A novel antibiotic designated BN-183B substance is disclosed which is produced by cultivating a strain of the genus Pseudomonas. The antibiotic has a strong action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

An antibiotic SF-1942 substance produced by cultivating an SF-1942 substance producing strain of the genus Streptomyces in a nutrient medium under aerobic conditions to produce and accumulate the SF-1942 substance in the nutrient medium and isolating the SF-1942 substance from the fermentation broth followed by purification and a process for the production of the antibiotic SF-1942 substance. The SF-1942 substance is effective as an antimicrobial agent and an antitumor agent against Sarcoma 180 tumor cells in mice.

New nitrosourea derivatives are provided, which possess a high inhibitory activity against the leukemia and tumors with a low toxicity and which are useful for pharmaceutical purposes. The compounds have the formula ##STR1## wherein A represents a glycosyl group, a monovalent residue of methyl glucoside or of alditol, a N-substituted carbamoyloxyalkyl group or a hydroxy-substituted cyclohexyl group when n is 1, or A represents a tetravalent residue of ribostamycin when n is 4 and R represents a lower alkyl or halo-alkyl group and are prepared by treating a compound of the formula ##STR2## with a nitrosating agent.

New antibiotics SF-1130-x.sub.1 substance and SF-1130-x.sub.2 substance are produced by cultivating a microorganism Streptomyces myxogenes SF-1130 now deposited under FERM-P. 676 and ATCC. 31305 in a liquid culture medium under aerobic conditions, and these antibiotics may be isolated from the fermentation broth and are useful as an activator for enhancing the host defense system in living animals.
