A display panel drive apparatus which reduces noise to thereby prevent malfunction. A first switch connects based on pixel data between one of column electrodes of a display panel and a power supply line to which a pulsed supply voltage is applied. A second switch connects between the one column electrode and a ground line based on the pixel data. The first and second switches are used to apply pixel data pulses based on the pixel data to the one column electrode. In this scheme, the pixel data having a lower frequency in the vertical direction of the screen allows the second switch to send a smaller current to the ground line when compared with a case of the pixel data having a higher frequency.

Display panel drive apparatus having a noise reducing driver

A driver device for a capacitive light emitting element includes a semiconductor integrated device and an electrical charge recovery circuit. The semiconductor integrated device includes a plurality of output buffers that supply a drive data-dependent voltage to each of a plurality of capacitive light emitting elements. The semiconductor integrated device also includes a plurality of switching elements that supply a high voltage to each of the output buffers. An external terminal of the semiconductor integrated device is commonly connected to respective nodes between the switching elements and output buffers. The electrical charge recovery circuit recovers electrical charge that has accumulated in the capacitive light emitting elements. The electrical charge recovery circuit is connected to the external terminal of the semiconductor integrated device.

Device for driving capacitive light emitting element

A display panel driving method that can reduce power consumption in a sustain step is provided. Output terminals of a column electrode drive circuit connected to column electrodes of a display panel sustain a state of high impedance during the period of the sustain step. An X sustain signal is set as a bipolar pulse signal, in each half-cycle of which the commencement time of the rise of the negative pulse is set longer than the completion time of the rise of the positive pulse, and the commencement time of the fall of the positive pulse is set longer the completion time of fall of the negative pulse. Furthermore, a Y sustain signal is displaced by a half cycle from the phase of the X sustain signal. It should be noted that the polarity of these pulses may be reversed.

Display panel driving method

An apparatus for driving capacitive light emitting diodes which can be reduced in size. For supplying a capacitive light emitting diode with a driving pulse which varies the voltage with a predetermined amplitude through a driving line, the driving apparatus comprises a resonance current path including a capacitor, a first switching element for supplying the driving line with a current in accordance with charges accumulated on the capacitor when it is on, and a second switching element for grounding one electrode of the capacitor when it is on, thereby supplying the other electrode of the capacitor with a current in accordance with charges accumulated in the capacitive light emitting element through the driving line.

A device for driving capacitive light emitting elements includes a plurality of electrical charge recovery switches that send a current corresponding with an electrical charge, which has accumulated in a capacitor, individually to a plurality of drive electrodes connected to the respective capacitive light emitting elements. The electrical charge recovery switches also supply a current corresponding with the electrical charge that has accumulated in each of the capacitive light emitting elements to the capacitor individually via each of the drive electrodes. The driver device also includes a plurality of output buffers that apply a pixel-data-dependent voltage to the drive electrodes. It is determined, for each drive electrode, whether the voltage of the drive electrode has shifted from a high voltage to a low voltage or from a low voltage to a high voltage on the basis of the pixel data. If the voltage shift has occurred on the drive electrode concerned, the associated electric charge recovery switch is set to the ON state over a predetermined period. If no voltage shift has occurred, the electrical charge recovery switch is set to the OFF state.

Driver device for driving capacitive light emitting elements

A display panel driving circuit for driving a display panel, in which the electric power consumption at the time of the switching can be reduced. The display panel driving apparatus allows the use of a switching device of a low withstanding voltage. A transition voltage generating circuit for shifting a voltage of a DC power source of the driving apparatus is provided. A resonance relay circuit is provided for generating a pulse having a leading edge which rises gradually and a trailing edge which decreases gradually based on the transition voltage and supplying it as a drive pulse to the display panel. A plurality of resonance circuits for driving and exciting capacitive devices of the display panel are provided in a range of different driving potentials. The drive pulse having the leading edge which rises gradually and the trailing edge which decreases gradually is generated by switching each of the resonance circuits by the switching device to make them operative sequentially.

