A yarn which is configured by using expanded graphite and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTEE) is provided while improving the yarn so that the expanded graphite functioning as a core member is not exposed and it can be simply produced. The yarn is formed by: forming a base member configured by enveloping an expanded graphite sheet member with a PTEE film, in a state where the PTEE film and the expanded graphite sheet member are aligned with each other in longitudinal direction; and twisting the base member. The base member has an approximately circular sectional shape, and is configured by enveloping the expanded graphite sheet member having a rounded sectional shape with the PTEE film which is rounded in a pipe-like shape.

Yarn

The present invention relates to a braiding yarn made of expanded graphite for a gland packing which is to be used in a shaft seal part of a fluid apparatus or the like. In the braiding yarn made of expanded graphite of the invention, a braiding yarn base material of the inner-reinforce type is used in which a plurality of reinforcing fibers are embedded in the longitudinal direction in an expanded graphite tape of a predetermined width, with forming gaps in the width direction. A twisting process is performed in a state where both the end portions in the width direction of the expanded graphite tape are bent so that both the end portions in the width direction of the expanded graphite tape are directed toward the inner side in the width direction of the base material. Alternatively, while twisting the base material both the end portions in the width direction of the expanded graphite tape are bent so that both end portions in the width direction are directed toward the inner side in the width direction. According to the invention, flaking of expanded graphite particles during a process of twisting the braiding yarn made of expanded graphite is reduced or prevented from occurring.

The present invention provides a gland packing in which a phenomenon where reinforcing fibers protruding from ends of adjacent braiding yarns overlap with each other, and the over-lapping reinforcing fibers are interposed over the whole range between expanded graphite tapes of the adjacent braiding yarns to form a leakage path can be reduced. In the gland packing , ends in the width direction of each of the braiding yarns A to H constituting the gland packing are directed to the inner side in the width direction, and the reinforcing fibers A to H protruding from the ends are confined to the inner side of the braiding yarns A to H.

Gland packing

A structure of a gland packing box is enhanced in the lubricating function and cooling function of the seal part, by forming at least one disclocating part for partly dislocating in the axial direction a gland packing of the gland packing box. The dislocating part is located on the fitting face of a gland packing holding member for fitting in the axial direction the gland packing externally mounted on a rotary shaft in the packing box. The dislocation causes part of the annular gap formed between the inside of the gland packing holding member and the outside of the rotary shaft to overlap with the internal surface of the gland packing in the circumferential direction, and forces a fluid to be sent into the inner surface of the overlapping gland packing along with rotation of the rotary shaft.
