The multi-layer gasket assembly includes a plurality of metal gasket layers which have at least one set of axially aligned openings. The plurality of gasket layers includes at least two functional layers which are arranged in a stacked relationship with one another. Each functional layer has at least one full embossment bead that is spaced radially from and surrounds the at least one opening. The functional layers are also arranged such that the full embossment beads are in a nested relationship with one another. At least one stopper is positioned adjacent the nested full embossment beads for preventing full flattening of the full embossment beads.

Multi-layer gasket assembly

A cylinder head gasket constructed in accordance with invention provides a reliable gas/fluid-tight seal between a cylinder head and cylinder block during assembly and maintains the seal during use without substantially losing the contact pressure provided by the gasket during assembly while in use. The cylinder head gasket includes a first functional layer having an opening bounded by an annular free edge. The first functional layer has a full bead and a half bead. The half bead is between the full bead and the free edge. The half bead extends in a first axial direction to a plateau portion and the full bead extends in a second axial direction opposite the first axial direction to a peak.

Cylinder head gasket

A gasket assembly having a secondary elastic sealing bead positioned radially inwardly of the primary sealing bead. The secondary sealing bead extends circumferentially about the aperture and radially inwardly of the primary sealing bead. A stopper layer is disposed adjacent at least a portion of the gasket layer and extends radially from the outboard region to the inboard edge to radially overlap the secondary sealing bead and the primary sealing bead. The secondary sealing bead has an 'S-type' structure and provides increased gasket resiliency adjacent the inboard edge.

Elastic sealing member radially inwardly of primary sealing bead

A gasket assembly is provided including a first gasket layer and a second gasket layer having an outboard region and an inboard edge circumscribing an aperture. The gasket layers present a sealing bead between the inboard edge and the outboard region. A stopper layer disposed between the gasket layers is attached to the outboard region of the first gasket layer at an attachment joint and extends from the attachment joint to the inboard edge. A coating of sealing material is applied between the first gasket layer and the stopper layer. The coating extends from the attachment joint to the inboard edge of the first gasket layer to present a contact region immediately surrounding the aperture where the first gasket layer and the stopper layer are in direct continuous contact with the coating thereby preventing gas leakage and metal to metal contact between the first gasket layer and the stopper layer.

Metal gasket

A cylinder head gasket including a first functional layer, a second functional layer, a first stopper, and a second stopper is provided. The first functional layer includes a first full bead extending around a combustion chamber opening and axially aligned with a second full bead of the second functional layer. The first stopper extends along the first functional layer between the combustion chamber opening and the first full bead for preventing over-compression of the first full bead. The second stopper extends along the second full bead of the second functional layer for increasing load on the second full bead, reducing head lift, and promoting an even distribution of the load. The second stopper includes a third full bead matching the second full bead of said second functional layer.

Cylinder head gasket with compression control features

A multilayer cylinder head gasket has a pair of functional layers and a distance layer with aligned openings. Each functional layer has a full bead located radially outwardly from and extending about its opening. Each functional layer also has a half bead spaced from the full bead. The distance layer includes a first portion extending radially from the opening and having a first thickness. A second portion of the distance layer extends radially from the first portion and has a second thickness that is less than the first thickness. A third portion of the distance layer extends radially from the second portion and has a third thickness less than the second thickness. The distance layer comprises a plurality of pieces, and at least one of the pieces limits compression of at least one of the full beads when the functional layers are compressed together.

Multilayer static gasket with bead compression limiter

A multilayer static cylinder head gasket has at least one metal functional layer and a metal distance layer having registered openings. The functional layer has a full bead located radially outwardly from and extending about its opening. The opening in the distance layer is formed in a first portion having a first thickness. A second portion of the distance layer extends radially outwardly from the opening and the first portion, wherein the second portion has a second thickness that is less than the first thickness. A compression limiter is formed in at least one of the functional layer or the distance layer. The compression limiter prevents the full bead from being completely flattened, which in turn maintains the full bead in high sealing pressure against the distance layer relative to the remaining portion of the functional layer and also prevents premature fatigue cracks from forming in the full bead.

A multilayer metal static cylinder head gasket for establishing a gas/fluid-tight seal between a cylinder head and an engine block includes a pair of functional layers having openings configured to register with a combustion chamber and annular seal beads configured to form a seal about the openings. The gasket further includes a primary compression limiter formed of a separate piece of material from the functional layers. The primary compression limiter extends at least partially about the openings to facilitate inhibiting the seal beads from being fully flattened between the cylinder head and the engine block. The pair of functional layers have nested protrusions forming a secondary compression limiter spaced radially outwardly from the primary compression limiter to further inhibit the seal beads from being fully flattened between the cylinder head and the engine block.

A multi-use gasket assembly includes at least two lobes each having a fluid-conveying opening with an associated axis. Four mounting holes are formed in each of the lobes about the openings. The gasket has symmetry across a plane of symmetry containing the axes of the openings.
