Multiple speed transmission

A transmission device, wherein the compound planetary gear mechanism increases the speed of the power transmitted to the input element and transmits the resultant power to the first and the second output elements when the fixable element is non-rotatably held stationary by the first brake; and the first and the second clutches are disposed on a side closer in the axial direction to the compound planetary gear mechanism than the first and the second planetary gear mechanisms.

Transmission device

When a fourth sun gear is held stationary so as to be unrotatable, a Ravigneaux type planetary gear mechanism transfers power, which has been transferred from an input shaft to a third carrier, to a third sun gear and a third ring gear with the speed of the power increased such that the rotational speed of the third sun gear is higher than the rotational speed of the third ring gear. A clutch, which corresponds to the third sun gear which rotates at a higher speed than that of the third ring gear, is disposed between the Ravigneaux type planetary gear mechanism and a second planetary gear disposed in proximity to the Ravigneaux type planetary gear mechanism with respect to a first planetary gear.

Multi-speed transmission

An automatic transmission that shifts power applied to an input member and outputs the shifted power to an output member, the automatic transmission including a first planetary gear mechanism, a third planetary gear mechanism, a compound planetary gear mechanism, a first clutch, a second clutch, a third clutch, a fourth clutch a first brake, and a second brake.

Automatic transmission

A vehicular automatic transmission for establishing a plurality of forward gear stages, includes: a transmission case; an input shaft; a transmission mechanism connected to the input shaft and including a plurality of transmission elements; an output shaft connected to the transmission mechanism; first and second clutches at opposite ends of the transmission mechanism and drivably connecting the input shaft with at least one of the transmission elements; and first and second hydraulic servos for applying the first and second clutches responsive to feed of an oil pressure. The transmission case encloses the transmission mechanism, the clutches and the hydraulic servos, and includes axial end walls forming cylinders for the hydraulic servos. First and second bearings are arranged between the pistons of the hydraulic servos and the first and second clutches, respectively, for allowing the relative rotation between the pistons and the clutches and for transmitting the thrust forces from the pistons to the respective clutches.

Vehicular automatic transmission

Smooth driving of a vehicle is achieved by eliminating busy shift by providing a small gear ratio step between the two highest gear ranges while maintaining structural compactness of the transmission. In the second highest gear range or state, a first pinion P1 has a diameter smaller than that of a second pinion P2, both pinions P1 and P2 being coupled integrally and at least partially determining the second highest gear ratio. The gear ratio .lambda..sub.2 in the second highest gear range is described as 1+(Z.sub.S2 /Z.sub.R1).times.(Z.sub.P1 /Z.sub.P2). Since (Z.sub.P1 /Z.sub.P2) is always equal to 1.0 or less, the gear ratio can be made smaller without enlarging the diameter of the ring gear R1 significantly to decrease the gear ratio step to the highest gear range.

A rotary element engaging device of an automatic transmission includes a stationary member, a planetary gear set having rotary elements, a frictionally engaging element interposed between the stationary member and one of the rotary elements, a one-way clutch interposed between the stationary member and the one rotary element, and an operating member for engaging and disengaging the frictionally engaging element. The rotary element is adapted to be selectively engaged with the stationary member through two paths formed of the frictionally engaging element and the one-way clutch. The one-way clutch is disposed between the frictionally engaging element and the operating member. The one-way clutch includes an inner race connected to the one rotary element and an outer race fixed to the stationary member. The operating member is adapted to act on the frictionally engaging element through the outer race.
