The storage system is coupled to a computer and includes a plurality of physical storages being used to configure a first logical storage and a second logical storage, a control unit receiving a read request and a write request from the computer; and a cache memory storing data which is sent to the computer. The control unit determines whether a request from the computer is a write request or a read request. If it is a read request, the control unit reads data from the cache memory or at least one of the plurality of physical storages based on the read request. If it is a write request, the control unit determines whether destination of the write request is the first logical storage.

Data restoring method and an apparatus using journal data and an identification information

A SAN manager acquires configuration information from devices constituting a SAN and produces a corresponding relationship between a host computer and a virtual volume (virtual volume mapping) and a corresponding relationship between the host computer and a real volume (real volume mapping). When the storage system is instructed to transfer volumes, virtual ports, or a group of volumes and virtual ports among the storage control units, the storage system determines whether an inter-unit network will be required to be used following the transfer. When the storage system determines that the inter-unit network will be required if the transfer takes place, the storage system determines and presents an alternate storage control unit for the transfer to avoid use of the inter-unit network, thereby avoiding degraded performance.

Geographically dispersed data centers each include servers and storage systems and are in communication with each other. An application is installed on a guest operating system on a virtual machine set up on a server at a first data center. The application accesses a logical unit on a storage system at the first data center. When migration of the application is initiated, the process determines whether any of the data centers has server resources and storage resources required to receive migration of the application. A destination data center is selected from candidate data centers meeting requirements for migration of the application. The application and guest operating system are migrated from the first data center to a second virtual machine set up on a second server at the destination data center. If a replica of the LU is not already present at the destination data center, the LU is also replicated.

Storage system for sending an access request from a host to a storage subsystem

Provided is an environment that storage device configuration management can be efficiently done in a data center having a virtualization device. A SAN manager acquires configuration information from a device constituting a SAN and prepares a correspondence relationship between a host computer and a virtual volume in the SAN, and a corresponding relationship between the host computer and a real volume, depending upon the acquired information. Based on the corresponding relationship, the SAN manager outputs a correspondence relationship of between virtual and real volumes. Meanwhile, by interpreting a failure-notification message received from the devices of the SAN, detected and outputted is an influence upon an access to a real or virtual volume as to the failure. Furthermore, when a plurality of failure notifications are received from the devices connected to the SAN, a plurality of failure notifications are associatively outputted depending upon a correspondence relationship between real and virtual volumes.

A database recovery method including a computer and a storage system, in which: the storage system includes a disk drive for storing data; the disk drive includes a data volume, a snapshot volume, a database log for storing an update log, and an update journal for storing update information of the data volume; a recovery point for indicating an end point of a range to which the update journal is to be applied and a starting point of a range to which the database log is to be applied is recorded to recover the data volume; and when the database is to be recovered, the update journal is applied to the snapshot volume up to the recovery point, the snapshot volume after the update is switched to the data volume, and the database log after the recovery point is applied to the data volume that is set by switching.

The storage system acquires, at update of data, a data pair including data for a change through processing of the host and data before the update. The storage system relates the data pair to a shared identifier. When the host indicates an identifier, the storage system restores data using the data pair.

A system and a method for causing migration of VNASs formed on NAS heads of one NAS system to other NAS heads on the same NAS system or on other NAS systems including independent storage systems. A VNAS management program on each NAS head includes a VNAS assign program, a failure detect program and a load balance program, that all include a capability for causing remote migration of VNASs on the NAS head in case a VNAS fails, the NAS head fails, or the entire NAS system fails. The VNAS management capability may cause VNAS migration if a NAS head is over loaded or if it is lightly loaded and may be powered down after its VNASs have been transferred.

Method and apparatus for virtual network attached storage remote migration

A disk storage system containing a storage device having a record medium for holding the data, a plurality of storage sub-systems having a controller for controlling the storage device, a first interface node coupled to a computer using the data stored in the plurality of storage sub-systems, a plurality of second interface nodes connected to the storage sub-systems, a switch connecting to a first interface node and a plurality of second interface nodes to perform frame transfer therebetween based on node address information added to the frame. The first interface node has a configuration table to store structural information for the memory storage system and in response to the frame sent from the computer, analyzes the applicable frame, converts information relating to the transfer destination of that frame based on structural information held in the configuration table, and transfers that frame to the switch.
