A copying machine records an image on a recording sheet through the use of an ink donor sheet with thermally transferable ink. The copying machine includes a platen of glass for supporting an original to be copied, a scanner unit movable reciprocally relative to the platen for reading a series of lines on the original and for generating an image signal for each line, a thermal head having a heating region for selectively generating thermal pulses in response to the image signal from the scanner unit, an ink donor sheet supply assembly for supplying the thermal head with an ink donor sheet coated with thermally transferable ink which can be fluidized or sublimable upon being heated, a recording sheet supply assembly for supplying a recording sheet in the vicinity of the thermal head, a contacting assembly for bringing the supplied recording sheet into intimate contact with a heating region of the thermal head with the ink donor sheet interposed between the thermal head and the recording sheet, and a recording sheet discharging assembly for discharging the recording sheet peeled off the ink donor sheet after the image has been recorded on the recording sheet.

Heat storage correction apparatus

A two-color copying machine records an image on a recording sheet in two colors such as red and black by using thermally transferable red and black inks on ink donor sheets. The two-color copying machine includes a platen for supporting an original to be copied, a scanner unit movable reciprocally with respect to the platen for reading the original and for generating an image signal for each line which is separated into two single color image signals, each corresponding to one of the two colors, a pair of thermal heads each for selectively generating thermal pulses in response to the image signal from the scanner unit, an ink donor sheet supply assembly for supplying the thermal heads with respective ink donor sheets coated with thermally transferable inks of different colors, respectively, which can be fluidized or sublimated upon being heated, a recording sheet supply assembly for supplying a recording sheet in the vicinity of the thermal heads, a recording sheet contacting assembly for bringing the supplied recording sheet into intimate contact with a heating region of each of the thermal heads with the ink donor sheet interposed between a thermal head and an ink donor sheet, a recording sheet peeling assembly for peeling the recording sheet off the ink donor sheets after the image has been recorded on the recording sheet, and a discharge assembly for discharging the peeled recording sheet.

Two-color copying machine

A printing method is shown in which printing quality is improved when superimposed thermal-transfer recording is performed. According to the present invention, at least one of a plurality of thermal-transfer media is made of a material of different thermal characteristics from the remaining media. Different thermal-transfer media thermal characteristics are obtained by changing the thickness, melting point or viscosity of the thermal-transfer ink on the thermal transfer media, or by changing the thickness, quality of material or density of the base material of the thermal-transfer media.

Printing method

An image displaying device uses a thermal head to selectively create a magnetization pattern on an endless belt magnetic recording medium according to a signal applied thereto by heating the magnetic recording medium to its Curie temperature. Polarized light is then passed through or reflected from the belt and fed to an analyzer to obtain an image.

Image display device

A thermal recording head is provided with a driving system wherein higher printing speeds may be obtained. Particularly, in the case where the image to be printed by a divided block of elements is totally black, all common driving terminals corresponding to the block are selected for simultaneous recording.

A method and device for driving a thermal head taking into consideration not only picture data already recorded and picture data on the line containing the aimed data currently being recorded, but also picture data intended to be recorded.

Thermal head drive device

A thermo-sensitive recording apparatus individually controls the energization level of each of a plurality of heater elements formed on a substrate and constituting a thermal print head. In generating each energization level, the present and previous status of an individual heater element and selected neighboring elements are taken into consideration. Other factors combined in a selectively weighted manner include the latent heat of the individual heater element and its neighboring heater elements, the resistance of the heater element, the percentage of heater elements to be activated during the printing of a line, and the temperature of the substrate.

Thermo-sensitive recording apparatus

A thermal head for use in thermal printing is operated according to a method in which the data of one line are recorded divisionally, with recording operations for the first and second halves of a line being carried out alternatingly and repeatedly.

Thermal head driving method

A picture data processing device in which a region specifying original having markings which physically define a region of interest of an original document to be processed is read and stored. When the original document is read, the stored markings are reproduced to mask out the areas of the original document other than the region of interest. A signal processing operation, such as extraction, rearrangement, or size alteration with respect to the selected region can then be performed.

Picture data processing device

A multi-function copying machine having a reading section for reading picture data on an original by raster scanning. A recording section has a plurality of recording devices adapted to perform recording at different recording positions. The recording section applies to the recording devices a picture signal for each color for multi-color recording or a picture signal for each side of the original for two-side recording. Recording control is achieved by a control system for controlling the timing of delivery of the picture signal applied to the recording devices. An editing control circuit sets the timing of delivery of a part of the picture signal provided by the reading section to the recording section, for editing the picture data on the original. A memory delays the timing of delivery of a predetermined picture signal to the recording section according to the timing of delivery set by the control system.

Multi-function copying machine

An information reader has a number of linear image sensors dividing one line of picture information into as many parts for reading an original. As these sensors may be relatively shifted in the subscanning direction, signal delay devices are provided corresponding to the sensors for delaying a read out signal by an amount corresponding to the respective shift of the image sensors. The invention removes severe constraints on the placement and alignment of the sensors, facilitating installation and maintenance.

Picture information reading apparatus

A printing system is provided which allows selected characters or symbols to be emphasized without increasing the density thereof. A video signal containing printing data for a character to be emphasized is delayed and logically added to an undelayed video signal to expand the 'black' portion of the signal on the time axis.

Printing system

A recording apparatus in which recording is made several times each line in a partitioning manner part after part on each recording line for which there exists picture data to be printed. The system determines whether there exists picture data to be printed on each line or not. A sub-scanning speed per line is set such that when the determination is made that one or more successive lines immediately before a recording line for which there exists picture data to be printed is or are an entire blank line or successive entire blank lines for which there exists no picture data to be printed, the sub-scanning speed for the entire blank line or successive ones of the successive entire blank lines adjacent to the recording line is selected to be substantially equal to that at the recording line. The sub-scanning speed of other entire blank line or lines for which there exists no picture data is selected to be a speed which is sufficiently higher than that for the recording line.

Recording apparatus

A two-color copying machine includes a scanner unit for producing output signals representing different colors of an original image and a thermal printer heating its heating elements to temperature ranges in accordance with the scanner unit output signals and utilizing a recording medium which records in two different colors depending on the applied temperature.
