A liquid ejecting head includes generating chambers communicating with nozzles, a manifold communicating with the pressure generating chambers, a flexible member that has a compliance region, which is able to perform deflection in response to pressure fluctuation in the manifold, a compliance space disposed on a side opposite to the manifold through the flexible member, a cap member facing the flexible member through the compliance space; a frame-like member disposed between the flexible member and the cap member, and an island-like member to be disposed in the compliance region and separated from the frame-like member. One surface of the frame-like member faces the flexible member and the other surface faces the cap member. In a direction in which the flexible member and the cap member face each other, the island-like member is thinner in thickness than the frame-like member.

A liquid ejecting head unit includes a base plate that holds a liquid ejecting head. A position determining pin is fitted into a position determining pin inserting hole in one of the liquid ejecting head and the base plate and is positioned on the other. A guide plate has a pin support hole inserted into the position determining pin. The guide plate is configured by a lowermost layer that is bonded to the other in which the position determining pin is positioned, a middle layer, and an uppermost layer. The pin support hole is configured by a first opening portion in the uppermost layer, a second opening portion in the lowermost layer, and a communication opening portion in the middle layer and allows the first and second opening portions to communicate with each other. The position determining pin is supported by the first and second opening portions.

Composite printer and scan image copying method

Image data read by an image read section and digitized is temporarily retained in an input buffer of a printer. A control section determines the contents of image processing based on print setting specified from an instruction section and controls the compression and decompression timings of the image data in response to the image processing contents. To execute enlargement processing, the image data is compressed and stored, then enlarged; to execute reduction processing, the image data is reduced, then compressed and stored, whereby the memory resources can be used effectively.

Print system

A printer, which is connected to a host computer, comprises a synchronizing signal output section for outputting a synchronizing signal to the host computer, a data detection section for detecting print data received from the host computer by using a sampling signal, and a print processing execution section for performing print processing based on the detected print data, wherein the sampling signal has a frequency higher than the synchronizing signal has. Upon detection of a change command for changing the clock rate of the synchronizing signal from the host computer, the printer may give a signal to the host computer for instructing the host computer to stop transmitting data and change the synchronizing signal into the clock rate specified in the change command. Upon completion of changing the clock rate of the synchronizing signal, the printer may output a signal to the host computer for instructing the host computer to restart transmitting data. A count value is counted by a timer in sequence and each time the expiration of the counting is reached, a data output command signal may be output to a data transmission section and data of a predetermined length may be transmitted from the data transmission section to the host computer.

Printer detecting data precisely in response to change in data transmission speed

When 31-dot space data specified in 120 dpi from a host is expanded in an image buffer in 90 dpi, a command interpretation section of a printer finds 23/90 dots and an error corresponding to 31/120 by calculation. Error correction information indicating occurrence of the error and the error amount is placed at a position in the image buffer where print data cannot exist. An engine control section of the printer controls head drive in the amount to which the shift distance as long as error correction is added based on the error correction information

High speed printer with the ability to print at different print densities

A printer driver of a host computer sends as image data a command which includes full-color RGB raster data. A printer-control-only circuit formed in the form of a hardware circuit subjects the full-color RGB raster data received from the driver to color conversion, halftoning, and interlacing, thereby converting the RGB raster data into binary CMYK raster data. The printer-control-only circuit generates a printer command including as image data the binary CMYK raster data. The printer performs printing operations on the basis of the binary CMYK raster data included in the printer command from the printer-control-only circuit. Software stored in the printer driver and the printer do not perform any color conversion, halftoning, and interlacing operations.

Data for C, M, Y and K color nozzle arrays are stored in the same memory area in an image buffer 31'. The data groups, which are to be respectively transmitted to the C, M, Y and K color nozzle arrays at a specific print timing, are stored at continuous addresses in the image buffer 31', as is shown by the shaded portion. In a transfer process, a plurality of bytes for the C, M, Y and K color nozzle arrays, which are at continuous addresses 1 to 20, are read as a data set from the image buffer 31', and at the same time are transmitted to the print head.

Code conversion tables for some major language spheres are stored in a ROM 13 in a printer. Pattern information of all kinds of characters, discriminately represented by their internal codes, are stored in a character generator 15. For code conversion tables for other language spheres than major language spheres, the definition information of each code conversion table is registered in an EEPROM 17 in the printer, from a host device. The definition information of a code conversion table may be prepared by defining the internal codes corresponding to all of the external codes. The definition information may also be prepared in such a way that a code conversion table is selected from among the code conversion tables stored in the ROM 13 and used as a base code conversion table, and only information of the code conversion table which is different from that of the base code conversion table, is defined. Before the printing operation is performed, a CPU 19 prepares a code conversion table in a RAM 7 on the basis of related definition information in the EEPROM 17. During the printing operation, the CPU 19 refers to the code conversion table in the RAM 7.
