A photoconductor for electrophotography containing an undercoating film, that remains largely unaffected by environmental factors. The photoconductor exhibits stable electrical properties and allows for thickening of the undercoating film so that dielectric breakdown is not caused even when a contact charging method is used. The photoconductor includes a conductive substrate, an undercoating film on the conductive substrate and a photosensitive film on the undercoating film. The undercoating film contains a conductive polymer, an alkaline metal salt, a binder resin and an inorganic pigment.

Photoconductor for electrophotography

An electrophotographic photoconductor includes a conductive substrate, an intermediate layer on the conductive substrate, and a photoconductive layer on the intermediate layer. The intermediate layer includes an n-type semiconductive organic pigment.

Electrophotographic photoconductor

An image drum, of electrically conductive resin, includes a cylinder element adhesively bonded, using a non-solvent adhesive, to a bearing/drive element. To insure secure attachment of the bearing/drive element to the cylinder element, the adhesively bonded surface of the cylinder resin element is activated, by ultraviolet light in the wavelength range of 180 to 255 nm or by corona discharge, prior to bonding. The volume resistivity of the cylinder element 1 is 10.sup.4 .OMEGA.-cm. The most suitable resins that can be used for cylinder element 1 include thermoplastic resins including polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and polyphenylene sulfide, and thermosetting resins including phenol, melamine, epoxy, and unsaturated polyester. Both groups should be made conductive in the range of 10.sup.4 .OMEGA.-cm, or less, resistivity. The required conductivity can achieved by adding carbon black to the chosen material of which cylinder element 1 is made.

Electrophotographic image drum

An intermediate layer having fine hydrophobic silica particles is positioned between a substrate and a photosensitive layer. The fine hydrophobic silica particles preferably have a primary particle-averaged particle size of not more than 50 nm and desirably the surface of the fine hydrophobic silica particles is alkyl-silylated or treated with silicone.

Photosensitive body for electrophotography

A photoconductor for electrophotography is composed of a conductive substrate, an undercoat layer formed on the conductive substrate, a charge generating layer formed on the undercoat layer and a charge transporting layer formed on the charge generating layer. The undercoat layer comprises a crosslinked polyamide represented by the following formula, ##STR1## wherein m and n stand for positive integers.
