Disclosed herein is an exhaust insulator structure for a multi-cylinder engine of a vehicle. The structure includes an exhaust manifold, an exhaust gas purifier, and a heat insulator. The engine is able to switch its mode of operation from an all-cylinder operation in which all of four cylinders thereof are activated to a cylinder-cutoff operation in which two of the four cylinders are deactivated to serve as idle cylinders and the other two cylinders are activated to serve as active cylinders, or vice versa. The exhaust manifold includes: idle-cylinder-connected branched exhaust piping communicating with the idle cylinders; and active-cylinder-connected branched exhaust piping communicating with the active cylinders. A portion of the heat insulator facing the active-cylinder-connected branched exhaust piping has an opening that lets air blowing against the vehicle traveling into the heat insulator.

Exhaust insulator structure for multi-cylinder engine

Two turbochargers are arranged vertically near a one side of a crank-shaft direction at a one-side face of an engine body so that the large-size turbocharger is located above the small-sized turbocharger, and an exhaust-gas purification device is arranged an open space made on the other side of the crank-shaft direction so that its exhaust inlet is located above and its outlet is located below. Accordingly, the turbochargers and the exhaust-gas purification device can be arranged compactly and the layout of some devices around the engine can be facilitated.

Turbocharged engine for vehicle

An internal combustion engine, comprising, a cylinder head; a rotational shaft supported by said cylinder head and lubricated; a head cover arranged on said cylinder head; an end member arranged at an axial end of said rotational shaft; a first chamber defined at least by said cylinder head and said end member and accommodating said rotational shaft; a second chamber defined at least by said head cover and having an opening to said first chamber; and a baffle integrally formed with said end member and extending in an axial direction of said rotational shaft between said opening and said rotational shaft in a radial direction of said rotational shaft.

Oil separator for an engine

A skirt section of the cylinder block is shortened to the height of the rotational center of the crank shaft. To the bottom end of the skirt section is the lower cylinder block whose bottom end is coupled to the oil pan. The inner space of the lower cylinder block section is divided by plural partition walls extending transversely between the side walls of the lower cylinder block section. A bearing cap supporting the crank shaft has a boss section projecting transversely and a threaded hole is formed in the boss section. Further, the bottom end of the bearing cap has a threaded hole having an opening facing bottom. The lower cylinder block section is further provided at its side wall with a hole through which the side portion of the bearing cap is connected to the side wall of the lower cylinder block section. The bottom end of the bearing cap is connected to the side wall of the lower cylinder block section. This arrangement for the bearing caps improves rigidity for supporting the bearing caps, thereby permitting a decrease in the vibration of the engine.

Cylinder block structure for an internal combustion engine

A cylinder block including an upper block, a crankshaft and a lower block, has a plurality of bearing caps secured to the upper block so as to support the crankshaft for rotation. A generally rectangularly-shaped lower block casing is provided with a first reinforcing rib, located below each bearing cap and extending upright so as to connect opposite side walls of the casing, and a second reinforcing rib, extending from a fitting bracket. A transmission casing is fitted to the cylinder block through the fitting bracket. The second reinforcing rib terminates approximately below one of the bearing caps. The first reinforcing rib associated with the one of the bearing caps is separated from the bearing caps. The first reinforcing ribs are provided with structural stiffnesses such that a first reinforcing rib which is farther away from the one of the bearing caps than another first reinforcing rib has a lower structural stiffness than the other first reinforcing rib.

Engine block

An oil pan for a vehicle engine is cast to have shallow and deepened bottom oil pan sections and an integral fitting flange to which a transmission case is attached. The fitting flange is formed with bosses for receiving bolts to tightly attach the oil pan to an engine block of the vehicle engine. First or outer reinforcing ribs extend along the center line of the bosses. Second or back reinforcing ribs are arranged correspondingly to the outer reinforcing ribs. Bolts pass through the bosses and tighten the oil pan to the bottom of the cylinder block of the vehicle engine.
