There are provided a printing method for a printing press that includes: printing an image on a sheet of paper fed using an ultraviolet curable paint; and irradiating the ultraviolet curable paint on the printed sheet fed by selectively causing a plurality of light emitting diodes disposed at predetermined intervals across a lateral direction of the sheet to turn on in accordance with the location and size of a predetermined area of the sheet, thereby irradiating the predetermined area with ultraviolet light therefrom and curing the predetermined area.

In a double-sided color printing press, first and second color bars of a print are scanned to acquire alignment information of control patches, so that the first and second color bars are recognized whether they are printed on the first or second side of the print based on the alignment information. The alignment information of the patches acquired is compared with alignment information previously stored in a memory means so that when they are matched, information on the print quality of the patches evaluated is transmitted to the printing press in the order in which they are scanned in scanning directions, and when they are not matched, the information is transmitted to the printing press in the reversed scanning order. The amount of ink is thus controlled based on the information on the print quality in the order in which they are transmitted.

In a drying apparatus equipped with a light source to dry a drying matter of a print by irradiating light of the light source to the print, a correlation between information relating to the time for which the light source is lit and information relating to the amount of light of the light source is preset. Then, the information relating to the elapsed time for which the light source is lit during the light source is lit is detected so that light of the light source is controlled to a constant amount, regardless of the elapsed time for which the light source is lit, based on information relating to a reference amount of light, which information is obtained from the preset correlation between the information relating to the time for which the light source is lit and the information relating to the amount of light with reference to the information relating to the elapsed time at the time of the detection.

A sheet-fed printing press is provided to shorten the operation time thereof for feeding the printing plate on the plate cylinder in a printing operation without the tail edge of the printing plate clamped. For this purpose, the sheet-fed printing press is operable in the standard-sized printing plate feeding mode and the shorter-sized printing plate feeding mode. When the shorter-sized printing plate feeding mode is selected, the plate cylinder is rotated in the forward direction with the leading edge of the printing plate clamped by the first clamp device, so that the printing plate is wound around the plate cylinder. In this operation, the second clamp device is not actuated.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an irregular feeding detection device and a detection method of irregular feeding having high detection precision. The irregular feeding detection device is a device to detect irregular feeding of printing paper 10 (the printing papers overlapped partially or overlapped completely) fed to a direction shown as arrow 90 in a printing machine. An transparent light amount detector 2b carries out a plurality of detection with predetermined interval when the printing paper 10 reaches to the predetermined starting position (FIG. 5A). Thus, the amount (value) of detecting light at a plurality of the detecting places (P1, P2 and P3) can be detected. For instance, when at least two pieces of printing papers are fed into the device, irregular feeding signal are outputted since the irregularity of feeding is detected at least two detecting places. It is possible to provide a plurality of transparent light amount detectors for detecting irregular state at a plurality of detecting places.

An image adjusting device for an offset printing machine includes a drive source, an adjustment gear mounted on a rotary shaft and always engaged with a gear mounted on a blanket cylinder for adjusting a position of an image to be printed, a clutch mechanism for selectively transmitting a rotation of the drive source to the adjustment gear, and an encoder for controlling a rotational amount of the adjustment gear, the encoder being mounted on the rotary shaft. Further the image adjusting device has first and second detectors for detecting the rotational positions of the blanket cylinder and a cylinder gear, respectively, a microcomputer provided with calculating means for calculating standard and present phase differences between the blanket cylinder and the cylinder gear, and an input means for inputting an amount of adjustment on the basis of the present phase difference therebetween. Thus, it is possible to more correctly effect the image adjustment in the offset printing press.

An apparatus and method for controlling a plurality of connected continuous paper printing machines connected in series prevent difference in rotational speeds of the connected printing machines from causing the paper between the printing machines from piling up or tearing. Signal generators count the number of sheets of continuous paper entering each printing machine. The difference in the number of sheets entering each printing machine is calculated and compared to preset upper and lower limits. If an upstream printing machine turns faster than a downstream printing machine, slack will develop in the paper between the printing machines, and the difference between the sheets entering the upstream printing machine and sheets entering the downstream printing machine will be a (+) value. When a preset upper limit is reached, a controller will temporarily stop the upstream printing machine until the downstream printing machine takes up all the slack. Similarly, if the downstream printing machine turns faster than the upstream printing machine, paper between the printing machines will become taut, and the difference between sheets entering the upstream printing machine and sheets entering the downstream printing machine will be a (-) value. When a preset lower limit is reached, another controller will temporarily stop the downstream printing machine until the tautness is relieved.

Apparatus and method for controlling a plurality of continuous paper

An operation lever controller for a two-color printing apparatus having first and second units adapted to perform printing independently of each other and arranged such that all steps of respective printing operations are performed by rotating respective operation levers in multiple stages. The operation levers, ratchet wheels, set cams for changing and positioning the operation levers in respective multiple stages and arms provided with respective magnets are fixed on corresponding drive shafts of the first and second units. Pairs of feed pallets are respectively provided on unit frames so as to be linked with forward-drive solenoids, backward-drive solenoids, and pallet-drive shafts such that the respective pairs of feed pallets are disengaged and engaged with the ratchet wheels by operations of the solenoids to perform feeding operations using the pallet-drive shafts. Operation lever detecting switches are turned on by the magents at respective positions of the operation levers.