Display panel driving apparatus having a structure capable of reducing power loss

A display panel driving apparatus capable of displaying images of good quality with a limited dither pattern. Each of pixel cells arranged on each display line in a plurality of adjacent display lines is forced to emit light at a different luminance level based on a weighting coefficient assigned to each of the display lines, wherein a weighting coefficient is assigned to each of the display lines such that an offset of luminance difference between pixel cells arranged on each of display lines adjacent to each other is held within a predetermined range across all the adjacent display lines in the display panel.

A driving apparatus for a display panel generates a cell data comprising a bit series per each column electrode of a display panel. The cell data indicates light emitting or non-light emitting in each cell on a column electrode in accordance with a picture signal. The apparatus generates a resonating amplitude signal having a specified minimum power source voltage by a function of resonance. The apparatus generates power pulses in sequence having a period corresponding to one bit of the cell data by giving a specified maximum electrical potential during a rising period and a falling period of the resonating amplitude signal. The apparatus provided in each column electrode determines a logic level of the bit series of the cell data in order of the bit series, and supplies the power pulse to a corresponding column electrode as a driving pulse when the bit indicates the logic level of light emitting. The apparatus determines a magnitude of power during a writing period of the cell data, and varies the rising period and the falling period of the resonating amplitude signal depending on a result of the determining. The apparatus can save power consumption during a cell data writing step.

Driving apparatus for a display panel

It is an object of the present invention to provide a display panel driver with which power consumption can be reduced. The display panel driver includes a pixel data pulse generation circuit which generates pixel data pulses by connecting the column electrodes and a power source line in accordance with the pixel data to apply the pixel data pulses to the column electrodes, and a resonance pulse power circuit which generates a resonance pulse power source voltage to apply the resonance pulse power source voltage to the power source line, the resonance pulse power circuit changing the resonance amplitude of the resonance pulse power source voltage while keeping a maximum voltage of the resonance pulse power source voltage in accordance with a pattern of a pulse sequence of the pixel data pulses. A predicted power consumption of the resonance pulse power circuit is determined based on the pixel data for one field, and the pixel data pulse generation circuit is controlled so as to adjust the power consumption of the resonance pulse power circuit in accordance with the predicted power consumption.

A drive apparatus for applying first and second drive pulses to row electrodes to drive a display panel having the row electrodes, column electrodes arranged to intersect the row electrodes, and capacitive light-emitting elements each disposed at each point of intersection of the row electrodes and the column electrodes. The drive apparatus includes a clamping circuit and a masking circuit which are formed in a module.

A PDP driving apparatus having a resonance driver of a PDP electrode for shortening a time required to display an image since the power-up. A power collecting capacitor included in each electrode resonance driver is charged rapidly to a predetermined potential upon power-up of the PDP driving apparatus by allowing each electrode resonance driver to drive electrodes by means of excitation. Also, while the power collecting capacitor included in the row electrode pair driver is charged, charge driving pulses in-phase and of the same polarity are applied respectively to corresponding two electrodes to drive these electrodes by means of excitation.

Driving apparatus of display panel

A panel drive device is provided with: a shift register for sequentially storing address data according to second clock pulses; a latch circuit for latching the address data stored in the shift register; and a drive circuit for driving a display panel based on the address data output from the latch circuit. Supply of the second clock pulses to the shift register is interrupted after a regular timing for causing the latch circuit to latch predetermined address data stored in the shift register.

The present invention provides a plasma display driving method and driving device which can improve image display contrast. The method comprises an address step for shifting the discharge cells into an emission enable state when the discharge cells corresponding to each pixel of the plasma display panel are in an emission disable state, by selectively causing the discharge cells to perform a selective writing discharge in accordance with the pixel data of each pixel, based on a video signal, thus generating wall charges in the discharge cells; and, on the other hand, when the discharge cells are in an emission enable state, shifting the discharge cells into an emission disable state by selectively causing the discharge cells to perform a selective erasing discharge in accordance with the pixel data, thus erasing the wall charges in the discharge cells; and an emission sustain step for causing only those discharge cells which are in the emission enable state to emit light repeatedly.
