A ratio of cross sectional area A of a scroll passage to a scroll radius R (A/R) can be increased without increasing the size of a turbine casing and with very simple construction. An exhaust turbine capacity can thus be increased, so that a variable-throat exhaust turbocharger in which the engine output can be increased results. The turbocharger has a nozzle throat area varying mechanism of which a nozzle assembly unit is composed. A plurality of nozzle vanes are supported rotatably by an annular nozzle mount and an annular nozzle plate is connected to the nozzle mount by a plurality of nozzle supports to sandwich the nozzle vanes. The nozzle plate is located in the scroll chamber by attaching the nozzle assembly unit to the turbine casing to allow the nozzle plate to form part of the inside sidewall face of the scroll chamber and a wall face of the annular flow passage.

Structure of scroll of variable-throat exhaust turbocharger and method for manufacturing the turbocharger

A trailing edge of a turbine rotor blade is formed so that a deflection angle of a blade surface in a downstream side of a maximum blade thickness portion is a predetermined value or less, by forming the trailing edge of the rotor blade so as to be inclined from a center line of a blade thickness toward an extension line of a suction surface. Since the trailing edge of the rotor blade is thus formed, a rapid increase of the deflection angle is prevented in a trailing edge portion of the rotor blade. Accordingly, a rapid ascent portion and a rapid deceleration portion are not generated in a suction surface velocity in a main stream unlike the conventional case.

A mixed flow turbine includes a hub attached to a rotation axis and a plurality of rotor blades. Each of the plurality of rotor blades is attached to the hub in a radial direction, and the hub is rotated based on fluid supplied to a rotation region of the plurality of rotor blades. Each of the plurality of rotor blades has a curved shape that convexly swells on a supply side of the fluid.

The improvements are made in the turbine scroll and the turbine blades. The scroll structure for the radial turbines is characterized by the foregoing scroll having a scroll width ratio between the width in the radial direction (&Dgr;R) and the width in the direction of the rotation (B) ranging from &Dgr;R/B&equals;0.3 to 0.7. It is further characterized by the configuration in which the turbine blades have cut-away areas at the blade corners by a prescribed amount, which are provided on the inlet edge at the shroud side and hub side where the operating gas flows.

Method and device for assembling and adjusting variable capacity turbine

A vane adjustment mechanism, for controlling the quantity of exhaust gas including a base unit having an inner base unit and an outer base unit. The inner base unit ( A) has first and second flanges, and is forced into the outer base unit ( B). A plurality of U-shaped indentations ( ) are spaced at regular angular intervals and each indentation extends from the first flange ( ) to the second flange ( ), so that the U-shaped indentations form vane shaft holes for accommodating the vane lever units ( ) when the inner base unit is inserted into the outer base unit to block the U-shaped indentations in such a way that the vane lever units are free to rotate. A link plate ( ) has U-shaped indentations, in which protrusions of the vane lever units ( ) engage, all along the circumferential edge of the link plate.

Vane adjustment mechanism for variable capacity turbine, and assembling method for the same

A variable geometry radial turbine wherein a plurality of pivotable vanes are provided in the portion through which a gas is introduced into a turbine wheel which is disposed in a turbine housing. The pivotable vanes can be moved for the purpose of opening and closing a part of a gas introduction area whereby the gas flow rate is continuously changed.
