An over-current protection device comprises first and second electrode layers and a PTC material layer laminated therebetween. The PTC material layer comprises a polymer matrix and carbon black. The polymer matrix comprises a fluoropolymer having a melting point higher than 150&#xb0; C. The carbon black is dispersed in the polymer matrix. A resistance jump Rof the over-current protection device at 16V/50 A by 1000 cycles is 0.80-1.20. A resistance jump Rof the over-current protection device at 25V/50 A by 1000 cycles is 0.90-1.30.

Over-current protection device

The present invention provides a protection device which includes a PTC component and a first non-resettable contact component which is connected electrically in parallel to the PTC component. A second non-resettable contact component is connected electrically in series to the PTC component, and when the PTC component is tripped by a current which is diverted by opening the contact of the first non-resettable contact component, the contact of the second non-resettable contact component opens due to heat which is generated by the PTC component.

Protective device

The present invention provides an overheat protection device which is capable of effectively preventing a secondary battery from overheating. In the overheat protection device (), a variable resistive element(s) () of which resistance varies depending on a temperature is located on and thermally combined with a certain position(s) of an electrical system (), and a switching element () for controlling a current depending on an applied voltage thereto is arranged so as to control the current flowing through the electrical system (). When the certain position of the electrical system () comes to be under a high temperature condition, the variable resistive element () interrupts the current flowing through the electrical system () by changing the applied voltage to the switching element ().

Overheat protection device and electrical system having same

A circuit protection arrangement particularly useful in protecting battery assemblies. The arrangement contains a first PTC device which has a first switching temperature T, has a resistance at 20&#xb0; C. R, has a hold current at a first specified temperature I, and is made from a first PTC resistive element composed of a first conductive polymer composition attached to first and second electrodes, and a second PTC device which is electrically connected in series with the first PTC device, has a second switching temperature Twhich is less than T, has a resistance at 20&#xb0; C. Rwhich is less than R, has a hold current at the first specified temperature Iwhich is greater than I, and is made from a second PTC resistive element composed of a second conductive polymer composition attached to third and fourth electrodes. Iequals Iat a critical temperature T, such that at temperatures below T, the first PTC device switches into a high resistance state and the circuit protection arrangement is resettable, and at temperatures greater than T, the second PTC device switches into a high resistance state and initiates an action causing the circuit protection arrangement to permanently open.

Circuit protection arrangement

A PTC device formed integrally on a PCB substrate, such a PCB substrate, a secondary battery protection circuit device comprising such PCB substrate provided with a circuit to control the voltage and current of secondary batteries, and a secondary battery assembly provided with said device. A PCB substrate is provided with an electronic component and a PTC device . The PTC device has a construction having a PTC material in the center, which is provided with foils &prime; made of nickel foil on its top and bottom; an outlet electrode is provided on the foil , and an outlet electrode , provided on the PCB substrate, is soldered below.

Secondary cell protection circuit device and secondary cell assembly

An electrical device comprising a pair of electrodes, three substrates, and PTC elements inserted between the substrates, each PTC element having metal layers on both surfaces, in which each of the outer substrates has a metal layer on the inner surface, the two metal layers being electrically connected to one of the electrodes and in electrical contact with the respective metal layers of the PTC elements facing said metal layers of the outer substrates, and the center substrate has a metal layer on both surfaces, such metal layers being electrically connected to the other electrode and in electrical contact with the respective metal layers of the PTC elements facing said metal layers of the center substrate. This electrical device can increase the area of the PTC elements without increasing the projected area as a whole.

Electric assembly and device

A temperature-sensing apparatus which is placed in contact with a plurality of batteries, e.g. secondary batteries, connected in series. The temperature sensing apparatus can be connected to a power source and a current measuring device to detect increases in the temperature of the battery. Each temperature-sensing section in contact with individual secondary batteries comprises a PTC element and electrode sheets in contact with and sandwiching the PTC element on the top and bottom, the electrode sheets being in a staggered and overlapping relationship.
