The present invention is to provide a pigment dispersion composition for a color filter having the excellent pigment dispersing property and dispersion stability, good developing property and reactivity, and an extremely small residue generation amount after development, a production method capable of stably producing such a pigment dispersion composition, and a color filter for a display having a high transmittance and a low light scattering property. A pigment dispersion composition for a color filter containing at least a pigment, a pigment dispersing agent, a binder resin, a reactive compound, and a solvent, wherein the binder resin is a compound having a pigment adsorbing block containing a pigment adsorbing group and not containing a reactive group, and a reactive block containing a reactive group and not containing a pigment adsorbing group, is provided.

An object of the present invention is to provide a color filter for reliably preventing the liquid crystal layer from being contaminated with ionic materials, as well as a liquid crystal display excellent in display qualities. To achieve the object described above, the present invention provides a color filter comprises a substrate, a resin colored layer consisting of a plurality of colors formed in a predetermined pattern on the substrate, and a common transparent electrode layer, said resin colored layer bringing about a voltage holding ratio of 80% or more and a residual DC (&Dgr;E) of 0.5 V or less in a liquid crystal subjected to treatment for extraction of impurities.

Disclosed is a color liquid crystal display in which a shielding member is disposed between a sealing member and a display zone to prevent the liquid crystal layer from being contaminated with liquid crystal-contaminants from the sealing member wherein the shielding member is formed of a material which does not adversely affect the liquid crystal layer. The color liquid crystal display comprises at least a color filter substrate provided with a colored layer with plural colors formed into a predetermined pattern in a display zone on a transparent substrate, a counter electrode substrate disposed opposite to and with a predetermined gap from the color filter substrate, a sealing member disposed outside of the display zone to seal the gap formed between both substrates, a liquid crystal layer formed by filling a liquid crystal material in the gap formed between both substrates and sealed by the sealing member and a shielding member disposed between the sealing member and the display zone and formed of a material which works such that the voltage retention and residual DC (&Dgr;E) of the liquid crystal material after the impurity-extraction treatment is 80% or more and 0.5 V or less respectively to prevent the liquid crystal material contained in the liquid crystal layer from being contaminated with contaminants from the sealing member.

A chromium blank for forming a black matrix-screen to be used as a color filter for a liquid crystal display is formed by forming at least a first antireflection film, a second antireflection film and a screening film sequentially in that order on one major surface of a transparent substrate. Each of the first and the second antireflection film is a semitransparent film formed of a chromium compound or a chromium mixture, containing chromium as a principal component, and the screening film is formed of chromium, a chromium compound containing chromium as a principal component. The transparent substrate, the first antireflection film, the second antireflection film and the screening film meet an inequality: n.sub.s &lt;n.sub.1 &lt;n.sub.2 &lt;n.sub.3, where n.sub.s is the refractive index of the transparent substrate, n.sub.1 is the real part of the complex index of refraction of the first antireflection film, n.sub.2 is the real part of the complex index of refraction of the second antireflection film, and n.sub.3 is the real part of the complex index of refraction of the screening film, in the substantially entire visible wavelength range.
