure resistance, and sealing. In the gas generator, a housing () is formed by joining an iron- or steel-made upper lid (), consisting of a top plate () and a side cylinder () extending downward from an entire circumferential edge thereof and provided with many gas discharge holes () with an iron- or steel-made lower lid (), consisting of a bottom plate (), side cylinder () extending upward from an entire circumferential edge thereof, and an ignitor holding portion () formed integrally with the bottom plate () and for fixing by caulking an ignitor (). In the housing (), the ignitor () and a gas generating agent () are arranged in the order mentioned from a center thereof.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a gas generator that can provide a controlled expansion and inflation of the airbag with improved reliability. The gas generator D of the present invention is so structured that gas generating agents packed in combustion chambers can be burnt by two ignitors independently of each other, wherein the ignitors electrically ignite ignition agents by use of bridge wires for generating heat by electrifying, and resistance values thereof are differentiated from each other.

The annular projection ( ) is integrally formed on at least one of the upper cap ( ) and the lower cap ( ) so as to abut with an inner peripheral surface of the cooling/filtering member ( ).
