A time synchronization signal for time series data collected from multiple controlling devices of a PID process is provided. An assistance device concurrently transmits a time confirmation signal to respective controlling devices in a predetermined time confirmation cycle, and the controlling devices forcibly output time confirmation data for synchronizing control data related to the respective controlling devices with each other as a manipulation variable in one control cycle immediately after receiving the time confirmation signal. The time confirmation data is an irregular value that is not outputted as a value of the manipulation variable in a control cycle during a steady control state.

To facilitate protected distribution of digital data files, the files are segmented, and each segment (e.g. disk sector) is encrypted separately. Some segments can be left unencrypted, speeding access since less decryption is required. Different segments can utilize different encryption techniques, increasing protection against unauthorized decryption. A table stored in association with the encrypted data provides authorized users with data identifying the encrypted segments, and the form of encryption used. Decryption is accomplished with a layered set of operating system software that operates in conjunction with said table. Specialized APIs aren't used; applications programs are provided with unencrypted data using conventional APIs. Internal interfaces, invisible to the APIS, intercept normal processing calls (e.g READs) and direct them to internal decryption software that returns decrypted data back to the APIs.

Method and apparatus for protecting widely distributed digital

An interactive computer system for converting user interface presentations from a first application specified format to a second user specified format. The system accepts application program output designed to be displayed on a target type of computer system terminal and, converts the display to a user specified form prior to display. Through conversion apparatus and process the user may specify a customized format for presentation of the data from the application program to take advantage of the capabilities of a particular display device employed by that user. The system analyses the application program output, and converts the output to a form required by the customized interface and display the resulting output on the user display device. The system is able to accept data input and commands from the user display device, convert them into a form required by the application program and transmit that input or command to the application program. The application allows adaptation from one format to another and from one language to another. All changes are accomplished without changing the base application program.
