It is intended to provide a tape printer which enables to forcibly separate a platen roller and a print head along with an opening movement of a cover element in case the platen roller and the print head have adhered to each other because of a long-period storage of the tape printer with the platen roller and the print head being in contact. Accordingly, a cam pressing member and a cam receiver move a roller holder to a withdrawing position in which the platen roller and a thermal head are separated from each other when the cover element is opened, so that the cam pressing member and the cam receiver can be forcibly returned to the withdrawing position from a position in which the platen roller is in contact with the thermal head.

A roll sheet is unwound and fed with its side edge being positioned in a reference point of the thermal head, and then subjected to printing by the thermal head. Coil springs are placed at positions respectively dividing substantially equally a length from a center to each end of the thermal head. A distribution of loads on the thermal head by each coil spring is determined so that a load exerted on the thermal head on the reference point side is larger than a load exerted on the thermal head on the opposite side. A position of a resultant force of the coil springs acts on the thermal head at a position displaced by a distance obtained by multiplying an entire length of the thermal head by a coefficient, from a center of the thermal head in the longitudinal direction toward the reference point.

Printer

A web roll cassette detachably mounted in a printer. The cassette includes a lower case and an upper case having one end pivotally connected to one end of the lower case for selectively providing opening and closing states relative to the lower case. Near the pivot portion, an accommodation space is defined by the upper and lower cases for accommodating therein a web roll. Another end of the upper and lower cases serves as front end discharge portion through which a printed web sheet is discharged out of the cassette. Near the front end discharge portion, the upper and lower cases are formed with through holes where a pinch roller and a drive roller are positioned to nip the web sheet. An opening is formed upstream of the through hole, and a platen is supported on the lower case and exposed at the opening. The drive roller is movable toward and away from the front end discharge portion. After the web roll cassette is inserted into the printer, the web roll cassette is pivotally movable about a position near the one end so that the front end discharge portion is moveable toward and away from the pinch roller.

An image recording device having a detachable web roll cassette in which a rolled web sheet is accommodated. The device includes a frame body having a web roll cassette insertion port, a web roll cassette accommodating portion, and a web sheet passage extending from the web roll cassette accommodating portion in a sheet feeding direction. The device also includes a sheet feeding unit including a drive roller and a pinch roller for nipping the web sheet therebetween, and a print head for printing the image on the web sheet fed by the sheet feed unit. A pivot mechanism is provided to move the front end discharge portion of the web roll cassette toward an operating position. The pivot mechanism is also provided with the drive roller for moving the drive roller toward the sheet nipping position when the front end discharge portion is moved to the operating position. A regulation mechanism is provided to prevent the pivot mechanism from being operated if the web roll cassette is not inserted or if the web roll cassette has not moved to a predetermined position in the web roll cassette accommodating portion.

An image recording device having a detachable web roll cassette in which a rolled web sheet is accommodated. The device includes a frame body having a web roll cassette insertion port, a web roll cassette accommodating portion, and a web sheet passage extending from the web roll cassette accommodating portion in a sheet feeding direction. The device also includes a web roll cassette, a rotary cutter positioned downstream of the web roll cassette, a sheet feeding unit including a drive roller and a pinch roller for nipping the web sheet therebetween, and a print head for printing the image on the web sheet fed by the sheet feed unit. The web roll cassette includes an upper and lower cases accommodating therein a web roll at one side and defining a front end discharge portion at another side directing toward the web sheet passage. The upper and lower cases are formed with through holes at a position adjacent the front end discharge portion. The drive roller and the pinch roller are respectively positioned at the through holes.

In a serial recording mode where a carriage CA mounting a recording head HD is moved reciprocatingly in a main scanning direction of a second recording medium D2, the control apparatus drives the carriage CA to move while the recording head HD is separated from a platen P2 and the sensor SY to detect the carriage CA in order to initialize the recording apparatus. In a line recording mode where recording is performed with the recording head being in contact under pressure against a first recording medium D1, the control apparatus drives the carriage CA to move while the recording head HD is separated from a platen P1 and the sensor SY to detect the carriage CA in order to initialize the recording apparatus.

Recording apparatus

A cassette case is removably attached into a main body of a printed tape producing apparatus. The apparatus includes a print section and a platen that is pressed against or brought out of contact with the print section, and carries out printing by passing an ink ribbon and a print tape between the print section and the platen. The cassette case housing the ink ribbon is provided with a container section into which a tape case housing the print tape is removably fitted. The cassette case and the tape case are respectively provided with a guide groove having its top opened, and it is possible to easily carry the tape to the print section by pinching the tape at the opening in the guide groove.
