A battery charger includes a battery attachment section configured to have a rechargeable battery releasably attached thereto. The battery attachment section includes a flat attachment surface having a width corresponding to a width of a bottom surface of a case of the battery to be charged and a length greater than a length of the bottom surface of the case of the battery to be charged; a plurality of locking hooks provided on the attachment surface; a charger terminal configured to contact a terminal of the battery to be charged, the charger terminal including a plurality of plate-shaped contact pieces configured to be inserted into engaging grooves of the battery to be charged; and an attachment projection adjacent to the attachment surface and configured to secure the battery to the charger.

A battery apparatus and electronic equipment in which the battery apparatus has a characteristic compatible with the electronic equipment can be suitably attached to the electronic equipment. In a battery apparatus, an identification section of the battery apparatus serves to identify a characteristic of the battery apparatus, and which is provided on an end surface and on both sides of a battery-side terminal in the width direction of the battery apparatus. The identification section is configured with identification recesses formed in a manner open to the end surface, and at least one of the positions, cross-sectional shapes, and lengths on the end surface of the identification recesses, is formed on the basis of the characteristic of the battery apparatus. The cross-sectional shape and length of the identification recess is formed on the basis of the characteristic of the battery apparatus.

A battery apparatus and an electronic equipment are provided which permit the use of a plurality of types of battery apparatuses that differ in capacity, and are advantageous in improving ease of use. A case of a battery apparatus has a main body portion and a bottom portion disposed at one side in a thickness direction at the midpoint in a width direction of the main body portion. A plane on one side in the thickness direction of the case is formed as a flat bottom surface. At portions of the case on both sides in the width direction, guide grooves are formed which extend in the length direction and engage projections disposed at a battery housing chamber thereby to position the position of the case in the thickness direction within the battery housing chamber.
